- Television productions and short films
- Editorial and conceptual fashion photography sessions
- Medical simulations and training (first aid, emergency medicine, nursing)
- Forensic and crime scenes for training or fiction
- Halloween shows, LARP and themed events
How to use it
- Remove the top protective film from the sheet.
- Cut out the desired bruise with scissors, adjusting the shape if necessary.
- Make sure the skin area to be treated is dry, clean, hair-free and free from greasy products (creams, oils or silicone-based foundations).
- Place the tattoo face down (printed side down) on the skin.
- Generously wet the back of the paper with water, using a damp sponge or a spray.
- Hold pressure for 45-60 seconds without moving the paper.
- Carefully remove the paper by sliding it to one side. If the transfer is not complete, re-wet and wait a few more seconds.
- Allow to dry completely before applying any product on top (setting powder, foundations, etc.).
- To remove the tattoo, use an oil-based solvent or PTM Clear applied gently.
Usage tips
Skin preparation
Adhesion and transfer quality depend greatly on the condition of the skin. Avoid applying the tattoo over areas with prominent hair, very dry skin or with residue from greasy cosmetics. If the skin is very oily, clean the area with isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry before applying the transfer. On dry skin, do not apply moisturiser beforehand; do so afterwards, once the tattoo is set.
Integration with base makeup
For dark skin tones, colour integration is key. Once the tattoo has been applied and dried, you can blend the edges with a Skin Illustrator Dark Fleshtone Palette to blend it with the actor's or model's skin tone. You can also layer very thin glazes with the Skin Illustrator Complexion Palette to add depth and make the bruise more convincing on camera. Always set with translucent powder to prevent shifting during filming.
Storage and preservation
Store the sheet in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Ambient humidity can degrade the transfer adhesive layer over time. If you are not going to use the full sheet in a single session, replace the protective film or store it in an airtight zip bag. Do not fold the tattoos or subject them to pressure before use.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a transfer tattoo last on skin?
Under normal filming or performance conditions, TATÚ FX Fresh Bruises Dark Skin holds up for several hours without visible deterioration. Duration depends on sweat, friction and products applied on top. With a layer of setting powder over it, resistance increases considerably. For long days of more than eight hours, check the edges between takes and touch up as needed.
Can it be used on articulated areas or areas with a lot of movement?
It can be applied over areas with some movement, but on high-mobility joints (elbow, knee, knuckles) the tattoo will tend to crack sooner. In these cases, apply the tattoo with the joint in a semi-flexed position to reduce transfer tension. After applying it, avoid bending the area abruptly until it is completely dry.
Is it compatible with liquid or cream makeup foundations?
Yes, but respect the application order. The transfer must always be placed on clean skin or on a foundation that is already completely dry and set with powder. Applying the tattoo over a fresh or greasy foundation will prevent a good transfer. Once the tattoo is dry, you can work over it with water-based or alcohol-based foundations such as those from the Skin Illustrator Flesh Tone Palette.
How is it removed without damaging the skin?
Water transfer tattoos are easily removed with oil-based solvents applied with a gauze pad or cotton. Another option is to use PTM Clear, which lifts the transfer gently without irritating the skin. Avoid rubbing hard; let the solvent work for a few seconds and the tattoo will come off on its own.
Does it work equally well on all dark skin tones?
The Fresh Bruises Dark Skin colour range is calibrated for medium and dark skin tones, ensuring better integration in those shades compared to generic versions. For very light tones, the Fresh Bruises version for light skin exists. If you need to adjust the colour reading on camera, you can modify it with the Skin Illustrator Dark Fleshtone Palette.
Can the design be cut or modified?
Yes. You can freely cut each design to adapt it to the anatomical area or required size. You can also combine fragments from different bruises on the same sheet to create more complex or irregular effects. Use fine-tipped scissors for more precise cuts at the edges.
Is it suitable for sensitive or allergy-prone skin?
The product is formulated for professional use on skin. If the actor or model has a history of hypersensitivity to transfer pigments, always perform a patch test on a small area (inner forearm) and wait at least 20 minutes before applying it to larger or more visible areas.
Can it be used alongside silicone or latex prosthetics?
Yes. The tattoo can be applied to the skin adjacent to a prosthetic to visually integrate the effect and make the transition more convincing. If you need to apply it directly onto a silicone prosthetic, the transfer adhesive may not adhere as well as on skin; in that case, it is preferable to paint the bruise directly onto the prosthetic with alcohol-based makeup palettes. You can use the Neills transfer paper to create custom transfers on prosthetics.
