What it is used for

TATÚ FX Fresh Bruises is designed for any professional or student who needs to simulate blunt force injuries quickly and convincingly. The 9 designs cover everything from a fresh blow to a bruise in the resolution phase, allowing you to visually narrate the passage of time without having to build the effect from scratch with makeup.

  • Special effects (FX) makeup for film shoots, photo sessions and music videos
  • Character makeup for theatre, opera and live performances
  • Film, TV and low-budget short film productions with limited set time
  • Medical and healthcare training simulations (first aid, triage, emergency training)
  • Practice and exams at makeup and character design schools
  • Social media content, cosplay and historical reenactment

How to use it

  1. Make sure the skin area is clean, dry, hair-free and free of oils or creams. Any greasy barrier reduces adhesion.
  2. Remove the top protective film from the sheet and cut out the design you want to apply, leaving as little border as possible around the tattoo.
  3. Place the cut-out tattoo printed side down on the skin, in the exact position where you want the effect.
  4. Generously moisten the back of the paper with water, covering it completely. Use a damp sponge or soaked kitchen paper.
  5. Hold gentle pressure for 45-60 seconds without moving the paper.
  6. Carefully remove the paper by sliding it in a single direction. If the design has not fully transferred, re-moisten and wait a few more seconds.
  7. Allow the tattoo to air dry for 1-2 minutes before touching or applying makeup on top.
  8. If you need to blend the edges or adjust the tone, you can work on top with the Skin Illustrator Flesh Tone Palette or the Skin Illustrator Complexion Palette.
  9. To remove the tattoo, apply isopropyl myristate or a specific transfer solvent and gently remove with a gauze pad or cotton wool.

Usage tips

Skin preparation: the step that most influences the result

Oily skin or skin with traces of moisturiser is the main reason a tattoo does not transfer well or lifts within a few hours. Clean the area with micellar water or pharmacy alcohol and allow it to dry completely before applying. On articulated areas such as elbows or knees, stretch the skin when applying to avoid wrinkles in the design.

Integration with makeup: how to make it invisible

The edge of the tattoo can give away the trick if not worked properly. Once dry, blend the perimeter with a fine brush using complementary colours from a skin tone palette. The Skin Illustrator Flesh Tone Palette is especially useful for softening the edge and adding texture. For darker skin tones, the Skin Illustrator Dark Fleshtone Palette offers the right range.

Combining with PTM for three-dimensional effects

If the project requires more volume or you want to add a prosthetic on top of the bruise (swelling, overlaid cut), you can combine the tattoo with transfer materials such as PTM Light Flesh or PTM Clear. Apply the tattoo first, let it dry, and build the 3D effect on top. You can also create your own custom transfers with the tattoo and PTM transfer paper.

Frequently asked questions

How long does this type of temporary tattoo last on the skin?

Under normal conditions, without rubbing or water exposure, TATÚ FX Fresh Bruises can remain in good condition for between 4 and 8 hours. On a film set, with sweat or continuous contact with clothing, it is advisable to seal it with a makeup setting spray or translucent powder to extend its durability.

Can this tattoo be applied over foundation makeup?

It is not recommended. Foundation and creams create a greasy barrier that prevents proper adhesion of the transfer. Always apply on clean, dry skin, and add integration makeup once the tattoo has been completely transferred and dried.

Does it work the same on all skin types?

TATÚ FX Fresh Bruises is calibrated for fair to medium skin tones. On darker skin tones, the reddish and purplish hues may lose contrast and appear less visible. For darker skin, it is preferable to reinforce the effect with highly pigmented makeup such as the Skin Illustrator Dark Fleshtone Palette.

How do you remove it correctly without irritating the skin?

The most effective and least aggressive method is isopropyl myristate, which dissolves the transfer without the need for rubbing. Pharmacy isopropyl alcohol also works, although it is somewhat drying. Apply with a gauze pad, leave to act for a few seconds and remove with gentle movements. Avoid dry rubbing, as it can irritate the skin.

Can the design be trimmed to fit small areas?

Yes. You can cut out each design individually with fine-tipped scissors to fit it to the application area. This also allows you to combine several designs in the same area to build more complex or progressive effects.

Is it suitable for use on children or sensitive skin?

TATÚ FX Fresh Bruises is a professional product intended for on-set use. Before applying it on sensitive skin or on minors, always perform a patch test on a small area of the forearm and wait at least 15 minutes to check there is no reaction. If in doubt, consult the manufacturer's TECHNICAL DATA SHEET.

Can this tattoo be used on areas with hair?

Hair greatly hinders the transfer and ruins the result. For a clean application, the area must be shaved or naturally hairless. If it is not possible to remove the hair, it is preferable to opt for direct palette makeup techniques.

Can I print my own designs in the same format?

Yes. If you need custom designs or larger quantities, the Neills tattoo and PTM transfer paper allows you to print your own designs in A4 format and apply them using the same wet transfer method.
