- Blending prosthetic edges across a wide range of skin tones
- Custom self-tinting by adding pigments or Flocking to adjust the exact tone to the performer
- Encapsulation of edges on foam latex, silicone or gelatine pieces
- Applications in film, television, theatre and special effects photography
How to use it
- Make sure the application surface (skin or substrate) is clean, dry and free of grease.
- Gently shake the bottle to homogenise the pigment before use.
- Apply PTM Olive directly from the bottle onto the substrate or prosthetic using a brush, spatula or fine paintbrush, according to the chosen transfer technique.
- If you wish to customise the tone, blend with PTM Clear to lighten the mix, or add pigments and Flocking directly into the bottle or onto the palette.
- Allow the product to form the appropriate film according to the transfer technique you are using (Bondo, Pro-Bondo or Pros Aide).
- Apply the transfer to the skin following the protocol for each technique, ensuring good adhesion and edge blending.
- For transfer paper, use the PTM-specific transfer paper for precise results.
- Remove any excess with the standard solvents recommended for prosthetic adhesives.
Usage tips
Tone adjustment on a mixing palette
The Olive tone works as a neutral warm-cool base colour. If the performer has a more golden skin tone, blend with a small amount of PTM in a warmer tone. If you need to lighten the final result without losing saturation, use PTM Clear as a colour diluent. Always carry out a patch test on the back of the performer's hand before filming or performance.
Transfer film consistency
The thickness of the layer you apply determines the flexibility and durability of the transfer. Thinner layers give greater transparency and mobility; thicker layers provide body and resistance to movement. For prosthetic edges in highly expressive areas (eyelids, nasolabial folds, jawline), work in thin overlapping layers and allow each one to dry before applying the next.
Compatibility with other PTM references
PTM Olive is compatible with the rest of the PTM range. You can blend it directly with PTM Light Flesh to obtain intermediate tones or work on gradients on the piece before transferring. Keep the bottle tightly closed between uses and store at room temperature away from heat sources.
Frequently asked questions
What is a prosthetic transfer and what is it used for?
A prosthetic transfer is a special effects technique in which a film of pigmented adhesive is created that, once dry, is transferred onto the performer's skin to simulate textures, wounds, tattoos or morphological changes. PTM Olive allows you to create that transfer directly from the bottle, simplifying the process on set.
Can I use it straight from the bottle without mixing anything else in?
Yes. PTM Olive is formulated to be used as-is, straight from the bottle. Its pre-processed pigmentation is designed to work as a base without the need for additives. If you want to customise the tone, you can add pigments or blend it with other references from the PTM range.
Which skin tones does this colour work best on?
The Olive tone is optimised for skin with yellow, green or golden undertones, making it particularly suitable for working on performers with Asian, Mediterranean, Latino or Middle Eastern skin. It also works well as a shadow tone or undertone on lighter skin to create depth.
Is it necessary to use special paper for the transfers?
For precise, professional results with printed or fine-edge transfers, it is recommended to use the PTM-specific transfer paper. For direct transfer techniques onto rigid or flexible substrates, paper may not be necessary.
How is the transfer removed from the skin?
PTM Olive is removed with the standard solvents used for acrylate-based prosthetic adhesives. Apply the solvent with a gauze pad or cotton wool and allow it to work for a few seconds before gently removing it so as not to irritate the performer's skin.
Can I add pigments or Flocking directly into the bottle?
Yes. PTM Olive accepts self-tinting with pigments and Flocking directly in the bottle or on a palette. It is advisable not to modify large quantities of the original product in order to preserve the rest of the bottle. Mix in a separate container and keep the original bottle intact.
How long does the product last once opened?
Store PTM Olive with the cap tightly closed, at room temperature and away from direct light and heat. Under normal storage conditions, the product maintains its properties for an extended period. If you notice any changes in consistency or colour, do not use the product.
Is it safe for use on skin?
PTM Olive is specifically formulated for character makeup and special effects applications on skin. As with any professional makeup product, it is recommended to carry out a patch test on a small area of skin before full application, especially on performers with sensitive skin or a history of allergies to acrylic adhesives.
