What it is used for

The Bite is designed for any production or event where a convincing and long-lasting bite wound needs to be simulated. Its ultra-thin edges and the detail of the internal texture allow it to be seamlessly integrated into the skin, even in close-up.

  • Special effects for film, television and music video shoots
  • Theatre and opera productions with gore or horror effects
  • Editorial fashion, horror or fantasy photo sessions
  • Halloween themed events and professional costume parties
  • Training and practice at SFX makeup schools
  • High-end cosplay with realistic wound effects

How to use it

  1. Clean and thoroughly dry the area of skin where you will apply the prosthetic. Remove any traces of grease or cream.
  2. Dry-fit the prosthetic to check the fit and position before applying any adhesive.
  3. Apply a dermal adhesive to the inner face of the prosthetic edges. Allow it to become slightly tacky (semi-dry) before pressing onto the skin.
  4. Press carefully from the centre outwards to the edges to avoid air bubbles. Hold the pressure for a few seconds.
  5. Blend and melt the edges using PTM Light Flesh or an acetone-based bald cap sealer, depending on the finish you need.
  6. Paint and shade the prosthetic with silicone paints to match the model's skin tone and integrate the wound naturally.
  7. Set the makeup with a silicone-compatible sealer to increase durability throughout the production.
  8. To remove the prosthetic, apply a dermal adhesive remover or isopropyl alcohol along the edges and lift gently. Never pull it off dry.
  9. Clean the prosthetic with warm water and mild soap, dry it and store it on its support or in tissue paper to preserve its shape.
Warning — platinum silicone: This prosthetic is made from platinum silicone. Although the product is already cured, if you repair or modify it with fresh platinum silicone you must be aware that any contact with sulphur-containing materials (sulphur-based clays, latex, certain adhesives, latex gloves) can inhibit the cure of the new silicone, leaving it tacky or uncured. Always work with nitrile gloves and on clean surfaces.

Tips and tricks

Perfect edge integration

The secret to an invisible prosthetic lies in the edges. Work in thin layers with PTM Light Flesh or PTM Clear to seal the transition between the silicone and the skin. Apply with a makeup sponge and blend using stippling motions — never dragging — to avoid lifting the edge.

Repainting and colour customisation

Platinum silicone does not accept acrylic or water-based paint directly. Always use paints formulated for silicone or compatible pigments. If you need to adjust the base tone of the prosthetic, mix the pigment with a liquid silicone medium and apply in thin layers. Work the inside of the wound with red and purple tones before adding artificial blood effects to build depth.

Storage and reuse

Platinum silicone prosthetics are reusable if handled with care. After each use, remove adhesive residue with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab, avoiding harsh rubbing. Store the prosthetic on its original mould or on a flat surface — never folded. Protect it from dust with tissue paper or in a plastic bag without a hermetic seal to prevent moisture build-up.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to apply directly onto skin?

Yes. The Bite is made from fully cured platinum silicone, a material widely used in medical and cosmetic prosthetics. It is safe for dermal use on most skin types. If the model has very sensitive skin, carry out a patch test on a small area before full application.

What adhesive is recommended for securing this type of prosthetic?

Acrylic-based dermal adhesives or silicone-specific prosthetic adhesives are the best option. Avoid cyanoacrylate adhesives or neoprene-type contact adhesives, as they can damage both the silicone and the skin. Check with your FX makeup supplier to ensure the adhesive is compatible with platinum silicone.

How long can it be worn during a shoot?

With a good adhesive and properly sealed edges, the prosthetic can remain adhered for several hours without issue. On long shooting days, check the edges every few hours and reinforce adhesion if necessary. Excessive sweating may reduce hold.

Can the prosthetic be painted once it is in place?

Yes. Once applied, you can touch up the colour with silicone-compatible paints or alcohol activated makeup, which adheres well to non-porous surfaces. Avoid water-based makeup on silicone, as it tends to bead up and does not cover evenly.

How do you remove it without damaging the skin or the prosthetic?

Apply a dermal adhesive remover or isopropyl alcohol along the edges using a cotton swab or fine brush. Wait a few seconds for the adhesive to soften, then lift the prosthetic gently from one end. Never pull sharply. Once removed, clean adhesive residue from both the skin and the prosthetic.

How many times can it be reused?

It depends on the care it receives. With proper cleaning and storage, a platinum silicone prosthetic can be used multiple times without losing detail or its properties. The ultra-thin edges are the most delicate area — handle them carefully to avoid tearing.

Can it be applied to any part of the body?

The Bite can be applied to areas with relatively flat or gently curved skin, such as the neck, shoulder, forearm or face. In areas of heavy movement or with significant body hair, adhesion can be more challenging. Shaving the area and applying a dermal sealer base before the adhesive noticeably improves hold.

Do I need a full SFX makeup kit to use it?

It is not essential, but it is recommended for maximum realism. With a good dermal adhesive, PTM Clear or PTM Light Flesh to seal the edges, and some basic pigments to adjust the colour, you can achieve very convincing results even without advanced prior experience.
