What it is used for

This spray varnish is designed for the final finishing of pieces made with acrylic resins. It protects the surface from moisture, dust and surface wear, maintaining a natural matte look. It is especially useful when you want to preserve rough textures or stone and concrete effects without adding gloss.

  • Final sealing of decorative pieces in Jesmonite or Acrystal
  • Protection of surfaces with concrete, stone or plaster effect
  • Uniform matte finish on pigmented pieces
  • Protection of plant pots, vases, trays and interior décor
  • Sealing of porous textures before handling or display
  • Finishing of small-format series production pieces

How to use it

  1. Make sure the piece is fully cured and dry. For Jesmonite AC100, wait at least 24 hours after casting; for Acrystal, follow the product instructions.
  2. Clean the surface of dust, release agent residues or dirt with a dry or slightly damp cloth. If you used release wax, remove any visible excess.
  3. Shake the spray vigorously for at least 1 minute before use.
  4. Place the piece on a stable, well-ventilated surface, preferably on protective paper or cardboard.
  5. Apply the spray at a distance of 20–25 cm from the surface, using smooth, continuous movements without stopping at any one point.
  6. Apply a first thin coat and allow to dry for 10–15 minutes.
  7. If greater protection or uniformity is needed, apply a second thin coat once the first is dry.
  8. Allow to dry completely before handling or displaying the piece.

Usage tips

Application distance and temperature

Always apply at room temperature (between 15 and 25 °C). Below 10 °C the spray may atomise poorly and produce a grainy finish. Maintain the 20–25 cm distance: too close causes build-up, and too far away leaves a dry powdery coat that does not adhere well.

Thin coats vs. a single thick coat

It is preferable to apply two thin coats rather than one thick coat. An excessive coat can result in a satin appearance or run marks, especially on pieces with deep relief or textures. Always wait until the previous coat is touch-dry before applying the next one.

Ventilation and personal protection

Work in a well-ventilated space or outdoors. Use a respirator with an organic vapour filter, gloves and safety goggles. Avoid inhaling the aerosol and keep away from heat sources or flames during and after application.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this spray varnish on non-acrylic resins?

Creaspray Matt is formulated specifically for acrylic resins such as Jesmonite and Acrystal. Its use on epoxy, polyurethane or polyester resins is not guaranteed and may produce variable results in adhesion and finish. For those resin families, please consult the specific varnishes and finishes in the Feroca catalogue.

How many coats should I apply for good protection?

For indoor decorative use, one or two thin coats is sufficient. If the piece will be subject to more handling or occasional moisture exposure (plant pots, trays), apply two coats allowing each to dry thoroughly. Avoid more than two coats to prevent altering the matte finish.

Does this varnish protect against outdoor humidity or rain?

Creaspray Matt is intended for indoor or decorative use pieces. It provides basic resistance to occasional moisture, but is not designed as protection for outdoor use with continuous exposure to rain or UV rays. For outdoor use, consult Feroca for higher-resistance varnish options.

How long should I wait between applying the varnish and using the piece?

Touch-dry time is typically 10–15 minutes between coats. For normal handling and use of the piece, it is recommended to wait at least 1–2 hours after the final coat. In conditions of low temperature or high ambient humidity, this time may be longer.

Does the varnish change the colour or tone of the piece?

The matte finish of Creaspray Matt minimises darkening of the tone, but like any varnish it may produce a slight colour intensification, particularly on pigmented pieces. It is recommended to test on a small area or a test piece before applying to the final piece.

Is it necessary to sand or prepare the surface before varnishing?

Sanding is not necessary if the surface is clean and free of dust or release agent residues. If the piece has imperfections you want to correct before the final finish, you can sand lightly with fine-grit paper and clean thoroughly before applying the varnish.

Can I apply this varnish on pigmented pieces or pieces with a metallic effect?

Yes, Creaspray Matt is compatible with pigmented Jesmonite or Acrystal pieces. For pieces with metallic effects or special fillers, always carry out a prior test, as some fillers may interact with the varnish and alter the final appearance.

Does it work well on rough or highly porous textured surfaces?

Yes, the spray format facilitates uniform penetration into rough or porous textures where a liquid varnish applied with a brush could accumulate in recesses or leave brush marks. Apply thin coats to prevent the varnish from pooling in the deepest areas of the texture.
