What it's used for

This paper is designed for special effects artists, film and television makeup artists, and FX professionals who need to work with large-format prosthetics and transfers with precision and speed. Its generous size allows you to cover large body areas in one go, and thanks to the release coating on both sides, it can be used as a release surface for PTM Light Flesh and PTM Clear.

  • Large-format silicone prosthetic transfer (back, chest, torso)
  • Release surface for curing and transporting delicate prosthetics
  • Application of temporary tattoo transfers on skin
  • Series production: can be cut to custom sizes
  • Work base for encapsulants such as PTM during the manufacturing process
  • Events, conventions and shoots where application speed is required

How to use it

  1. Thoroughly clean and dry the work surface or skin area where you will apply the transfer.
  2. Place the prosthetic or PTM layer on the paper with the side to be released resting on the sheet.
  3. If using it as a curing support, spread the material (PTM or other encapsulant) over the sheet and allow to cure according to the product instructions.
  4. Once cured, carefully peel the prosthetic or transfer from the paper, starting from a corner. The double-sided coating facilitates clean release without tearing.
  5. Apply the transfer to the prepared skin area using the appropriate adhesive (Sil-Key, Pros-Aide or another prosthetic adhesive).
  6. If you need a smaller size, cut the sheets with scissors or a cutter before starting the process.

Usage tips

Cut first, not after

If you work on productions where you need several different sizes, cut a batch of sheets at the start of the day. The paper handles well with standard scissors and a cutter on a hard surface. Having sizes prepared in advance greatly speeds up continuity work.

Double-sided: make use of both faces

The release coating on both sides isn't just to avoid confusion: you can use the reverse as a second release surface for a second simultaneous piece. In productions with multiple identical prosthetics, this halves paper consumption.

Combine it with your PTM workflow

For best results when making prosthetics with PTM Light Flesh or PTM Clear, spread the material directly onto this paper. The edge blends cleanly and the prosthetic releases without distortion. Store used sheets flat and without folds to keep the release surface in optimal condition.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is a release transfer paper used for in SFX?

It acts as a release surface during the manufacturing and transport of prosthetics. The PTM TattooTransfer Paper allows the material to cure on it without adhering, facilitating clean release without distortion. It is also used as a support for applying temporary tattoo transfers on skin.

Why is it important that it is release-coated on both sides?

With coating on only one side, it is easy to place the prosthetic on the wrong side, which can ruin the piece. With both sides treated, any orientation works correctly, the margin for error is reduced and the workflow is accelerated, especially under the pressure of a shoot.

Can this paper be used with any SFX encapsulant or adhesive?

It is optimised for use with PTM products (such as PTM Light Flesh and PTM Clear) and with Pros-Aide type adhesives. For other products, it is recommended to do a prior test on a small piece to verify correct release.

Can the sheet be reused after first use?

It depends on the use. If the sheet has been in contact with adhesives or encapsulants that have cured, the coating may be compromised in that area. For precision prosthetics or fine edges, it is recommended to use a new sheet. For less critical uses, you can reuse intact areas of the same sheet.

What prosthetic size can be worked with the 12x12'' format?

The 30.5 x 30.5 cm format is suitable for upper back, chest, shoulder or large body area prosthetics. For smaller pieces, such as foreheads, noses or cheeks, you can cut the sheets to size. For smaller formats, the Tattoo and PTM Transfer Paper in A4 format is also available.

What other materials do I need to make a complete SFX prosthetic?

For a professional SFX prosthetic you need: a platinum silicone or PTM for the body of the piece, an encapsulant for the edges, a skin-specific adhesive, pigments and paints for integration makeup, and safety equipment (gloves, mask). The PTM TattooTransfer Paper enters the process as a curing support and transfer surface.

Is there any difference between this format and the A4 sheets?

The 12x12'' (30.5 x 30.5 cm) format offers more surface area per sheet than standard A4, making it ideal for large body prosthetics. The A4 format in a pack of 10 sheets is more practical for facial or smaller-scale work. The choice depends on the size of your usual pieces.
