What it is used for

This prosthetic is designed to create the effect of a deep wound or cut in the shape of an "S" on any area of the body or face. The Bald Cap encapsulation allows ultra-thin edges that blend seamlessly with the skin without requiring advanced transition techniques. It is a versatile tool for both filming and photographic sessions or artistic makeup competitions.

  • Special effects in film and television productions
  • Cosplay and character design at conventions and events
  • FX makeup tutorials and educational content
  • Horror, thriller or dark fantasy photographic sessions
  • Testing and demos of special effects makeup techniques
  • Artistic makeup competitions and contests

How to use it

  1. Thoroughly clean and degrease the application area with a gentle cleanser or isopropyl alcohol. The skin must be dry and free of creams.
  2. Position the prosthetic over the chosen area to check placement before adhering.
  3. Apply a silicone prosthetic adhesive to the edges of the Bald Cap and onto the skin. Allow it to lose its shine before joining the surfaces.
  4. Press gently from the centre outward towards the edges to avoid air bubbles.
  5. Seal and blend the edges of the Bald Cap with acetone solvent or a specific sealer to integrate the transition with the skin.
  6. Paint the prosthetic with silicone pigments and colours or alcohol-activated makeup to match the skin tone and add realism (blood, depth, shadows). You can use PTM Light Flesh or PTM Clear to adjust the base colour.
  7. Add artificial blood or other wet effects inside the cut to enhance realism.
  8. To remove it, apply a specific adhesive remover for prosthetics along the edges and moisturise the skin thoroughly after removal.
Caution — platinum silicone: risk of cure inhibition
This prosthetic is made from platinum silicone (addition cure). Although the piece is already cured, if you work on it with paints, adhesives or materials containing sulphur, tin, amines or latex residues, you may encounter adhesion problems or surface incompatibility. Avoid contact with sulphur-containing clays, uncured cyanoacrylate adhesives and fresh latex. If in doubt, always carry out a preliminary test on a small area first.

Usage tips

Skin preparation

A clean, degreased surface is key to keeping the prosthetic in place throughout the session or shooting day. If the area has hair, consider shaving it to facilitate adhesion and removal without damaging the skin. On skin prone to oiliness, apply a thin layer of skin sealer before the adhesive.

Painting and character design

Platinum silicone accepts alcohol-based paints and silicone-specific pigments well. Work in thin layers and allow each layer to dry before applying the next for a more realistic result. To mimic the internal texture of a wound, use reddish and purple tones inside the cut and add shine with petroleum jelly or blood gel. PTM Clear is useful for creating translucent glazes that imitate living skin.

Storage and reuse

If you remove the prosthetic carefully and clean it thoroughly of adhesive residue with the appropriate solvent, you can reuse it across multiple sessions. Store it flat, protected from dust and away from direct heat sources. Avoid folding or compressing it during storage to preserve the shape of the cut intact.

Frequently asked questions

What adhesive is recommended for applying this type of prosthetic to the skin?

For prosthetics encapsulated with acetone Bald Cap, specific adhesives for theatrical or special effects prosthetics are used — either solvent-based or water-based depending on the model's skin. Consult your FX makeup supplier for the most suitable adhesive for your required wear time. Avoid cyanoacrylate adhesives directly on the skin.

Can you paint directly onto platinum silicone?

Yes. Platinum silicone accepts alcohol-activated paints and silicone-specific pigments. Do not use water-based acrylics without a suitable primer, as they may flake off. PTM Light Flesh is a good starting base for matching skin tone.

How long can this type of prosthetic be worn?

It depends on the adhesive used, the model's skin and environmental conditions (heat, sweat, humidity). Under normal filming or photographic session conditions, this type of prosthetic holds well for several hours without issues. For long shooting days, it is recommended to touch up the edges with adhesive if partial lifting is detected.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

Platinum silicone is one of the most biocompatible materials available in special effects, making it suitable for most skin types. However, the reaction also depends on the adhesive and solvent used. Always carry out a patch test 24 hours beforehand on models with a history of skin allergies.

How is it removed without damaging the skin?

Apply a specific remover for the adhesive you used along the edges of the prosthetic and wait a few seconds before lifting. Do not pull forcefully. Once removed, clean off adhesive residue with the same remover and apply a moisturising cream to soothe the skin.

Can the prosthetic be reused across multiple sessions?

Yes, as long as it is removed carefully and properly cleaned of adhesive and makeup residue. Store it flat, in a cool and dust-free place. Platinum silicone is durable and holds its shape well if not subjected to mechanical stress during storage.

What happens if the edge of the prosthetic does not blend well with the skin?

The acetone Bald Cap encapsulation is designed to create very thin edges that blend with the skin when the appropriate solvent is applied. If the edge remains visible, apply a small amount of acetone with a fine brush along the edge and blend with your fingertip before it dries. Then paint over it to even out the transition.

Which Feroca products complement the use of this prosthetic?

For character design and painting you can use PTM Light Flesh as a flesh-tone base or PTM Clear for translucent glazes. If you are looking for tattoo transfers or textures to combine with the prosthetic, the Tattoo and PTM Transfer Paper is a very useful complement for complex character designs.
