What it's used for
It is the go-to product in professional makeup departments when full skin coverage is required. With 5 mixable tones, it allows you to customise the exact colour for each skin type.
- Covering tattoos on set, during performances or in photography
- Correcting scars, blemishes, birthmarks and skin discolouration
- Evening out skin tone in areas with visible anomalies
- Long-lasting corrective makeup outdoors or under heat lights
- Aesthetic correction on face and neck for film, television and theatre
- Camouflage under demanding conditions: swimming, intense heat, physical exertion
How to use it
- Cleanse and thoroughly dry the area of skin where you will apply the product. The skin must be free of oils, moisturisers or creams.
- Warm a small amount of cream by placing it on the back of your hand. Body heat softens the formula and makes for a more even, covering application.
- Mix the tones from the palette directly on the back of your hand until you achieve the exact shade that matches the model's skin colour.
- Apply the cream with a latex sponge or fingertips using small dabbing motions, without dragging. Work in thin layers until the desired level of coverage is reached.
- Once coverage is achieved, set the makeup with a Dermacolor Fixing Spray at a distance of approximately 30 cm. This activates water resistance and UV protection.
- Allow the setting spray to dry completely before the skin comes into contact with water or sweat.
Usage tips
Body temperature — the key to a good result
Dermacolor's grease formula is sensitive to heat. If you try to apply it directly from the palette without warming it first, coverage will be less even and the product harder to spread. Always warm a small amount on the back of your hand for a few seconds before transferring it to the skin.
Mixing tones for a custom skin match
One of the main strengths of the 5-colour palette is precisely the ability to mix. Never apply a single tone directly to the skin: natural human skin tones are a combination of several shades. Work the mixes on the back of your hand until the colour matches the uncorrected skin area exactly. Apply in thin layers and build coverage gradually.
Setting: an essential step on set
Without setting spray, grease makeup transfers with friction and does not hold up against sweat. On a film set or during a performance, this is a critical problem. The Fixing Spray activates water resistance and ensures the camouflage holds throughout the entire day. If localised deterioration occurs at any point, pat gently with a clean dry sponge to reactivate the area without having to redo all the work.
Frequently asked questions
Is this type of camouflage makeup safe for sensitive skin?
Dermacolor Camouflage Creme is formulated without fragrance, which reduces the risk of irritation on reactive skin. It is a line designed for extended professional use on set and during performances. Even so, as with any cosmetic, a patch test on a small area of skin is recommended before extensive application, especially for people with known allergies to cosmetic ingredients.
How many layers are needed to cover a brightly coloured tattoo?
It depends on the saturation of the tattoo. On tattoos with very dark or highly saturated inks, two or three thin layers may be needed, waiting a few seconds between each one and setting at the end. The advantage of Dermacolor is its high pigmentation, so generally two well-applied layers are sufficient even over tattoos with intense colours.
Can it be used on the body or only on the face?
Dermacolor Camouflage Creme is specifically formulated for the skin of the face and neck, although it can be used on other areas of the body with less sensitive skin. For large body areas, bear in mind that you will need more product and that setting is equally necessary to ensure durability.
How is this makeup removed?
As it is a grease-based formula, water alone is not sufficient to remove it, especially once set. It is recommended to use a cleansing oil, a bi-phase makeup remover or a specific remover for theatre makeup. Apply the remover with a cotton pad and remove with gentle motions without rubbing excessively.
Can the colours in the palette be mixed together?
Yes, the 5 shades of Dermacolor Camouflage Creme Quinteto are designed to be mixed. You can freely combine them on the back of your hand to obtain the exact tone you need. This is one of the main advantages of the palette format over individual pots.
Is it water-resistant without setting spray?
No. Without setting spray, grease makeup transfers with sweat and contact. Water resistance is activated only after applying the specific setting spray. Once properly set, it withstands demanding conditions such as swimming, heat from lights or physical exertion during a full shoot day.
What is the difference between the Quinteto format and individual colours?
The quinteto offers 5 tones in a single compact palette, designed for professionals who need the flexibility to adapt the tone to different models or lighting conditions. Individual pots are more suitable when you already know the exact shade you need and use large quantities of the same colour.
Which colour palettes complement this product for more elaborate special effects?
If you need to expand the colour range for more complex effects, you can combine Dermacolor with alcohol-based SFX palettes such as the Skin Illustrator FX Palette for wound, bruise and injury textures, or the Skin Illustrator Complexion Palette for working skin tone shades with greater precision.
