What it's used for
These transfers are designed for any production that needs to simulate severe burns quickly, cleanly and with professional results. Their design allows multiple pieces to be combined to cover larger areas or increase the dramatic impact of the scene.
- Character makeup for film and television series
- Theatre, opera and live performances
- Haunted attractions and immersive experiences
- Victim simulation for medical and paramedic training
- Photographers specialising in conceptual or horror editorial work
- Cosplay and fantasy and science fiction conventions
- Music video production and advertising campaigns with dramatic themes
How to use it
- Clean and thoroughly dry the skin area where you are going to apply the transfer. Remove any traces of cream, oil or sweat.
- Cut out the piece you are going to use if you want to isolate it from the rest of the sheet.
- Place the transfer with the printed side face down onto the skin.
- Press with a damp sponge or cloth for 20–30 seconds, making sure to moisten the entire surface evenly.
- Carefully peel off the paper from one corner. The design remains adhered to the skin.
- Allow a few seconds to dry before touching or applying makeup on top.
- If you need to cover a larger area, overlap several pieces from the sheet, aligning the edges naturally.
- To remove, use plenty of water or a gentle makeup remover.
Tips for use
Integration with special effects makeup
The transfer alone already delivers a convincing result, but if you want to perfect the integration with the actor's skin tone, you can use a flesh tone palette or a complexion palette to blend the edges of the transfer and create a smooth transition with the surrounding skin. For darker skin tones, the Dark Fleshtone palette allows you to adapt the effect with precision. Apply with a fine brush using outward blending strokes from the edge of the transfer.
Orientation and mirror image
Remember that the design is reversed when transferred. If the burn appears in a specific orientation on the sheet, it will appear mirrored on the skin. Plan this before cutting and positioning each piece, especially if you need the effect to sit on a specific side of the body or near a visible anatomical reference point.
Combining with PTM transfers for added volume
To add three-dimensional texture or relief to the area — such as blisters or necrotic tissue — you can combine the transfer with PTM Light Flesh or PTM Clear applied around or partially on top of the dried transfer. This elevates the effect from a flat burn to a wound with real volume. Also check out the Neills A4 transfer paper if you need to create your own custom designs to complement this sheet.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the transfer last once applied to the skin?
Under normal conditions, TATÚ FX 3rd Yellow Burns lasts several hours without peeling off. Duration depends on the level of perspiration, movement of the area and whether it is applied to clean, dry skin. For long productions, avoid applying creams or greasy bases directly under the transfer and do not rub the area with water during filming.
Can makeup be applied on top of the transfer once it has been applied?
Yes. Once dry, it accepts makeup on top using alcohol-based products such as those from the Skin Illustrator range. Avoid products with a water or oil base in excess, as these can lift the transfer prematurely. Apply with a clean brush or sponge using the minimum pressure necessary.
Is it suitable for all skin types?
TATÚ FX 3rd Yellow Burns is optimised for light to medium skin tones. On very dark skin, the chromatic contrast of the design may appear less convincing. In that case, complement with appropriately toned makeup to adjust the integration. Not recommended for use on irritated skin, open wounds or active eczema.
Can the transfer be reused once removed?
No. Transfers of this type are single use. Once moistened and applied to the skin, they cannot be reused. The A5 sheet includes 7 pieces, so you can save any unused ones for other sessions as long as the paper has not been moistened.
How is the transfer removed at the end?
Apply plenty of warm water to the area and gently rub with a damp cloth. You can also use a mild oil-free makeup remover. The transfer comes away without leaving residue on most skin types. Avoid rubbing dry to prevent skin irritation.
Can several pieces from the same sheet be overlapped?
Yes, and this is one of the advantages of this format. You can combine several of the 7 included pieces to create more extensive burns or cover a larger affected area. Align the edges organically and blend the join with makeup for a more natural result.
Is it suitable for medical training or simulation exercises?
Yes. The level of realism of TATÚ FX 3rd Yellow Burns makes it suitable for emergency drills, triage exercises and victim care training. Its quick application with no special equipment makes it a practical option compared to more complex prosthetics when characterisation time is limited.
Do I need any additional materials to apply it?
You only need water and a cloth or sponge. No adhesives, activators or special tools are required. If you want to perfect the result and integrate it better with the actor's skin, a special effects makeup palette and a fine brush are sufficient to complete the effect professionally.
