The RD-407 Masking Latex Halloween White is a highest-quality casting latex, specifically formulated for working in plaster moulds. Based on a single-component natural latex, it cures by air drying with no additional vulcanisation required, builds up skin quickly and reproduces detail with precision. It is the reference tool for mask makers, props and prosthetics manufacturers worldwide, and comes pre-coloured in Halloween White to save time on pigmentation.

What it is used for

The RD-407 Halloween White is designed for the manufacture of masks and special effects elements in rigid moulds. Its white pre-colouring eliminates most of the base pigmentation work, making it especially popular in horror productions and Halloween characterisation.

  • Manufacture of full masks in plaster moulds
  • Production of props and decorative rubber elements
  • Prosthetics and characterisation pieces on mould (not directly on skin)
  • Creation of elastic prop pieces for theatre, film and events
  • Duplication of volumes with fine detail in plaster moulds

How to use it

  1. Prepare the plaster mould clean and completely dry. The plaster must be 100% cured; residual moisture prolongs curing and damages the piece.
  2. Gently shake the RD-407 container to homogenise the material. Avoid vigorous stirring to prevent incorporating air bubbles.
  3. Pour the latex into the mould or apply it with a brush in uniform layers, covering all details thoroughly.
  4. Allow to dry at room temperature until the surface loses its milky appearance and becomes translucent. Time varies depending on layer thickness and ambient temperature.
  5. Repeat the pouring or brushing process to build up the desired thickness. For masks, several layers are usually required.
  6. Once the piece is completely dry and firm, demould carefully by stretching the latex from the edges inward.
  7. If you want a glossy finish, apply Flex Gloss as a final coating.
  8. Paint the finished piece with Mask Paint, the paint specifically formulated for latex, to achieve professional and long-lasting finishes.
Warning — Safety information: RD-407 contains natural latex and an ammonia source. Do not apply directly on skin. May cause allergic reactions in latex-sensitive individuals. Work in a well-ventilated space. Wear nitrile gloves and eye protection during handling. In case of accidental skin contact, wash thoroughly with soap and water.

Usage tips

The plaster mould — key to the result

The RD-407 is formulated to work dry with medium-to-high hardness plasters. If you use a high-resistance plaster, you will get greater mould durability and cleaner demoulding. Make sure the mould has had at least 24–48 hours of complete drying before introducing the latex; any internal moisture will slow curing and inhibit correct skin formation.

Thickness and layer control

For real-use masks, it is common to build up between 4 and 8 layers, letting each one dry before adding the next. Thin layers dry faster and give greater control over the final thickness. If you want stiffer areas (nose, forehead), add extra layers in those zones before demoulding. For lightweight props or decorative pieces, 2–3 layers are usually sufficient.

Temperature, ventilation and storage

Latex cures best between 18 °C and 25 °C with good air circulation. Moderate heat (never a direct heat source) can accelerate the process. Do not expose the material to temperatures below 0 °C, as latex deteriorates irreversibly when frozen. Store the container tightly closed, in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Before each use, check that no skin has formed on the surface; if there is, remove it without mixing it into the rest of the material.

Frequently asked questions

Does this latex require any vulcanisation or special curing process?

No. The RD-407 is a single-component pre-vulcanised latex. It cures solely by evaporation of water in ambient air, with no need for heat, catalysts or any additional process. You only need to ensure good ventilation and wait for each layer to dry completely.

Can it be used in moulds other than plaster?

It is formulated and optimised for plaster moulds, which absorb the moisture from the latex and promote skin build-up. It can be attempted in other rigid and porous moulds, but behaviour may vary. It is not suitable for silicone moulds or impermeable surfaces, as water evaporation is blocked and curing does not occur correctly.

How many layers are needed for a complete mask?

For a real-use mask with sufficient resistance to be put on and taken off repeatedly, it is common to apply between 4 and 8 layers, letting each one dry before adding the next. The exact number depends on layer thickness, piece size and the desired level of resistance.

What should be used to paint the latex once demoulded?

Conventional paints do not adhere well to flexible latex. For professional and long-lasting finishes, the correct choice is Mask Paint, a paint specifically formulated for latex surfaces that maintains the flexibility of the piece without cracking.

Can it be applied directly on skin as special effects makeup?

No. The RD-407 is not formulated for direct use on skin. If you need latex for skin effects, check our specific range of liquid latex for moulds or characterisation products designed for that purpose.

What is the difference between this version and the Flesh Tone version?

The only difference is the pre-incorporated base colour. The RD-407 Flesh Tone has a base flesh tone, designed for realistic character masks. The RD-407 Halloween White comes pre-coloured in white, originally formulated for Halloween-style horror masks, saving time on base pigmentation for pale or monster masks.

How long does each layer take to dry?

It depends on temperature, ambient humidity and layer thickness. Under normal conditions (20–22 °C, good ventilation), a thin layer can dry in 20–40 minutes. Thicker layers or high humidity conditions may require several hours. The layer is ready when it completely loses its milky appearance and becomes translucent or takes on its final pre-coloured colour.

Can latex pieces be given a glossy finish?

Yes. Once the piece is painted and finished, you can apply Flex Gloss as a final coating to achieve a glossy finish that maintains the flexibility of the latex without cracking.
