Set of 15 pigments (13 colours) for Jesmonite, 10 g per container. High concentration, easy mixing and stable colour over time.

The Jesmonite Pigment Set brings together 15 containers of 10 g each, with 13 colours specifically formulated for use with Jesmonite AC100 and similar acrylate-based systems. Their high concentration delivers intense tones with minimal amounts, and they integrate cleanly and evenly into the Jesmonite water-based mix without affecting the setting time or the final strength of the piece.

What it is used for

These pigments are designed for mass-colouring Jesmonite pieces before casting, allowing uniform colour throughout the entire cross-section of the piece, not just on the surface. They can also be used to create marbling effects, colour layers or custom decorative finishes.

  • Mass colouring of Jesmonite pieces (vases, trays, plant pots, sculptures)
  • Decoration and crafts: jewellery, accessories, gift items
  • Marbling and gradient effects by combining two or more colours
  • Prototyping and architectural modelling with specific chromatic finishes
  • Interior design pieces: boards, decorative wall lights, knobs and handles
  • Simulation of natural materials (terracotta, stone, clay) by blending earth tones
  • Education and creative workshops where Jesmonite is regularly used

How to use it

  1. Weigh the amount of Jesmonite AC100 powder you need for your project.
  2. Add the dry pigment directly to the powder before incorporating the acrylate liquid. Start with a small amount (approximately 1–3% by weight of the powder) and adjust to the desired shade.
  3. Mix the pigment into the powder until you achieve a uniform colour with no dry streaks.
  4. Add the acrylate liquid in the ratio specified by the Jesmonite manufacturer (normally 3:1 by weight, powder:liquid) and mix thoroughly until homogeneous.
  5. For marbling effects, prepare two mixes with different colours and pour them into the mould alternately or in a spiral; work with minimal movements to keep the colours from blending.
  6. Pour into the mould and allow to set according to the Jesmonite system instructions.
  7. Demould once setting is complete and allow to cure in open air if necessary before the final finish.

Usage tips

Dosage and shade control

These pigments are highly concentrated: 1–2% by weight of the powder is already enough to achieve solid colours. For pastel shades, a small pinch is sufficient. Always mix the pigment dry before adding the liquid; this prevents lumps and ensures perfect dispersion. If you want to blend colours from the set to create intermediate shades, do this dry as well before incorporating the base powder.

Marbling and layering effects

For clean marbling, prepare two or three contrasting colour mixes separately and pour them into the mould in alternating thin streams. Use a toothpick or thin rod to create the veining with slow, controlled strokes. The less you mix, the more defined the veins will be. The white and black included in the set are especially useful as a neutral base or for darkening any shade without shifting towards unwanted colours.

Pigment storage

Seal each container tightly after use. Store in a dry place away from moisture: powder pigments can clump if they absorb ambient humidity. If you notice small lumps when opening the container, simply break them up with a spatula before measuring out. Refrigeration is not necessary.

Frequently asked questions

What percentage of pigment should I add to achieve an intense colour?

With this set, a percentage of between 1% and 3% by weight of the Jesmonite powder is usually sufficient to achieve solid, intense colours. For lighter or pastel shades, work below 1%. Exceeding 5% can negatively affect the mechanical strength of the piece, so it is best not to overdo it.

Can I mix colours from the set with each other?

Yes, all pigments in the Jesmonite Pigment Set are compatible with each other. Mix the powders dry before incorporating them into the Jesmonite base powder to achieve uniform dispersion. White is especially useful for creating lighter versions of any shade, and black for darkening.

Do these pigments work with other resins or materials?

They are formulated and optimised for Jesmonite and similar water-based systems. For polyurethane resins, it is recommended to use specific pigments compatible with solvent-based or water-free systems, such as PolyColor Dyes. For polyester or epoxy resins, check compatibility before use.

Does the colour last over time or does it fade?

The pigments in the set are formulated to be stable and fade-resistant under normal indoor conditions. For pieces exposed to direct sunlight over extended periods, it is recommended to apply a protective finish over the completed piece to maximise colour durability.

At what point in the process should the pigment be added?

The most practical approach is to mix the powder pigment directly with the Jesmonite powder before adding the acrylate liquid. This ensures uniform dispersion and prevents lumps or colour streaks. If added once the paste has already been mixed, the distribution may be less homogeneous.

How many pieces can I colour with 10 g of pigment?

It depends on the shade and intensity desired. At a 2% dose by weight of the powder, 10 g of pigment can colour 500 g of Jesmonite powder, which is equivalent to approximately 650–700 g of ready-to-use mix. For small pieces such as bowls or coasters, that represents several units per container.

Do the pigments affect the setting time of Jesmonite?

At normal doses (up to 3%), the pigments do not significantly alter the working or setting time of Jesmonite. Very high doses could slightly slow down the process, but within the recommended ranges the behaviour is the same as the standard Jesmonite system.

Can I use these pigments to add colour to decorative fillers such as metallic powders?

Yes, the pigments in the set are compatible with decorative powder fillers. If you want to combine them with special effects, first mix the pigment with the base powder and then add the decorative filler, such as Magic Powder, to achieve metallic effects with a custom colour base.
