What it is used for
Tongue Color is the fastest and safest way to transform the appearance of the inside of the mouth in any production. It can also be applied to the skin for additional effects:
- Staining the tongue black for death, poison or character transformation effects
- Simulating internal bleeding or mouth wounds with the red colour
- Creating effects of disease, corruption or putrefaction on mucous membranes
- Surrealistic or fantastical character transformations for film and theatre
- Application on skin to simulate inflamed veins, aged tattoos or damaged areas
- Extreme makeup effects for zombie, monster or horror character makeups
- Complement to internal-use blood effects for greater oral realism
How to use it
- Shake the bottle well before each use to homogenise the pigment.
- To stain the tongue, apply a few drops directly onto it and spread them using your own saliva, as if it were a mouthwash; hold for a few seconds before spitting out the excess.
- For full coverage of the mucous membranes, repeat the distribution making sure to cover the inner cheeks and gums if the effect requires it.
- For brush application, use a soft brush on the desired area — tongue, inner lips or skin — and apply thin layers until the desired intensity is achieved.
- Allow to dry for a few seconds before the actor speaks or drinks to maximise the duration of the effect.
- For application on skin, apply with a fine brush over the area and allow to dry completely.
- To remove the product, rinse with plenty of water. Bear in mind that it may leave a temporary residual stain, especially on dental fillings made of plastic or porous materials.

Usage tips
Control the duration of the effect according to the actor
Duration varies considerably from person to person depending on salivary flow. In actors with heavy salivation the colour may fade sooner than expected. Always keep the bottle on hand for touch-ups between takes. If you need greater longevity, minimise liquid intake just before shooting the scene.
Combine with other makeup products
For a complete horror effect, combine Tongue Color with Sangre F/X around the lips or Synthetic Pus Effect for additional textures on the outside of the mouth. The result is far more impactful than using each product separately. For the makeup on the rest of the face, an Aquacolor palette or the Cream Color Circle FX will give you the perfect base.
Application on skin: technique and precautions
When using Tongue Color on skin to simulate veins, bruising or faded tattoos, work with very thin layers and allow each one to dry completely before applying the next. The alcohol in the formula helps fix the pigment, but adhesion is reduced on oily skin. Clean and degrease the area before applying. For wet or sweaty skin effects, complement the result with Transparent Jelly over the area.

Is it safe to use this type of product inside the mouth?
Tongue Color is specifically formulated for use in the mouth: it is a tasteless aqueous solution with ingredients compatible with oral use. It is not designed to be ingested in large quantities, but contact with the mucous membranes and tongue is safe under normal professional use conditions. Always consult the technical data sheet if any actors have known allergies to the colourants included in the formulation.
How long does the effect last once applied?
Duration ranges from 30 minutes to several hours. The main factor is the actor's salivary flow: the higher the salivation, the sooner the colour fades. For productions with long scenes, plan touch-ups between takes and keep the bottle accessible on set.
Can it be used on skin as well as in the mouth?
Yes. Tongue Color can also be applied to the skin with a fine brush to create effects of inflamed veins, aged tattoos or damaged skin areas. Bear in mind that it may leave an intense temporary stain on the skin, especially on more porous areas.
How do you remove the colour from the mouth and skin?
On the mucous membranes and tongue, simply rinse with plenty of water. On the skin, water and soap are usually sufficient, although a slight residual stain may remain that disappears within a few hours. Bear in mind that dental fillings made of plastic or porous materials may retain the colour for longer.
What colours are available?
Feroca offers Tongue Color in black and red. The manufacturer Kryolan produces this product in a wider range (green, yellow, blue, grey, dark blue and white), but currently only these two colours are available in the Feroca catalogue.
Does it stain the teeth as well as the tongue?
Natural tooth enamel resists the stain reasonably well and is easy to clean. However, fillings and crowns made of plastic or porous materials may retain the pigment for longer. Always inform the actor before application so they can decide whether to use dental protection or adjust exposure times.
What other makeup products can it be combined with?
Tongue Color works very well combined with Sangre Supreme Interna for oral haemorrhage effects, and with Synthetic Pus Effect for more elaborate horror results. For facial makeup, combine it with the SFX makeup palettes in the Feroca catalogue.
How much product is needed per makeup session?
For a full effect covering the entire oral cavity, just a few drops are sufficient for each application. The 50 ml bottle allows multiple sessions, making it cost-effective even for productions with several shoot days or repeated performances.
