What it's used for

These pigments are designed for projects that require high visual impact colour. Their fluorescent nature makes them particularly interesting for decoration, art and signage, both in solid pieces and surface layers:

  • Casting decorative pieces in acrylic resin with vivid colours
  • Creating gradients and colour blends by mixing several shades from the set
  • Surfaces and coatings with neon or fluorescent effects
  • Contemporary art, sculpture and product design
  • Manufacturing prop elements with eye-catching colours
  • Educational and creative projects where colour takes centre stage

How to use it

  1. Prepare the acrylic resin mix following the manufacturer's instructions (standard water/powder ratio).
  2. Weigh the pigment: use 2 g of pigment per 100 g of total mix (2%). For softer tones, reduce the amount; for greater intensity, increase slightly without exceeding 5%.
  3. Add the FLUO pigment to the liquid component (water or aqueous phase) before incorporating the powder, to facilitate homogeneous dispersion.
  4. Mix with a spatula or low-speed mixer until a uniform colour is achieved with no streaks.
  5. If you want to create gradients, prepare several mixes with different colours and pour in layers or side by side into the mould.
  6. Cast or pour the pigmented mix into the mould and allow to cure according to the instructions of the acrylic system used.
  7. Demould once curing is complete and, if desired, apply a surface finish to enhance the gloss.

Usage tips

Dosage and tone control

The standard 2% dose delivers highly saturated colours. If you're looking for a pastel effect or a soft transition, start at 0.5–1% and work upwards. Bear in mind that the mix in its wet state always looks darker than the final cured result: always dry a small sample before adjusting the quantity.

Colour mixing

The 6 pigments in the set are compatible with each other, allowing you to expand the palette without purchasing additional colours. Mix Yellow + Green for a fluorescent lime, or Pink + Purple for an intense magenta. Always note down the exact proportions so you can reproduce the colour in future batches. If you need to cover large volumes and are also looking for metallic effects, you can complement with Magic Powder in separate surface layers.

Compatibility and storage

These pigments are formulated for water-based acrylic resins. They are not suitable for polyurethane or epoxy systems without first verifying compatibility; for polyurethanes, check out the PolyColor Dyes. Store the containers tightly closed, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve fluorescent intensity. Once opened, use as soon as possible.

Frequently asked questions

How much pigment do I need to colour my mix?

The recommended dose with the Set FLUO is 2%: 2 g of pigment per 100 g of mix. For 1 kg of mix, use 20 g. You can reduce the amount for softer tones or increase it slightly for greater saturation, although exceeding 5% may affect the mechanical properties of the material.

Can I mix different colours from the set together?

Yes. The 6 pigments in the Set FLUO are fully compatible and can be mixed in any proportion to create new shades. Always note down the proportions used if you need to reproduce the colour in future pieces.

Are they suitable for resins other than acrylics?

These pigments are formulated for water-based acrylic resins. For polyurethane systems, PolyColor Dyes are the right choice. For epoxy or polyester resins, it is advisable to use pigments specifically compatible with solvent-based or water-free curing systems.

Does the colour change when the material cures?

Yes, it is common for the mix in its wet state to appear darker and more intense. Once cured and dried, the final tone is usually somewhat lighter. It is always recommended to make a test sample before producing the final piece, especially if the exact colour is critical.

Do the fluorescent pigments glow in the dark?

The pigments in the Set FLUO are fluorescent, meaning they absorb and reflect visible light with great intensity, especially under ultraviolet (UV) light. They are not phosphorescent (they do not store light to emit it in the dark), but under UV black light they offer a very striking effect.

How do I achieve colour gradients in a single piece?

Prepare two or more mixes separately, each pigmented with a different colour. Pour the mixes into the mould simultaneously or by zones before they begin to set. You can also apply successive layers waiting for each one to gel slightly. If you need more working time, the Retardante Acrystal extends the open time of the mix.

Do these pigments affect the strength or hardness of the final material?

At the recommended 2% dose, the impact on mechanical properties is minimal. Very high dosages (above 5%) may slightly reduce the strength of the cured material. Always respect the indicated dose to ensure the structural integrity of the piece.

Can I combine these pigments with other additives such as thickeners or retarders?

Yes. The FLUO pigments are compatible with additives such as the Retardante Acrystal or the Tixotropante Acrystal. Always incorporate the pigment into the liquid phase before adding any other powder additive, and make sure to disperse each component thoroughly before continuing.
