Spirit Gum Remover and Thinner is the professional solvent designed to effectively remove Spirit Gum adhesive and Mastix after character makeup sessions in theatre, film and FX makeup. Its formula dissolves adhesive residue without irritating the skin or damaging hairpieces, prosthetics or wigs, and also acts as a thinner to adjust adhesive viscosity when needed. Available in 50 ml.

What it's used for
It is the go-to cleaning product for any professional or advanced hobbyist working with resin-based adhesives in character makeup. Its most common uses are:
- Removing Spirit Gum and Mastix from skin after applying false beards, moustaches and sideburns
- Eliminating adhesive residue from wigs, frontals and foam latex or silicone prosthetics
- Dissolving adhesive residue from tools, brushes and work surfaces
- Thinning Spirit Gum or Mastix when viscosity has increased due to solvent evaporation
- Cleaning the edges of prosthetics and hairpieces before storage, extending their lifespan
How to use it
- Soak a cotton pad or cotton swab with a small amount of remover.
- Apply it directly to the area where the adhesive is located, letting it sit for a few seconds to penetrate and soften the glue.
- Rub gently in circular motions until the adhesive is completely dissolved.
- Remove residue with a clean cotton pad. Repeat if any residue remains.
- Clean the skin with water and mild soap to remove any trace of solvent.
- Finish by moisturising the area to restore the skin barrier.
- To thin the adhesive, add a few drops directly into the Spirit Gum or Mastix bottle and mix well before use.
Warning: For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. In case of eye contact, rinse with plenty of clean water. Use in well-ventilated areas. Do not ingest. Keep out of reach of children. Flammable: keep away from heat sources and open flames.
Usage tips
Start at the edges, not the centre
When removing a hairpiece bonded with Spirit Gum or Mastix, apply the remover along the outer edges of the prosthetic, not at the centre. Allow the solvent to penetrate under the edge and gradually lift the hairpiece with your fingers while continuing to apply product. This prevents tearing both the skin and the hairpiece.
Use it to clean brushes and tools too
Adhesive application brushes tend to stiffen quickly. Soak them in a little remover for a few minutes and clean the bristles with a cloth. Keeping brushes clean extends their lifespan and ensures more precise applications in every session.
When thinning, add little by little
If the adhesive has thickened, add the thinner drop by drop and mix between each addition. Adding too much at once can make the adhesive excessively fluid and reduce its bonding strength. The correct ratio depends on how much it has thickened; always start with the minimum amount needed.

Yes, it can be used on most skin types, although on very sensitive or reactive skin it is recommended to perform a patch test on a small area before applying it to larger areas. Always rub gently and finish with a moisturising cream to restore the skin barrier.
Does it also work for removing other character makeup adhesives besides Spirit Gum and Mastix?
It is optimised for resin-based adhesives of the Spirit Gum and Mastix type. For medical silicone adhesives or silicone transfer adhesives, there are specific removers such as Telesis Silicone Remover. For body makeup or FX paints, Isopropyl Myristate is the best option.
Does it damage foam latex hairpieces or silicone prosthetics when used to clean them?
It does not damage foam latex hairpieces as long as it is applied sparingly and removed quickly. On silicone prosthetics, test first on an inconspicuous area, as some prosthetics painted with solvent-based pigments may be affected by prolonged exposure. For cleaning silicone prosthetics, Telesis Silicone Remover is the safest option.
How do I know how much thinner to add to thickened adhesive?
Add the remover drop by drop and test the adhesive consistency between each addition. The goal is to restore its original fluidity, not to make it very thin. An overly thinned adhesive loses bonding strength. Always start with the smallest amount possible.
Is it necessary to wash the skin after applying the remover?
