What it's used for

This varnish is designed to protect and enhance pieces made with acrylic resins, providing a glossy surface finish that brings out colours and unifies texture. It is the ideal final step in any production process using Jesmonite AC100 or Acrystal Prima.

  • Gloss finish on decorative Jesmonite pieces: vases, planters, figures and interior design objects
  • Surface protection for sculptures and replicas made with acrylic resins
  • Sealing and gloss on FX pieces and props
  • Finishing of prototypes and models with an acrylic base
  • Rejuvenation of aged or display pieces
  • Unified finish after painting or pigmenting the piece

How to use it

  1. Make sure the acrylic resin piece is fully cured and dry. Any residual moisture can cause cloudiness in the finish.
  2. Clean the surface of dust and grease with a clean, dry cloth before applying the varnish.
  3. Shake the can vigorously for at least 1–2 minutes before use.
  4. Apply in a well-ventilated environment, at room temperature (between 15 °C and 25 °C) and with moderate humidity.
  5. Hold the spray 20–30 cm from the piece and apply in short, even strokes without stopping the movement to avoid build-up.
  6. Apply a first thin coat and allow to dry for approximately 10–15 minutes.
  7. If you want greater gloss depth, apply a second light coat once the first is dry.
  8. Leave the piece flat until the varnish is completely dry before handling it.

Usage tips

Environmental conditions

Temperature and humidity directly affect the result. Avoid applying the varnish in very humid environments or at temperatures below 15 °C: the finish may turn whitish or matte instead of gloss. If working indoors, ensure good ventilation so that the aerosol solvents dissipate properly.

Thin coats are better than one thick coat

It is better to apply two thin coats than a single thick one. Excessive application in one pass can cause runs or bubbles that ruin the finish. Between coats, respect the indicated drying time before reapplying.

Compatibility and prior testing

Although this varnish is formulated for acrylic resins, if you have applied additional paints or pigments to the piece, always carry out a test on an inconspicuous area before varnishing the entire surface. Some decorative finishes may react unexpectedly with the aerosol. Note that this varnish is not suitable for epoxy, polyester or polyurethane resins.

Frequently asked questions

How many coats of gloss varnish does a piece need for a professional finish?

In most cases, two coats of Creaspray Gloss Varnish are sufficient to achieve a uniform and durable gloss finish. The first coat acts as a sealing base and the second adds depth and gloss. Always apply thin coats and allow them to dry properly between applications.

Can this varnish be used on pieces painted with acrylics?

Yes, Creaspray Gloss Varnish is generally compatible with acrylic paints applied over acrylic resins. However, it is always recommended to test on a small area before varnishing the entire piece, especially if third-party pigments or paints have been used.

Why has the finish turned whitish or cloudy?

A whitish finish (blush effect) is usually caused by excess ambient humidity during application, by spraying too close to the piece, or by applying it to a surface that was not yet completely dry. Make sure you work in dry conditions, at the right temperature, and with the piece fully cured before varnishing.

Does this varnish protect the piece from outdoor conditions or moisture?

Creaspray Gloss Varnish provides a surface protection layer that improves resistance to handling and dust, and lightly seals the porous surface of resins such as Jesmonite. For pieces exposed to intense moisture or continuous outdoor use, consult Feroca about more robust protection solutions.

Is it compatible with all types of resins?

No. Creaspray Gloss Varnish is formulated specifically for water-based acrylic resins, such as Jesmonite AC100 and Acrystal Prima. It is not suitable for epoxy, polyester or polyurethane resins.

How long should you wait before applying the varnish to the piece?

The piece must be fully cured and dry before varnishing. In the case of Jesmonite AC100 or Acrystal Prima, wait at least the full cure time recommended by the manufacturer (normally 24 hours under normal conditions) before applying Creaspray Gloss Varnish.

Can it be combined with a release agent, or does it affect the moulding process?

The varnish is always applied as a final finish, once the piece is already out of the mould and fully cured. It does not interfere with the moulding process. If you use APM WAX as a release agent in the mould, the varnish comes at the subsequent step, on the finished piece.

What should you do if the can stops spraying properly?

If the can loses pressure or the nozzle becomes clogged, make sure to shake it well before each use. If the nozzle is blocked, clean it with a cloth or replace it. Always store the can upright, in a cool place away from heat sources, to preserve the aerosol pressure.
