What it is used for

This mould is designed for creating decorative and functional pieces in acrylic resins. It is particularly well suited for resin art projects, decorative crafts and small-batch production of home objects with a professional finish.

  • Decorative plates and trays in acrylic resin with pigments and fillers
  • Reproductions with marble, terrazzo or stone effects using veining techniques
  • Home décor pieces in short runs or one-off productions
  • Artistic projects with resin, inks and powder pigments
  • Prototypes and product samples for interior design

How to use it

  1. Place the mould on a level, stable surface before pouring.
  2. Prepare the acrylic resin following the proportions indicated by the material manufacturer.
  3. If you want a colour effect, add pigments or fillers to the mix before pouring.
  4. Pour the mixture slowly into the mould, avoiding the formation of bubbles.
  5. Allow to cure for the time indicated by the resin used without moving the mould.
  6. Once the piece has cured, gently flex the mould and carefully remove the piece.
  7. Clean the mould with water and mild soap or a dry cloth before storing.
Important — Platinum silicone inhibition: This mould is made from platinum silicone (addition cure). Do not allow the mould to come into contact with sulphur-containing plasticines, latex, uncured polyester resins, cyanoacrylate adhesives or latex gloves. These materials can inhibit the cure of future pieces or damage the mould surface. If you have any doubts about compatibility, always carry out a test on a small area first.

Usage tips

Level carefully before pouring

Acrylic resin is a self-levelling material. If the mould is not perfectly horizontal, the thickness of the resulting piece will be uneven. Use a spirit level before pouring and, if necessary, shim the mould with small wedges.

Work effects before gelation

If you want to create veining or colour separation effects (marble, water, cement effect), work the mixture inside the mould right after pouring, while the resin is still fluid. Once gelation begins, any manipulation will ruin the effect.

Demoulding and mould care

Platinum silicone usually does not require a release agent, but if you are producing long runs or using resins with abrasive fillers, a light application of release agent will extend the mould's service life. Store it away from direct sunlight, without heavy objects stacked on top, to maintain its original shape.

Frequently asked questions

What resins can be used with this type of mould?

This mould is primarily compatible with acrylic resins such as Acrystal Prima + Basic Crystal or Jesmonite AC100. These water-based resins do not generate excessive exothermic heat or attack the silicone, ensuring a long mould life.

Do I need to apply a release agent before using the mould?

Generally not, as platinum silicone has natural non-stick properties against acrylic resins. For series production or with resins that include mineral fillers, you can apply a thin coat of Ferosil V 32 to protect the mould surface.

How many castings can a platinum silicone mould withstand?

Durability depends on the cast material and maintenance. With acrylic resins and correct use, a platinum silicone mould can yield dozens or even hundreds of reproductions without loss of detail. Avoiding contact with inhibiting materials and storing it correctly are the key factors in extending its service life.

Can I use pigments and fillers directly in the resin?

Yes. Acrylic resins accept powder pigments, oxides, mineral fillers and effect additives. Mix the pigments with the resin liquid before adding the base powder to achieve a uniform dispersion. With Jesmonite AC730 you can achieve very realistic cement or stone textures and finishes.

How do I avoid bubbles in the finished piece?

Mix the resin slowly and steadily, avoiding movements that incorporate air. Pour in a thin stream from a certain height so that bubbles escape before the material gels. If your process allows it, a vacuum chamber before pouring eliminates practically all bubbles from inside the mix.

Can I use this mould for plaster or cement?

Yes, platinum silicone is compatible with plaster, gypsum and conventional cement mortars. For high-performance acrylic cements such as Jesmonite AC730, the mould works equally well. Apply a thin coat of release agent paste to ease demoulding with cement-based materials.

How should I clean and store the mould?

After each use, clean the mould with water and mild soap or simply with a damp cloth if there are no adhered residues. Do not use aggressive solvents (acetone, MEK) or sharp objects to remove residues. Store it flat, away from heat sources and direct light, with no objects on top that could deform it.

What should I do if the resin does not demould easily?

Gently flex the mould from the edges towards the centre to progressively release the piece. If adhesion persists, apply Ferosil V 32 in subsequent castings. Forced demoulding can damage both the piece and the mould.
