PTM Light Flesh is a high-quality prosthetic transfer material formulated by Christien Tinsley, the original creator of the PTM process. Its light flesh tone blends naturally with most Caucasian skin tones straight from the bottle, reducing the need for additional paint. It is the most natural alternative to the standard Pink 5 shade: neither too pink nor too translucent.

What it is used for

PTM Light Flesh is designed for the immediate creation of high-quality prosthetic transfers in makeup special effects. Its light flesh tone makes it the preferred choice when working with Caucasian skin tones, minimising painting time and subsequent touch-ups.

  • Creating Bondo Transfers straight from the bottle
  • Making Pro-Bondo Transfers for complex prosthetic effects
  • Producing high-definition Pros Aide Transfers
  • Character makeup for film, television and theatre
  • Special effects for wounds, scars and surface prosthetics
  • Forensic and educational character applications
  • Work requiring a base tone compatible with light skin without coverage paint

How to use it

  1. Prepare the surface to be transferred: make sure the skin is clean, dry and free of oils.
  2. Apply PTM Light Flesh onto the specific transfer paper in thin, even layers.
  3. Allow to dry completely between layers. For thicker, more durable transfers, apply multiple layers, letting each one dry fully.
  4. Once the final layer is dry, cut the transfer to the desired shape.
  5. Apply the appropriate adhesive (Pros Aide or another SFX-grade medical adhesive) onto the skin or onto the transfer itself, depending on the chosen technique.
  6. Position the transfer over the area and press gently to ensure adhesion.
  7. Carefully remove the backing paper.
  8. Seal and paint if necessary. With PTM Light Flesh, the need for coverage paint on Caucasian skin is minimal.

Usage tips

Number of layers and thickness

The number of layers you apply will determine the opacity and durability of the transfer. For subtle surface effects (wrinkles, skin textures), two or three layers are sufficient. For more structured or raised prosthetics, increase the number of layers and allow thorough drying between each one. Incomplete drying between layers can cause bubbles or irregularities in the finish.

Integration with skin tone

The main advantage of Light Flesh over other shades is its direct compatibility with light or medium Caucasian skin. If you are working with darker skin tones, consider mixing PTM Light Flesh with PTM Clear to reduce opacity, or with PTM Pink 5 to achieve pinker tones. Direct mixing between PTM shades is possible and allows you to customise the result without compromising material quality.

Storage and handling

Store the bottle tightly closed in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Shake gently before use to homogenise the pigment. If the material thickens over time, consult Feroca for the recommended thinning options for this type of material. Avoid contaminating the bottle with dirty tools: always use clean brushes or spatulas to extract the product.

Frequently asked questions

What type of work is this material intended for?

PTM Light Flesh is intended for the creation of prosthetic transfers in makeup special effects: wounds, scars, wrinkles, skin textures and any prosthetic effect applied via transfer. It is especially useful on film and television shoots where quick application and natural results on light skin tones are required.

What paper should I use to make the transfers?

For best results, use the specific Neill's Materials transfer paper, designed to work with PTM materials. Using an unsuitable paper may make it difficult to release the transfer or compromise its integrity.

Can it be mixed with other PTM shades?

Yes. PTM Light Flesh is compatible with other shades in the range, such as PTM Clear (to reduce opacity) or PTM Pink 5 (to add a pink tone). Direct mixing between bottles allows you to adjust the base colour to the exact needs of the job without altering the material's properties.

How many layers should be applied for a good transfer?

It depends on the desired effect. For thin transfers with subtle texture, two or three well-dried layers are sufficient. For prosthetics with more body and durability, it is recommended to apply between five and eight layers, allowing each one to dry completely before applying the next. The key is patience during drying: do not rush the process.

What adhesive should I use to attach the transfer to the skin?

PTM transfers are compatible with SFX-grade medical adhesives commonly used in professional character work, such as Pros Aide. The adhesive can be applied to the skin or to the transfer itself depending on the technique. Consult your supplier or the Feroca team if you have any doubts about compatibility with the adhesive you normally use.

Do I need to paint the transfer after applying it?

With PTM Light Flesh, the need for subsequent painting is minimal in many cases when working on light or medium Caucasian skin. Its shade is formulated to blend directly, saving time on set. If the work requires greater definition or a different tone, you can apply compatible makeup paints over the already-adhered transfer.

Is it safe for use on skin?

PTM Light Flesh is formulated for use in special effects makeup, in contact with skin. However, as with any character material, a patch test is recommended on sensitive skin beforehand, and it should not be applied over open wounds or irritated skin. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and professional usage guidelines.

What is the difference between Light Flesh and Pink 5?

PTM Pink 5 is the standard shade in the PTM range, with a pinker finish. PTM Light Flesh was developed as a more neutral and natural alternative, with greater direct compatibility on Caucasian skin without the need for additional paint. Light Flesh is neither too pink nor too translucent, making it the usual choice when seeking the most realistic effect with the least touch-up.
