What it is used for

The Pegworks Tooth Lacquer Palette Serie 2 is designed for SFX makeup professionals, theatrical makeup artists and special effects technicians who need to modify tooth colour quickly, safely and temporarily. The Serie 2 colours expand the available range for creating ageing, decay, disease effects or simply altering the natural tooth tone.

  • Aged, yellowed or stained teeth effects for film and television
  • Horror characterisations with dark, necrotic or rotten teeth
  • Theatre and performing arts where dental appearance modification is required
  • Editorial fashion photography with altered dental aesthetic effects
  • Application on dental veneers and crowns without damaging the material
  • Long shooting days where a stable but removable tooth colour is needed

How to use it

  1. Separate the lips and keep them away from the teeth throughout the entire application to prevent moisture or rubbing from ruining the result.
  2. Dry the teeth and surrounding area with a disposable tissue or gauze. It is essential that the surface is completely dry for the lacquer to adhere correctly.
  3. Activate the lacquer by wetting a fine brush in 99% isopropyl alcohol and work over the palette colours just as you would with any palette from the Skin Illustrator family.
  4. Apply the lacquer to the teeth with the brush, building up colour in thin layers until the desired effect is achieved.
  5. Allow to dry completely before closing the mouth. Drying is fast thanks to the alcohol.
  6. Once dry, lightly run a wet tongue over the teeth to lubricate the area and help the lips glide naturally over the application without lifting it.
  7. To remove the colour, brush teeth with toothpaste as normal.

Tips and advice

Dental surface preparation

The key to a good result is a completely dry surface. Any trace of saliva will prevent the lacquer from adhering properly and will cause uneven patches. Use gauze or disposable tissues and work quickly. If the actor tends to salivate heavily, dry again just before application.

Colour control and layering

The Tooth Lacquer Palette Serie 2 allows layers to be built up to adjust colour. Always start with very thin layers and build up until the required opacity is achieved. You can blend colours from the same palette on the brush to achieve intermediate tones or more natural effects. Wait for each layer to dry before applying the next.

Compatibility with other Skin Illustrator palettes

The alcohol activation technique is the same as used with the rest of the Skin Illustrator range palettes. If you already work with them, the workflow will feel completely familiar. You can combine the dental lacquer with the Skin Illustrator FX Palette for a complete look covering both skin and teeth in the same makeup session.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to apply this lacquer directly on teeth?

Yes. The Pegworks Tooth Lacquer Palette Serie 2 is specifically formulated for use on teeth, veneers and crowns. It is a safe product when used according to the manufacturer's instructions.

How long does the colour last once applied?

Duration is temporary and depends on contact with saliva, food and drinks. Under shooting or stage conditions, with a dry mouth and nothing ingested, the colour remains stable for several hours. It is not intended as a permanent solution.

Does it work on porcelain or resin veneers and crowns?

Yes. The lacquer is suitable for natural teeth, veneers and crowns. It is important to ensure the surface is thoroughly dry before applying to achieve good adhesion on any type of dental material.

What is used to activate this lacquer?

It is activated with 99% isopropyl alcohol. It is also compatible with the specific activators from the Skin Illustrator line. Do not use water: it will not activate the pigment correctly.

How is the colour removed from teeth?

The removal process is very straightforward: simply brush teeth with toothpaste as normal. No solvents or special products are required.

Can it be mixed with colours from other palettes in the same range?

Yes. Sharing the same alcohol activation system, you can blend colours from the Tooth Lacquer Palette with those from other Skin Illustrator palettes on the brush to achieve custom tones. You can also use the Skin Illustrator FX Palette as a complement for more elaborate effects.

Are there alternatives for longer-lasting tooth colouring?

For applications requiring greater durability or more intense coverage, you can consider the AcrylStains Film Standard, another solution available in the Feroca catalogue for dental colouring in special effects.

Is a sealer or top coat needed?

No additional sealer is needed. Once the alcohol evaporates, the lacquer is set. To facilitate lip movement without lifting the application, the manufacturer recommends running a wet tongue over the already-dry surface, which acts as a natural lubricant without compromising the colour.
