What it is used for
FullDip Camaleón is designed to visually transform any rigid or flexible surface with an iridescent finish that shifts colour with light. It is especially popular in cosplay, customisation and decoration projects where visual impact is the priority.
- Painting helmets, bodywork and vehicle parts (cars, motorbikes, bicycles)
- Customising EVA foam pieces for cosplay and costumes
- Finishing armours, swords and props for cosplay or special effects
- Decorating design objects, accessories and add-ons
- Craft projects where flexibility and a chromatic effect are required
- Temporary colour change on surfaces that will later be peeled or renewed
How to use it
- Clean and degrease the surface to be treated. It must be dry, free of dust and dirt.
- Apply 3 coats of FullDip Black (Solid Colours) as the mandatory base. Without this base, the chameleon effect will not develop correctly. Allow 10 minutes drying time between each coat.
- Shake the FullDip Camaleón can thoroughly for at least 2 minutes before use.
- Apply the first chameleon coat at a distance of 25–30 cm, using smooth, even strokes without stopping over the same area.
- Allow 10 minutes drying time between each coat.
- Apply a minimum of 6 coats to achieve full coverage and the chameleon effect at its best.
- Allow to dry for 24 hours before handling or exposing the piece to use conditions.
Usage tips
The black base is essential
The chameleon pigment only shows its colour-shifting effect over black. If you apply the spray directly over another base or over an unprepared piece, the result will be flat and lifeless. Always apply a minimum of 3 prior black coats and make sure they are completely dry before starting with the chameleon.
Thin, even coats — always
The temptation to apply thick coats to gain coverage quickly is the most common mistake. Thick coats cause drips, areas of uneven gloss and poor drying. Apply very thin, light coats, wait the 10 minutes between them and build up the required number. The final result will be far more uniform and the iridescent effect will show at full intensity.
Temperature and humidity
Always apply within the range of 5 °C to 35 °C. Below this temperature the vinyl does not flow correctly and atomisation is poor. Above it, the product may dry too quickly and leave an orange-peel texture. Also avoid applying in very high ambient humidity or under intense direct sunlight, as both factors affect drying between coats.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I need a black base before applying the chameleon colour?
The iridescent pigment that creates the chameleon effect only reflects its colour changes when there is a dark background that absorbs light. Without a black base, the light does not behave correctly and the effect is completely lost. With FullDip Camaleón, always apply 3 prior black coats so the result is spectacular.
How many coats do I need for a good result?
A minimum of 6 coats of FullDip Camaleón over the black base is recommended. With fewer coats coverage is uneven and the colour shift is not as noticeable. Always allow 10 minutes between each coat.
Can it be applied over EVA foam?
Yes. FullDip Camaleón bonds perfectly to EVA foam surfaces, maintaining the flexibility of the material without cracking. It is one of the most widely used options in cosplay for creating spectacular finishes on foam armours and props. Prepare the surface properly and follow the prior black base process.
Is a primer needed before applying the vinyl?
On smooth, metallic or highly porous surfaces it may be advisable to use a spray primer to improve adhesion before the black base. On EVA foam and textured plastics it is generally not necessary, but always degrease the surface thoroughly.
Can FullDip be removed once dry?
Yes. One of the advantages of FullDip liquid vinyl is that, once fully cured (24 hours), it can be peeled off smooth surfaces without damaging them. On porous or textured surfaces removal may be more laborious.
How long should I wait between coats?
The waiting time between coats is 10 minutes under normal temperature conditions (between 5 °C and 35 °C). Respecting this time is essential to prevent coats from blending together or causing bubbles and drips.
Does the chameleon finish resist weathering and water?
FullDip Camaleón has high UV and water resistance, making it suitable for outdoor use. However, for optimal long-term protection on pieces that are continuously exposed, it is advisable to apply a topcoat varnish over the vinyl layers.
How does it differ from FullDip solid colours?
FullDip Solid Colours provide a smooth, uniform flat-colour finish. FullDip Camaleón uses an iridescent pigment that shifts colour depending on the viewing angle and light intensity, creating a dynamic and highly eye-catching visual effect. In addition, the chameleon always requires a prior black base, whereas the solid colours can be applied directly.
