EVA AIR professional Foam Clay for cosplay. Air-dries in 24–48 h, ultralight and flexible. Sand, cut and paint without cracking. 300 g.

EVA AIR is an ultralight, mouldable EVA foam clay formulated for professional cosplayers and makers who need to finish armatures, props and accessories with precision and minimal weight. Air-dries without an oven, retains slight flexibility after curing, and bonds directly to EVA foam sheets, foam and thermoplastics. Available in white, grey and black in 300 g containers.

What it is used for

EVA AIR is designed for cosplay and special effects work where you need to add volume, texture or detail to EVA structures without adding excess weight or rigidity. It is especially useful for finishing pieces where hand modelling or tool work is more practical than working directly with foam sheets.

  • Filigree, engravings and relief details on cosplay armatures
  • Modelling horns, gems, grips and pauldrons
  • Sealing and filling joints and seams on large EVA pieces
  • Creating lightweight props for conventions and photography
  • Textured finishes on thermoplastics such as Worbla
  • Repetitive pieces using silicone moulds
  • Decorative details on helmets, shields and pauldrons

How to use it

  1. Knead the required amount by hand until you achieve a smooth, uniform texture. Body heat softens the material within a few minutes.
  2. Sculpt freehand, use sculpting tools, or fill silicone moulds to produce repetitive pieces.
  3. If you are applying it to EVA foam sheets, lightly roughen the surface with coarse sandpaper to improve adhesion.
  4. Apply EVA AIR to the desired area, seal joints, or model the detail directly onto the piece.
  5. Allow to air-dry for 24–48 h. For pieces thicker than 1 cm, turn the piece every 12 h to ensure even drying.
  6. Once dry, sand with fine-grit sandpaper to refine the surface if needed.
  7. Prime with a flexible primer and paint with flexible acrylics for a professional finish without cracking.

Usage tips

Temperature and softening

In cold environments EVA AIR may feel somewhat firmer when taken out of the container. Rub it between your palms for 1–2 minutes, or place the sealed container in warm water for a few minutes before working. Do not expose it to direct heat (heat gun, oven) before modelling: it will cure prematurely on the surface.

Even drying of thick pieces

Pieces thicker than 8–10 mm may develop surface micro-cracks if they dry too quickly on one side. Turn the piece every 12 hours and avoid strong draughts or direct heat sources during the first 24 hours. If a minor crack appears, lightly dampen the surface with water and smooth it with your finger before it finishes curing.

Painting and finishing

EVA AIR accepts acrylic primers and water-based paints without issue. For pieces that will bend or flex in use, always use paints and lacquers formulated for flexible substrates; rigid paints tend to crack at flex points. For a very smooth finish, sand with 220–400 grit sandpaper between primer coats.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to dry completely?

EVA AIR air-dries in 24–48 hours depending on the thickness of the piece and environmental conditions (temperature and humidity). Thin pieces under 5 mm may be ready in 24 h; bulkier pieces need the full 48 h. During the process it is advisable to turn thick pieces every 12 hours for even drying.

Can it be used outdoors or on pieces that will get wet?

EVA AIR is formulated for workshop use and indoor events. Although it is reasonably resistant after curing, it is not designed for prolonged immersion or continuous exposure to rain. For outdoor pieces, apply several coats of flexible varnish or lacquer to seal the surface.

Can leftover material be stored?

Yes. Seal the container tightly after each use and store in a cool place away from direct sunlight. If the surface has dried slightly, dampen the material with a few drops of water and knead again until you restore the original texture. Do not leave EVA AIR exposed to the air longer than necessary during work.

Is it compatible with silicone moulds?

Yes, EVA AIR works very well with silicone moulds for producing repetitive pieces: gems, buttons, medallions, ornaments. Press the material firmly into the mould, smooth the back with a damp spatula, and leave to dry. Being flexible, it demoulds cleanly in most shapes.

Can it be sanded and milled like conventional EVA foam?

Yes. Once cured, EVA AIR can be sanded with standard sandpaper (start with coarse grit and finish with fine grit to smooth) and worked with rotary tools and burrs without chipping or cracking, just like high-density EVA foam sheets.

Which paints are compatible?

EVA AIR accepts water-based acrylic paints applied by brush or airbrush. To preserve the flexibility of the finished piece, use paints and lacquers formulated for flexible substrates. Rigid paints or those with aggressive solvent bases may crack over time at flex points.

Does it bond directly to EVA foam without adhesive?

Yes, one of the main advantages of EVA AIR is that it bonds directly to EVA foam sheets without the need for additional adhesive, as long as the surface is clean and lightly roughened. For extra security on structural joints, you can apply a small amount of flexible contact adhesive before applying the material.

Is it suitable for children or inexperienced users?

EVA AIR is non-toxic and has no strong odour, making it safe in well-ventilated workshop environments. That said, it is a professional material aimed at cosplayers and makers. For inexperienced users, the modelling technique is straightforward: knead, shape and leave to dry — no complex steps or component mixing required.
