Two-component platinum silicone paint base. Ideal for prosthetics, special effects and reborn dolls. Apply with airbrush or brush.

Plat-Paint New is a two-component platinum (addition) silicone paint base, specifically formulated to pigment and paint flexible silicone surfaces. Developed for special effects professionals, anaplastology prosthetics, dolls and reborn, it allows the creation of ultra-thin colour layers that stretch and bend with the silicone without cracking or peeling.

What it is used for

Plat-Paint New is designed to add colour to platinum silicone pieces once cast or to apply paint layers inside moulds before pouring. When cured, the paint film becomes fully integrated with the silicone, retaining all its flexibility and tear resistance.

  • External painting of silicone prosthetics (ears, noses, fingers, nipples, anaplastological pieces)
  • Colouring of reborn dolls and figures in platinum silicone
  • Special effects and character makeup for film, television and theatre
  • Application inside platinum silicone or polyurethane moulds before casting silicone, to achieve surface colour effects
  • Creation of translucent or saturated pigmentation layers through multiple airbrush passes
  • Painting of artistic pieces, sculptures and models in flexible silicone

How to use it

  1. Mix 100 parts of component A with 100 parts of component B. Stir carefully to fully homogenise without incorporating bubbles.
  2. Add silicone pigments (or Key-Pigments FX for special effects) until the desired colour is achieved. Mix thoroughly until the colour is completely uniform.
  3. Thin the pigmented mix with 200 parts of solvent (naphtha or toluene) to achieve the right viscosity for airbrush or brush. The final ratio is: 100A + 100B + 200 solvent.
  4. Apply thin layers onto the platinum silicone surface with an airbrush or brush. Work in successive layers to control colour intensity.
  5. Allow each layer to cure before applying the next. The working time once thinned is approximately 20 minutes, so only prepare the amount you will use within that time.
  6. If you are applying Plat-Paint New inside a mould, spread it evenly, allow it to cure and then cast the platinum silicone.
  7. Clean the airbrush and tools immediately after use with the recommended solvent, following the instructions in the product's technical data sheet.
Warning — Platinum silicone inhibition
Plat-Paint New is a platinum (addition) silicone and may be inhibited by contact with certain materials: sulphur-containing clays and plasticines, latex, tin (condensation) silicones, freshly cast epoxy and polyester resins, vinyl, petroleum jelly and some unsealed metal surfaces. If the paint remains tacky or does not harden, the most likely cause is contamination from one of these materials. Ensure that all surfaces and tools are clean and free from inhibitors before applying the product.

Usage tips

Adjust the thinning ratio according to the application method

The ratio 100A + 100B + 200 solvent is recommended for airbrush. If applying with a brush, you can slightly reduce the amount of solvent to obtain a somewhat thicker layer. With naphtha you get a slightly faster drying time than with toluene, which can be useful when working with very thin layers.

Work in thin, progressive layers

It is preferable to apply several thin layers rather than a single thick one. Thin layers integrate better with the base silicone, the colour is more uniform and build-ups that can crack with movement are avoided. For realistic skin effects, combine Key-Pigments FX in different shades and apply them in layers to achieve depth and translucency.

Control the temperature and humidity of the environment

Platinum silicones are sensitive to environmental conditions. Work at a stable temperature (ideally between 20 and 25 ºC) and avoid environments with high humidity or vapours from other materials in the workshop. If using an airbrush, ensure the compressed air is dry and oil-free to avoid contaminating the mix or inhibiting the cure.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply this paint on any type of silicone?

Plat-Paint New is formulated to adhere and cure on platinum (addition) silicones. It is not compatible with vinyl, latex or tin (condensation) silicones, as these materials inhibit the curing of platinum silicone, leaving the paint tacky or uncured. If you need to paint on a tin silicone piece, look for other alternatives specifically designed for that type of silicone.

Which pigments are compatible with this paint base?

You should only use pigments specifically formulated for platinum silicones. Conventional pigments (for acrylic paint, oil, etc.) may inhibit curing or not disperse correctly. For general use you can use Feroca's Silicone Pigments, and for special effects and prosthetics the Key-Pigments FX, specially designed to recreate skin tones.

Does the paint crack or peel when the silicone is stretched?

No. Being formulated on a platinum silicone base, Plat-Paint New cures to form an elastic film that stretches and bends together with the base silicone without cracking or peeling. This is one of its main advantages over acrylic or other types of paint, which do not have the same elongation and end up cracking with movement.

How much working time do I have once the mix is thinned?

Once the two components are mixed, the pigments added and thinned with solvent, Plat-Paint New has a working time of approximately 20 minutes at 25 ºC. Only prepare the amount you will use in each session to avoid wasting material.

Can I apply it inside a mould before casting the silicone?

Yes. This is one of the most common applications in prosthetics and special effects. Plat-Paint New is applied inside the mould (platinum silicone or polyurethane), allowed to cure and then the platinum silicone is cast. The result is a piece with colour integrated into the outer surface, giving greater realism and durability to the finish.

Why does the paint remain tacky and not harden?

The most common cause is inhibition by contact with incompatible materials: sulphur-containing clays or plasticines, latex, vinyl, tin silicones, freshly cured epoxy or polyester resins, or contaminated tools. Thoroughly clean all surfaces and tools before working and make sure the pigments used are specific to platinum silicone. It can also occur if the ambient temperature is too low.

Can it be applied with a brush as well as an airbrush?

Yes. The airbrush allows thinner, more uniform layers, ideal for skin effects or gradients. The brush is suitable for faster applications or when airbrush equipment is not available. In that case, adjust the thinning by slightly reducing the amount of solvent to obtain a more manageable consistency for brushing.

Which solvent is used to clean the tools?

It is recommended to clean the airbrush and brushes immediately after use with the same solvent used to thin the paint (naphtha or toluene). Once the silicone has cured on the tools, it is very difficult to remove. Always consult the product's technical data sheet for the complete cleaning procedure.
