What it is used for
This liquid vinyl spray is designed to provide a shiny, flexible and protective finish on porous or semi-rigid materials. It is especially effective on high-density EVA foam and similar surfaces. Its most common applications are:
- Gloss finish on cosplay and costume pieces made with EVA foam or similar materials
- Protection and sealing of crafts with a decorative finish
- Finishing of accessories, armatures and props for film and theatre
- Decoration of plastic objects, painted wood or lightweight surfaces
- Protective varnish over already cured liquid vinyl from the FullDip Solid Colours range
- Special effects and decorative finishes on creative projects
How to use it
- Make sure the surface is clean, dry and free of dust or grease. If working on EVA foam, you can seal the pores beforehand with a coat of FullDip itself or with a suitable spray primer.
- If you are applying this gloss varnish over FullDip liquid vinyl, wait at least 24 hours since the last coat of colour vinyl before starting.
- Shake the can vigorously for at least 1 minute before use.
- Apply at an ambient temperature between 5 °C and 35 °C, avoiding high humidity.
- Hold the spray about 20–30 cm from the surface and apply thin, even coats with continuous movements, without stopping the spray on one spot.
- Allow to dry for a minimum of 10 minutes between coats before applying the next one.
- Apply a minimum of 4 coats to achieve optimal coverage, gloss and protection.
- Allow to fully dry for 24 hours before handling the piece or putting it to use.
Usage tips
Surface preparation
The final result depends greatly on prior preparation. On EVA foam, clean the piece thoroughly and remove any adhesive residue or dust. If you want a smoother finish, lightly sand the surface with fine-grit sandpaper before applying the spray. On other plastics, degrease with isopropyl alcohol and allow it to evaporate completely before starting.
Spray application technique
The key to an even finish is distance and movement. Keep the can moving constantly and do not bring it too close: a coat that is too thick can cause runs and reduce flexibility. It is better to apply several thin coats than to try to cover in one go. If the nozzle becomes blocked, turn the can upside down and press briefly to clear the channel.
Combining with other FullDip products
The gloss varnish in this range acts as a topcoat and protection layer over any colour in the FullDip line, both the solid colours range and the Military range. Always apply it as the last coat, once the base vinyl is fully cured (24 h). Do not apply it over surfaces that are still soft or tacky.
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply the gloss varnish directly without colour vinyl coats underneath?
Yes, you can use it directly on the surface if you simply want to protect and add gloss without changing the original colour of the material. In that case, make sure the surface is clean and prepared, and still apply a minimum of 4 thin coats for adequate protection.
Does the finish crack or peel on EVA foam?
No. One of the main advantages of FullDip Liquid Vinyl Gloss is precisely its flexibility once cured. Unlike some rigid varnishes, this liquid vinyl adapts to the movements and bends of EVA foam without cracking, making it ideal for armatures, accessories and cosplay pieces that are handled frequently.
How long should I wait between coats?
The minimum time between coats is 10 minutes under normal temperature conditions (between 5 °C and 35 °C). If ambient humidity is high or the temperature is at the lower end of the range, it is advisable to wait a little longer before applying the next coat to ensure good adhesion between them.
How many coats are needed for a good result?
A minimum of 4 thin, even coats is recommended. With fewer coats the finish may be uneven and protection insufficient. For special finishes or very porous surfaces, you can increase the number of coats without any problem.
Is it water resistant once dry?
Yes, once fully cured (24 hours), FullDip Liquid Vinyl Gloss offers water resistance. However, it is not formulated for prolonged immersion. For occasional outdoor use or pieces that may get wet, apply the recommended minimum of 4 coats and make sure curing is complete.
At what temperature can it be applied?
The recommended application range is 5 °C to 35 °C. Below 5 °C drying slows down considerably and the result may be affected. Above 35 °C the product may dry too quickly before spreading properly, creating an uneven texture.
Can it be applied on surfaces other than EVA foam?
Yes. Although it is especially popular in projects with EVA foam, it also works on plastics, painted wood, treated cardboard and other surfaces compatible with acrylic paints and varnishes. Always do a test on a small area before applying to the whole piece.
Can it be combined with other finishes from the FullDip range?
Yes. The gloss and special varnish is designed to be the final coat over any vinyl in the FullDip range, including solid colours and the Military range. Always apply it as the last coat with the base vinyl fully cured.
