What it's used for
Jesmonite Sealer Gloss is the finishing sealer for any Jesmonite piece that needs surface protection and a striking, glossy result. It is the go-to solution for decorative, artistic and design projects where the final appearance and long-term durability are a priority.
Sealing and protecting decorative Jesmonite pieces (figures, panels, reliefs)
Gloss finish on sculptures and contemporary art
Surface protection on interior design objects
Enhancing colours and textures in craft and creative work
Barrier against dirt, moisture and everyday wear
Maintenance and restoration of existing Jesmonite pieces
How to use it
Make sure the Jesmonite piece is fully cured, dry and free from dust, grease or contaminants.
If the piece was release-moulded with wax, clean the surface thoroughly to remove any release agent residue before sealing.
Shake or gently stir the product before use to ensure a uniform consistency.
Apply a first thin, even coat with a brush, roller or spray gun, covering the entire surface.
Allow to dry completely between coats (refer to the manufacturer's instructions for exact times depending on ambient temperature).
Apply a second coat if you want greater gloss depth or more robust protection.
Allow to cure under adequate temperature and ventilation conditions before handling the piece.
Tips for use
Surface preparation
A clean, properly cured surface is the key to achieving a uniform, flawless gloss. Any trace of dust, oil or contaminant can cause bubbles or areas of poor adhesion. If the piece has any porous areas, a very thin first coat acts as a primer and reduces uneven absorption in the finishing coat.
Applying thin coats
It is better to apply two thin coats than a single thick one. Thick coats can cause runs, bubbles or uneven drying that compromises the final finish. With a brush, work in a single direction to avoid brush marks; with a spray gun, maintain a constant distance and pass speed for uniform coverage.
Environmental conditions
Always apply in a well-ventilated environment, at a stable temperature (ideally between 15 °C and 25 °C) and without high humidity. Extreme cold or excessive humidity can extend drying times and affect the final gloss result. Avoid applying outdoors on windy days or when there is a risk of airborne dust.
Frequently asked questions
Can it be applied to any Jesmonite piece?
Jesmonite Sealer Gloss AC100 is compatible with pieces made with Jesmonite AC100, AC200 and AC300. Before applying, the piece must be fully cured and the surface must be clean and free from any release agent residue or contaminants.
How many coats should be applied?
In general, two thin coats are enough to achieve a uniform gloss finish and adequate protection. For more porous surfaces or when greater gloss depth is desired, a third coat may be useful, always allowing complete drying between applications.
Does it protect the piece against moisture?
Yes. Jesmonite Sealer Gloss forms a protective film that acts as a barrier against moisture, dirt and everyday wear. However, it is not formulated for continuous water immersion or for outdoor use in continuously extreme weather conditions without periodic maintenance.
How often should the sealer be reapplied?
Under normal decorative indoor use conditions, it is recommended to renew the coating every 6 to 10 years to maintain optimum gloss and protection. In environments with greater exposure to wear, reapplication may be needed more frequently.
Does it alter the colour or texture of the piece?
Jesmonite Sealer Gloss is clear once dry and does not alter the base colour of the piece; on the contrary, it enhances it and adds visual depth. The gloss finish intensifies the perception of colours and texture details without masking the original work.
Can it be applied over pigmented pieces?
Yes. Jesmonite Sealer Gloss is fully compatible with Jesmonite pieces coloured with acrylic pigments or Jesmonite-specific pigments. The sealer coat does not affect the pigment and in fact enhances the vibrancy of the final colour.
Can it be used with an airbrush or spray gun?
Yes. Jesmonite Sealer Gloss can be applied with a spray gun or airbrush, as well as with a brush or roller. Spray application makes it easier to achieve more uniform coverage on pieces with complex geometry or fine detail. It is important to respect application distances and work in a ventilated area.
Is it compatible with other cement-based acrylic materials?
Jesmonite Sealer Gloss is optimised for Jesmonite, but its pure acrylic base makes it potentially compatible with other similar cement- or mineral-based acrylic materials, such as those in the Acrystal Prima and Basic Crystal range. It is always advisable to carry out a test on a small area before applying over the entire piece.
Two-component acrylic resin with no toxins or odour. Mix ratio 1:2.5 by weight, cures in 10 min. Suitable for casting, laminating and EPS foam coating.
