Chlorine-free silicone spray release agent and lubricant. Suitable for non-metallic materials. 340 g can. Not suitable for silicone-on-silicone demoulding.

Molykote Separator Spray is a silicone-based aerosol release agent and lubricant, formulated to facilitate demoulding on non-metallic materials such as resins, polyurethanes, plaster, fibreglass, wood or plastics. Its chlorine-free formulation and high chemical neutrality make it compatible with a wide range of substrates, leaving no aggressive residues or altering surfaces. Ideal for workshop use when you need a fast, clean, general-purpose release agent.

What it is used for

Molykote Separator Spray is designed for situations where you need fast, reliable demoulding without complex preparation. Its silicone base forms a sliding film that prevents adhesion between the cast material and the mould or working surface. Use it whenever you work with moulds made of non-metallic materials or surfaces that require spot lubrication.

  • Demoulding epoxy resin or polyurethane parts from plaster, wood or plastic moulds
  • Demoulding plaster or gypsum parts from rigid moulds
  • Lubrication of moving plastic parts and mechanisms
  • Preparation of work surfaces (tables, tools) before pouring adhesive materials
  • Demoulding in production of fibreglass parts with polyester or epoxy resin
  • Surface protection against adhesion in laminating processes

How to use it

  1. Thoroughly clean the contact surface, removing dust, residues from previous materials and moisture.
  2. Shake the can before use.
  3. Hold the spray at approximately 25 cm from the surface.
  4. Apply a uniform, thin film without pooling or accumulating excess product in any area.
  5. Allow the propellant to evaporate for a few seconds before pouring the material.
  6. After use, spray briefly in an inverted position to clean the nozzle and prevent blockages.
Important: Molykote Separator Spray is NOT suitable for separating two parts of a silicone mould from each other. The silicone in the spray can inhibit or interfere with addition-cure (platinum) silicones and does not act as an effective barrier between silicone surfaces. To demould silicone on silicone, use a specific release agent such as Ferosil V 32 Desmoldeante en Pasta para Siliconas.

Usage tips

Apply thin, even coats

A film that is too thick can leave marks or residues on the surface of the finished part, especially on decorative pieces or parts with a visible finish. The key is a thin, homogeneous coat. If the mould is very absorbent (plaster, untreated wood), apply two coats allowing drying time between them.

Do not use this spray with platinum silicone moulds

If you work with addition-cure (platinum) silicones, any contamination from spray silicone can cause inhibition in the contact areas. Reserve Molykote Separator Spray for resin, plaster, plastic or fibreglass moulds. To separate silicone parts or protect silicone moulds, opt for Ferosil V 32.

Keep the nozzle clean to extend service life

After each working session, invert the spray and press for 1–2 seconds onto a piece of paper until only gas comes out. This cleans the inner tube and nozzle, preventing blockages in subsequent uses. Store the can upright, away from heat sources.

Frequently asked questions

Is this spray suitable for demoulding any type of mould?

It is suitable for moulds made of non-metallic materials: plaster, rigid resin, plastic, wood, fibreglass. It is not suitable for separating two silicone surfaces from each other. In that case you need a specific silicone release agent such as Ferosil V 32.

Can I use this spray release agent with epoxy resins?

Yes. Molykote Separator Spray is compatible with epoxy resins cast onto non-metallic moulds. Apply a thin coat, allow the propellant to evaporate and pour the resin. The result is a clean release with no residues that interfere with the part's finish.

How many applications does a 340 g can provide?

It depends on the size of the treated surface and the thickness of the applied film. With correct application (thin coat at 25 cm distance) the yield is very high. For small or medium moulds, one can can provide dozens or even hundreds of applications.

Does this spray leave visible residues on the demoulded part?

With correct application (thin, uniform film) residues are minimal or imperceptible. If too much product accumulates, surface marks or stains may appear. On parts with a critical finish, apply just the right amount and if necessary clean the part with a soft cloth after demoulding.

Is it necessary to use release agent on every casting?

On very polished or non-porous moulds it may be sufficient to reapply every few castings, but the most advisable approach is to apply a thin coat on each production cycle to ensure clean demoulding and prevent the part from sticking. On porous moulds such as plaster, reapplication is always necessary.

Can I use a silicone spray as a release agent for platinum silicone moulds?

No. Silicone spray can contaminate the mould surface and inhibit the cure of addition-cure (platinum) silicone in the contact areas. When working with platinum silicones, use only specific, compatible release agents such as Ferosil V 32.

What is the difference between a spray release agent and a paste release agent?

The spray allows fast, uniform application over large surfaces, ideal for production or when you need to cover a mould in seconds. The paste, such as Ferosil V 32, offers greater control over the amount applied and is the preferred option for silicone moulds or when maximum precision is required. Both have their advantages depending on the context of use.

How do I prevent the nozzle from becoming blocked?

When you finish using the spray, invert it and press for 1–2 seconds until only gas comes out. This cleans the inner tube and nozzle, considerably extending the service life of the can and preventing problems on the next use.
