What it is used for

The Nova Palette is designed for special effects artists, makeup artists and body painters who need intense, metallic and long-lasting colors. Its water-resistant formula makes it especially useful on demanding shoots.

  • Artistic body painting and live performances
  • Science fiction and fantasy character makeup
  • Cosplay looks with vibrant metallic colors
  • Underwater shoots (mermaids, aquatic creatures)
  • Special effects on silicone and latex prosthetics
  • High-coverage theatrical makeup
  • Color blending to create unique metallic shades

How to use it

  1. Prepare the surface, making sure it is clean, dry and free of grease.
  2. Activate the color with a few drops of isopropyl alcohol 99%, Skin Illustrator Activator or Skin Illustrator Slow Activator applied directly onto the palette.
  3. Pick up the activated color with a brush, sponge or airbrush.
  4. Apply to the surface in thin layers and allow to dry between coats.
  5. Blend colors directly on the palette or on the skin to achieve custom shades.
  6. Once finished, remove the makeup with Telesis Super Solv or Telesis Makeup Remover.
Important: Always activate the colors with isopropyl alcohol 99%, Skin Illustrator Activator or Skin Illustrator Slow Activator. Do not use 70% alcohol, MEK, acetone or water: they alter the formula and ruin the finish. Pharmacy-grade alcohol (70%) contains water and additives that prevent proper curing.

Usage tips

Thin layers for maximum intensity

Apply several thin layers rather than a single thick coat. Each layer adds depth to the metallic color and improves adhesion. Wait for each layer to dry completely before applying the next; drying time is just a few seconds with the right activator.

Airbrush and color blending

The Nova Palette colors are fully compatible with airbrush: dilute them with isopropyl alcohol 99% to the desired consistency. To create gradients and iridescence effects, blend directly on the palette before loading the brush or airbrush.

Use on silicone and latex prosthetics

When painting on silicone or latex prosthetics, make sure the surface is free of Release agent and fully cured. Apply a very light first coat as a sealer and allow to dry before adding more color. This ensures adhesion and prevents the color from cracking with movement.

Frequently asked questions

What activates these colors?

The colors in the Skin Illustrator On Set Nova Palette are activated with Skin Illustrator Activator, Skin Illustrator Slow Activator or isopropyl alcohol 99%. It is essential that the alcohol is 99% grade; 70% alcohol contains water and does not activate the formula correctly.

Are the colors water resistant once applied?

Yes. Once dry and correctly applied, the Nova Palette makeup is water resistant, making it suitable for underwater shoots, high-sweat performances and long-duration character applications.

Can it be used on silicone prosthetics?

Yes. The palette is formulated to work on skin, silicone and latex. It is one of the most widely used options by professional makeup artists for painting silicone prosthetics for special effects.

How is this type of makeup removed?

It is easily removed with Telesis Super Solv or Telesis Makeup Remover. Do not use water alone or products not designed for alcohol-activated makeup, as they may be ineffective or irritate the skin.

Can it be used with an airbrush?

Yes. Simply dilute the activated color with a little more isopropyl alcohol 99% until you reach the right viscosity for the airbrush. This is a very common technique for gradients and subtle metallic effects.

Can the colors be mixed together?

Yes. You can freely blend all 10 colors in the palette to create unique shades. Mixing is done directly on the palette or on the surface being worked on, always using the appropriate activator.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

Skin Illustrator is an industry-reference formula in special effects and is formulated for use on skin. However, as with any alcohol-based cosmetic product, it is recommended to perform a patch test on a small area before extensive applications, especially on very sensitive or allergy-prone skin.

What is the difference between the On Set version and other Skin Illustrator versions?

The On Set version is specifically optimized for use on set and in professional production, with formulas offering greater longevity and resistance. It is the preferred choice when working conditions are demanding: heat, perspiration, water or long shooting days.
