PTM Pink 5 is the industry-standard prosthetic transfer material in special effects makeup. Formulated by Christien Tinsley, the creator of the original process, this specific pink shade provides a realistic dermal undertone that makes any makeup applied over the transfer look natural and healthy. Compatible with nearly all caucasian and dark skin tones, it has become the standard color in most professional workshops and production sets.

What it's used for
PTM Pink 5 is designed for creating high-quality prosthetic transfers directly from the bottle, with no mixing or complex preparation required. Its primary use is special effects makeup in film, television and theatre, where a convincing and long-lasting dermal finish is needed.
- Creating Bondo Transfers, Pro-Bondo Transfers and Pros Aide Transfers
- Facial and body prosthetic transfers in audiovisual productions
- Character makeup for roles requiring realistic skin
- Aging prosthetics, wounds and character transformations
- Applications on light, medium and dark skin tones thanks to its neutral-pink undertone
- Work where a natural subdermal glow is a quality requirement
How to use it
- Clean and degrease the skin area or support surface where the transfer will be applied.
- Apply an even layer of PTM Pink 5 directly from the bottle onto the transfer paper or working surface.
- Allow the layer to dry completely before applying additional layers if you need more body or coverage.
- Repeat the layering process until you achieve the desired thickness and opacity in the transfer.
- Once ready, carefully peel the transfer from the support and position it on the skin.
- Secure the transfer with the appropriate adhesive (Pros Aide, Bondo or another compatible adhesive) and seal the edges to blend it with the skin.
- Apply makeup over the placed transfer to achieve the desired final finish.
Tips for use
Work in thin layers
Apply PTM Pink 5 in thin coats and allow each one to dry before adding the next. Thick layers take longer to dry, can create bubbles and make it harder to control the final thickness of the transfer. Three or four thin layers always give better results than two thick ones.
Control the ambient temperature
PTM dries by evaporation. In cold or humid environments, drying slows down considerably. Work at a stable room temperature (between 18 and 25 °C) and avoid direct air currents over the piece while intermediate layers are drying, as these can create surface irregularities.
Combine it with other PTM versions to adjust the tone
If you need to fine-tune the tone for very light skin, combine PTM Pink 5 with PTM Light Flesh, or with PTM Clear to reduce the color intensity while maintaining the transfer texture. This flexibility lets you adapt the undertone without losing the material's properties.
Frequently asked questions
Does the material need to be mixed with other components before use?
No. PTM Pink 5 is ready to use straight from the bottle. It does not require mixing with catalysts or thinners for standard use. You can combine it with other PTM versions if you want to adjust the tone, but this is not a mandatory step.
What type of adhesive is compatible with transfers made with this material?
PTM Pink 5 is compatible with the industry-standard prosthetic adhesives: Pros Aide, Bondo and Pro-Bondo. The choice of adhesive will depend on the type of transfer you have created and the conditions of use (perspiration, length of the working day, skin type).
Does it work well on all skin tones?
PTM Pink 5 is specially designed for caucasian tones and most dark tones. Its pink undertone provides a realistic subdermal glow that integrates well across a wide range of skin types. For very dark tones, it may be worth considering other shades from the PTM range or combining with PTM Clear to adjust the intensity.
How many layers are needed for a functional transfer?
The number of layers depends on the thickness and durability you need. For thin, delicate transfers, two or three layers may be sufficient. For pieces that need to withstand more handling or last longer on skin, four to six layers applied patiently, allowing each one to dry completely, are recommended.
Can I use regular paper to make the transfers?
This is not recommended. For professional-quality results, use the specific transfer paper, which is formulated to allow clean separation of the transfer without damaging or distorting it.
How do you clean the material from tools and surfaces?
Clean tools and surfaces immediately after use, before the PTM dries completely. Dry material can be removed mechanically by peeling it off, but this is more laborious. Use soap and water or isopropyl alcohol to remove fresh residue.
Can makeup be applied over the transfer once it has been placed on the skin?
Yes. One of the advantages of PTM Pink 5 is precisely that it acts as a base for makeup. The pink tone of the material complements and enriches any makeup applied over it, providing that dermal undertone that makes the prosthetic look like real skin under light.
Does it have a shelf life or require special storage conditions?
Like most materials of this type, PTM Pink 5 should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the bottle tightly closed after each use to prevent the material from drying out inside the container. Check the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
