What it's used for
Aquacolor is designed for professional and amateur artistic makeup artists who need a reliable product with fast application and vivid results. Its glycerin base makes it especially comfortable on skin — no drying or irritation — and its wide colour range covers everything from natural skin tones to high-saturation fantasy colours.
- Theatrical and film character makeup
- Face painting for events, festivals and shows
- Artistic and professional body painting
- Low-budget special effects or fast-turnaround shoots
- Fantasy makeup, Halloween and carnival
- Artistic makeup workshops and courses
- Children's entertainment and themed parties
How to use it
- Clean and thoroughly dry the skin area where you will apply the makeup.
- Lightly dampen a makeup sponge or brush with water.
- Load colour from the palette onto the dampened sponge or brush, without over-saturating.
- Apply to skin with gentle strokes, building in thin layers if you need more coverage.
- Allow to dry completely. Drying time is brief under normal temperature conditions.
- Once dry, you can gently buff with your hand or a towel to set the finish.
- If the makeup will be exposed to heavy sweating, extreme heat or continuous rubbing, apply a setting spray as a final step.
- To remove, use conventional soap and water. No solvents or specialist products required.
Usage tips
Control the amount of water
The key to a good Aquacolor application is the amount of water you use. A brush or sponge that is too wet dilutes the pigment and reduces coverage; too dry and it's hard to pick up colour. The optimal amount is when the brush surface looks slightly glossy but does not drip. Practise on your hand before applying on a client.
Thin layers for better control
Always apply in thin, overlapping layers. A single thick layer takes longer to dry, may crack when facial muscles move and gives a less even finish. Two or three thin layers provide better coverage, greater durability and a far more professional result, especially on high-movement areas such as eyelids, lips or cheeks.
Mix colours on the palette
The 6 colours in the palette can be mixed directly on it or on the brush to achieve intermediate shades. This is particularly useful in facial character work where you need to match skin tones or create gradients. Use a clean brush for each mix and avoid contaminating the base colours in the palette.
Frequently asked questions
Is this makeup suitable for sensitive skin?
Aquacolor is formulated with a glycerin base and cosmetic-quality ingredients commonly found in dermatological creams. It is suitable for most skin types, including sensitive skin. However, if you have a history of allergic reactions to cosmetics, carry out a patch test on a small area of skin and wait 24 hours before full application.
Can it be used on children?
Yes. Aquacolor is one of the most widely used makeups in children's entertainment and parties, precisely because of its gentle formulation and easy removal with soap and water. For children with particularly sensitive skin or dermatitis, consult a dermatologist beforehand and carry out a patch test first.
How long does the makeup last once applied?
Under normal conditions, Aquacolor holds up well to rubbing and gentle handling for several hours. In situations involving intense heat, sweating or physical activity, applying a setting spray is recommended to extend wear. Without a setting spray, a very humid environment may reduce its resistance.
Do I need setting powder to seal it?
Not required under normal conditions. Aquacolor dries with a slight rub resistance without the need for setting powder. If you want a more matte finish or will be working in extreme conditions, you can use a setting spray specifically designed for water-based makeup.
Can it be applied to the body as well as the face?
Yes, Aquacolor is expressly designed for use on face and body. It is a common choice for body painting and full-body character work in theatre, dance and special effects. Removal is just as straightforward: soap and water in the shower.
Can it be mixed with other makeups or products?
Aquacolor mixes well with other water-based makeups. It is not compatible for direct mixing with oil-based or alcohol-based makeups, although these can be used in separate layers on skin if the application process requires it. For complex special effects, consult the technical data sheets for each product.
How do you clean the brush or sponge afterwards?
Being water-based, brushes and sponges can be cleaned simply with water and mild soap. Rinse thoroughly and leave to air dry. No solvents or specialist cleaning products are required.
What is the difference between this makeup and alcohol-based makeups?
Water-based makeups like Aquacolor are more comfortable on skin, easier to apply without specialist tools and are removed without solvents. Alcohol-based makeups offer greater resistance to water and heavy sweating, making them preferable for very long-wear applications or direct contact with water. For most theatrical applications, festivals and body painting, Aquacolor is the most practical and versatile option.
