What it is used for
This sheet is designed for any professional who needs to simulate bruising quickly and convincingly. The 21 small designs cover everything from fresh impact marks to bruises in the resolution phase, allowing you to build complete visual narratives without mixing colours from scratch.
- Special effects (FX) makeup on film, TV and short film sets
- Character makeup for theatre, live performances and opera
- Editorial and artistic photo shoots
- Trauma simulations for medical training, first aid and healthcare education
- School projects and SFX character makeup courses
- Low-budget productions requiring fast, professional results
How to use it
- Remove the top protective film from the sheet and cut out the bruise you need using scissors or a precision scalpel, leaving as little border as possible around the design.
- Make sure the skin area is clean, dry, hair-free and completely free of grease or moisturiser.
- Place the cut-out tattoo with the printed side face down on the skin, in the exact position you want.
- Generously moisten the paper with water using a damp sponge or fine water spray, covering the entire surface of the tattoo.
- Hold pressure for 45-60 seconds without moving the paper.
- Carefully slide the paper off to one side. If the transfer has not come off cleanly, re-moisten and wait a few more seconds before trying again.
- Allow to dry completely before applying any product on top (setting powder, makeup, latex, etc.).
- To remove the tattoo, apply a transfer remover, isopropyl myristate (PTM) or an equivalent product with a gauze pad and rub gently until the pigment dissolves.
Tips for use
Adjust colour with makeup palettes
Transfers provide a very solid colour base, but on very light or very dark skin it may be necessary to soften the edges or adjust the chromatic transition. The Skin Illustrator Flesh Tone and Dark Fleshtone Palette are ideal for blending the perimeter of the bruise and achieving perfect integration with the surrounding skin.
Layer for greater depth
If you need a more voluminous bruise or one with greater three-dimensional presence, combine the transfer with small amounts of PTM Clear applied around the edge. This creates a depth and contained oedema effect without the need for additional prosthetics. You can also overlap two transfers from the same sheet to intensify the colour in the central impact area.
Temperature and environmental conditions
In very dry environments or with heavy heating, the paper dries before the transfer has fully migrated. Use more water than you think you need and work quickly. Outdoors in windy conditions, shield the working area while waiting the 45-60 seconds. If the actor is sweating heavily, apply a light setting powder before placing the transfer to create a more stable base.
Frequently asked questions
How long does this type of temporary tattoo last on skin?
It depends on skin type, sweating and friction. Under normal filming or stage conditions, TATÚ FX Aged Bruises Small maintains its colour and definition for several hours. To extend durability, apply a setting powder or makeup sealer over the transfer once it is completely dry. In action scenes or with heavy sweating, it is advisable to have several cut-outs ready for quick touch-ups.
Is it safe to apply the transfer directly onto skin without prior preparation?
Yes, as long as the skin is clean and free from prior irritation. It is not recommended for use on sensitive skin with active eczema or on open wounds. For reactive skin types, perform a patch test on a discreet area (inner forearm) at least 20 minutes before the final application.
Can I apply it over foundation makeup?
It is not ideal. Wet transfer tattoos need to adhere directly to skin to ensure good pigment transfer. If foundation has already been applied, remove the excess in the area where the transfer will go using a tissue or gentle cleanser, leaving the skin as clean as possible before proceeding.
How is the transfer removed at the end of the shoot?
The most effective method is to use a dedicated transfer remover, isopropyl myristate (PTM Light Flesh), PTM Clear or another skin-safe pigment solvent. Apply the product with a gauze pad or cotton round, leave it to work for a few seconds and rub gently. For more heavily pigmented areas, the process may need to be repeated twice. Avoid aggressive rubbing on sensitive skin.
Is it compatible with latex and silicone prosthetics?
Yes, the transfer can be applied to skin and the edges then integrated with adhesive prosthetics or latex applications around it. The key is to respect the order: apply and dry the transfer first, then work the edge materials afterwards. If you need to apply the transfer over a silicone or foam latex prosthetic already in place, use more water and increase the waiting time, as absorption differs from bare skin.
Is the "small" size suitable for bruises on the face?
Yes. The 21 small bruises on this sheet are designed precisely for detail areas: cheekbones, jaw, forehead, knuckles, wrists or any area where a large bruise would look disproportionate. If you need to cover larger areas such as the torso or back, you can combine several transfers from the same sheet or overlap designs to create a bruise of greater coverage.
Can I cut the designs into custom shapes?
Yes. The sheet can be cut freely before application. Trimming away as much excess paper as possible around the design improves edge invisibility and aids integration. Use fine-tipped scissors or a scalpel for more precise edges, especially in facial areas where the transfer boundary is more noticeable.
Does it work the same on very fair skin as on dark skin?
The tonal range of TATÚ FX Aged Bruises Small is optimised for dark and medium skin tones, so on very fair skin the tones may appear more saturated than expected. In that case, apply the Skin Illustrator Flesh Tone Palette or the Complexion Palette to tone down the colour and soften the transfer edges, integrating them with the skin.
