EASYGEL Silk Cast is a platinum silicone specifically formulated to be applied directly onto skin to obtain high-definition moulds of faces, hands, feet and any body area. Its 1:1 mix ratio by weight or volume, fast cure and self-releasing properties from hair make it the most efficient tool for professional Life Casting and special effects.

What it is used for

EASYGEL Silk Cast is designed for any application where you need to capture precise detail directly on human skin. Unlike alginate, the resulting mould is durable, allows multiple reproductions and is compatible with a wide variety of casting materials.

  • Full face moulds for special effects and FX prosthetics
  • Life Casting of hands, feet, torso and other body areas
  • Impression taking for anaplastological prosthetics (nipples, ears, noses)
  • Moulds for reborn baby replicas
  • Capture of fine textures: pores, wrinkles, fingerprints
  • Base for manufacturing encapsulated silicone prosthetics in FX
  • Medical simulation moulds and surgical training pads
  • Human body replicas for artistic installations or sculptures

How to use it

  1. Model preparation: make sure the skin area is clean and dry. It is not necessary to apply a release agent on hairy areas; on hair-free areas with closed structures (e.g. interlocked fingers) a thin layer of Ferosil V 32 may be applied as a precaution.
  2. Mixing: combine components A and B in a 1:1 ratio by weight or volume. Mix thoroughly for at least 60 seconds, scraping the sides and bottom of the container well.
  3. Application: apply the mixture directly onto the area to be moulded using a spatula or gloved hand. Work quickly: the working time is approximately 6 minutes.
  4. Support mother mould: while the silicone is still fresh, reinforce the outside with plaster bandages to create a rigid shell that holds the shape of the mould.
  5. Curing: wait 20-25 minutes for full cure. Do not move the mould during this time.
  6. Demoulding: carefully remove the mother mould and then the silicone. Thanks to its self-releasing properties, it detaches from hair without pulling or pain for the model.
  7. Casting: the mould is now ready to cast plaster, wax, polyurethane resins, acrylic resins or low-melting-point metals.
Warning — Cure inhibition (platinum silicone): EASYGEL Silk Cast is a platinum (addition cure) silicone. The platinum catalyst can be inhibited by contact with certain substances, preventing full or partial curing. Avoid contact with: sulphur-containing plasticines, latex, cyanoacrylate adhesives, vinyl gloves, tin residues and some unsealed porous organic materials. If you have doubts about the compatibility of a substrate, always carry out a small adhesion/cure test before the full application.

Usage tips

Plan your working time

With only 6 minutes of working time, it is essential to have everything prepared before mixing: container, spatula, gloves, pre-cut plaster bandages and the model already positioned. If the area to be moulded is large (a full torso, for example), consider dividing the application into sections or working with an assistant.

The mother mould is essential

The silicone on its own is flexible and does not hold its three-dimensional shape once removed from the body. Always reinforce the outside with plaster bandages applied directly onto the fresh silicone. The mother mould acts as a rigid shell and ensures that reproductions are faithful to the original with every casting.

Real advantages over alginate

Alginate is a valid option for quick, single-use impressions, but EASYGEL Silk Cast offers clear advantages when the project demands it: the mould keeps for months or years without degrading, allows a high number of copies from the same negative and is compatible with casting materials that attack or dissolve alginate (such as certain resins). If you need to repeat the same piece or work with special materials, silicone is the right choice.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to apply this silicone directly onto skin without a release agent?

Yes. EASYGEL Silk Cast is formulated and certified for direct contact with human skin. It is also self-releasing from hair, so you do not need to apply petroleum jelly or any release agent on areas with beard, eyebrows, eyelashes or body hair. Only in very closed hair-free structures may a thin layer of release agent be advisable as a precautionary measure.

How long do I have to apply the mixture before it starts to cure?

The working time of EASYGEL Silk Cast is approximately 6 minutes from the moment you finish mixing the two components. After that time, the silicone begins to lose flowability and becomes difficult to spread evenly. Prepare all your materials before starting to mix and work swiftly.

How many reproductions can the mould withstand?

Unlike alginate, which deteriorates rapidly after one or a few castings, a well-maintained EASYGEL Silk Cast mould can produce a very high number of reproductions. Durability depends on the material you cast: plasters and waxes are very gentle on the mould; some polyurethane or polyester resins may degrade it sooner if no release agent is used between castings.

What materials can I cast into the mould?

EASYGEL Silk Cast is compatible with plaster, wax, polyurethane resins, acrylic resins, polyester resins and low-melting-point metals. For each casting, apply a suitable release agent to facilitate demoulding and extend the life of the mould. Remember that platinum silicones can be inhibited by contact with tin, so if you use resins catalysed with tin compounds, check compatibility first.

Do I need a precision scale to mix the components?

No. The mix ratio of EASYGEL Silk Cast is 1:1 both by weight and by volume, which means it can be measured with graduated cups without the need for a precision scale. That said, the more accurate the measurement, the more uniform the cure will be. In professional projects, a basic kitchen scale is sufficient and improves consistency of results.

Can I use this silicone to make anaplastological or FX prosthetics?

EASYGEL Silk Cast is used in the impression-taking stage: it gives you the negative mould of the area to be replicated (for example, a nipple, an ear or a facial area). The prosthesis itself is then made by casting a platinum silicone of appropriate hardness into that mould, such as those from the PlatSil Gel range, with very low Shore values (A0020, A0030) for maximum realism and comfort. The edges are blended with an encapsulant and painted with silicone-specific pigments.

What is the difference between this silicone and alginate for body moulds?

Alginate sets in minutes and is very convenient for quick impressions, but the mould deteriorates within a few hours due to dehydration and is only suitable for one or very few copies. EASYGEL Silk Cast provides a durable mould, compatible with more casting materials, reusable many times over and with better long-term definition. The trade-off is a higher cost and the need for a rigid support mother mould.

How should I store unused components?

Keep the containers tightly closed, in a cool, dry place away from heat sources and direct sunlight. Prevent moisture from entering the containers, as it can affect the cure of the platinum silicone. Always observe the expiry date indicated on the packaging. Do not mix leftovers from different batches without first verifying that the ratios and characteristics are identical.
