What it's used for

The PolyChrome palette is aimed at makeup professionals who need precise, long-lasting coverage in fair skin ranges. Its high pigment concentration — with no unnecessary fillers — delivers exceptional opacity with minimal layers.

  • Tattoo cover-up on pink, peach and porcelain skin tones
  • Character makeup and color correction in film and television productions
  • Special effects makeup on silicone prosthetics and latex pieces
  • Color continuity work on long shooting days
  • Full body makeup where sweat and movement resistance is required
  • Training and practice in professional makeup schools

How to use it

  1. Prepare the surface: make sure the skin or prosthetic is clean, dry and free of oils.
  2. Activate the color: dampen the brush or sponge with isopropyl alcohol 99% or with the specific Skin Illustrator activator. Do not use 70% alcohol, water, MEK or acetone.
  3. Load the color: gently touch the color well with the dampened brush until you achieve the desired load. The pigment activates instantly.
  4. Apply in thin layers: work in thin coats, allowing a few seconds to dry between each layer for greater coverage and durability.
  5. Blend and adjust: combine shades directly on the skin or on the palette to match the exact tone of the subject.
  6. Set the result: once dry, the color resists sweat and friction. You can apply a sealer coat if the production requires it.
  7. Remove the makeup: use Telesis Super Solv or Telesis Makeup Remover for complete removal without irritation.

Usage tips

Cracks and bubbles in the wells: not a defect

Due to the high pigment concentration and absence of fillers in the Skin Illustrator formula, it is normal for some wells to show cracks, bubbles or a reduced appearance when dry. This does not affect the quality or performance of the product in any way. Coverage and resistance remain the same.

Choose the activator according to your working pace

The standard Activator offers a shorter working time, ideal for quick applications and touch-ups on set. The Slow Activator extends the open time and is preferable when you need to blend several shades on skin or work large areas without the color setting prematurely. In both cases, isopropyl alcohol 99% is a valid and accessible alternative.

Work in layers for maximum opacity

To cover dark ink tattoos or highly detailed ones, do not try to cover them in a single thick layer. Apply thin coats and allow each one to dry completely before applying the next. Two or three well-executed layers give a more natural and durable result than a single heavy coat.

Frequently asked questions

Can this type of makeup be used directly on silicone prosthetics?

Yes. The PolyChrome palette is formulated to adhere correctly to silicone without the need for additional primer. This is one of the reasons why Skin Illustrator is the industry standard in special effects productions that use encapsulated silicone prosthetics.

What alcohol should be used to activate these palettes?

Always use isopropyl alcohol at 99% or the specific Skin Illustrator activators. 70% alcohol is not suitable because its water content alters the formula. Acetone, MEK and water should also not be used.

How long does the makeup last once applied?

Once dry, alcohol makeup offers very high resistance to sweat, friction and humidity, making it particularly suitable for long shooting days or live performances. Durability depends on the subject's skin type, prior preparation and environmental conditions.

Can it be used on latex?

Yes, the PolyChrome palette is compatible with latex pieces. Apply using the same technique as on skin: thin layers activated with isopropyl alcohol at 99%.

How is alcohol makeup removed from skin?

It is removed with Telesis Super Solv or Telesis Makeup Remover, products formulated to dissolve the alcohol formula without irritating the skin. Do not use acetone or harsh solvents directly on skin.

Does this palette work for dark or medium skin tones?

The PolyChrome palette is optimised for fair, pink and peach skin tones. For medium or darker skin tones, the Skin Illustrator Complexion Palette or the Skin Illustrator Dark Fleshtone Palette are more suitable options.

What is the difference between this palette and the Flesh Tone Palette?

The Flesh Tone Palette covers a broader range of skin tones, while the PolyChrome is designed specifically to work within the pink, peach and porcelain range. If your work focuses on very fair skin or you need to cover tattoos in that range, the PolyChrome offers greater color precision.

Do cracked or bubbled wells indicate the product is in poor condition?

No. The Skin Illustrator formula has a very high pigment concentration with no fillers. This can cause some wells to show cracks or an uneven appearance when dry, but it does not affect either the quality or the performance of the color. Coverage and resistance remain intact.
