Epoxy resins are two-component systems (resin + hardener) that, once mixed in the correct ratio, polymerise to form a solid, transparent material with excellent mechanical and chemical resistance. At Feroca you will find a complete selection of epoxy resins for a wide range of uses: from high-thickness pours for resin rivers and river tables through to jewellery finishes, carbon fibre or fibreglass laminates, food-safe coatings and much more.

Choosing the right resin depends on several factors: the pour depth you need, the working time available, the desired final hardness and the specific application. For deep pours of up to 12 cm in a single layer, ClearWater Deep Pour Epoxi is the most popular choice. If you are looking for a general-purpose transparent resin for jewellery and art, the ClearWater Epoxi and Epofer EX201 ranges offer crystal-clear finishes with very manageable working times. For structural fibre laminates, Epofer Laminate 401 and Epofer Carbon 402 (with UV filter) are the go-to references.

In addition to the main resins, the category includes all the accessories you need to work with epoxy safely and with confidence: paste release agents, diluent to adjust viscosity, curing accelerator, pigments and alcohol inks for colouring, polishing pastes and epoxy gel coats for surface finishes. You will also find specific kits such as the fuel tank repair kit and hand-mouldable epoxy putty.

The most common applications in this category include:

  • River tables and decorative encapsulations
  • Jewellery, costume jewellery and doming (resin dome)
  • Fibreglass and carbon fibre laminates
  • Top coats and high-transparency finishes
  • Food-contact coatings
  • Repair and sealing of fuel tanks and metal surfaces
  • Scale modelling, cosplay and special effects

Frequently asked questions about epoxy resin

How do I choose the right epoxy resin for my project?

The three key factors are:

  • Application thickness or pour depth: for thin layers, coatings, encapsulations or deep pours, there are specific formulations depending on the recommended thickness.
  • Structural or decorative application: laminates with fibreglass or carbon fibre require resins with good impregnation and high mechanical strength; other formulations are used for encapsulations, coatings or decorative pieces.
  • Available working time: this varies depending on the product and type of application. The more complex the piece or the larger the mixing volume, the more important it is to choose a resin with the right working time.

On each product's datasheet you will find the mix ratio, working time and curing time to compare before buying.

What is the difference between casting resin and laminating resin?

They are different formulations for different uses:

  • Casting resin: low viscosity, designed to be poured into moulds or onto surfaces. Allows layers from a few millimetres to several centimetres depending on the product. Ideal for encapsulations, tabletops, decorative pieces and other pouring applications.
  • Laminating resin: medium viscosity, formulated to impregnate fibreglass or carbon fibre fabrics in thin layers. Offers greater mechanical strength and is applied with a roller or brush over the reinforcement.

Using a casting resin for laminating, or vice versa, can produce incorrect results: poor fibre impregnation, excess heat or incomplete curing.

How do I mix epoxy resin so that it cures properly?

Key steps, regardless of the type:

  1. Bring the components to 20-25 °C before mixing: in cold conditions viscosity rises and the hardener does not react correctly.
  2. Follow the weight ratio stated on the product: an incorrect ratio leaves soft or uncured areas.
  3. Mix slowly for 2-3 minutes, scraping the sides and bottom of the container thoroughly.
  4. Apply before the stated working time has elapsed.

If bubbles appear on the surface, you can remove them by briefly passing a heat gun gently a few centimetres away just after pouring.

How long does epoxy resin take to cure?

It depends on the type and the ambient temperature. As a reference at 20-25 °C, working times range from 15 to 90 minutes and full curing times from 6 to 48 hours. Below 20 °C curing slows down considerably. Even if the piece feels solid to the touch before that time, always wait several days before machining it or subjecting it to load, as internal curing may not have finished.

Can epoxy resin be pigmented?

Many epoxy resins are compatible with alcohol inks, powder pigments and resin-specific dyes. The pigment is usually added to part A before mixing with the hardener, at a typical dose of 1-5% by weight of the total. Exceeding that percentage can interfere with curing. For effects with inclusions, you can also add crushed glass or glass beads directly to the pour.

Is epoxy resin safe?

In liquid state the components are irritants: use nitrile gloves, safety goggles and work in a well-ventilated space during mixing and pouring. Once fully cured, the resin is inert. Some formulations are certified for food contact once cured, but this varies by product. Check the technical datasheet or the SDS for the specific product before using it for that purpose.
