What it is used for

The Venous Medium tone reproduces the colouration of venous blood, darker and denser than arterial blood, ideal for simulating medium-depth wounds, visible internal haemorrhages and sustained bleeding effects. It is applied directly onto skin, silicone or latex prosthetics, and fabrics.

  • Fresh open wounds or wounds in the process of clotting
  • Drips and trickles on skin and prosthetics
  • Stains and spatters on clothing, surfaces and props
  • Continuous bleeding effects on set (does not dry under lights)
  • Theatre, film and television character work
  • Special effects in photography and music videos
  • Combining with wound prosthetics for integrated results

How to use it

  1. Shake the container well before use to homogenise the texture and colour.
  2. Apply directly onto clean skin or onto the prosthetic already placed and made up.
  3. For drips, tilt the container or use a fine brush and let small amounts fall from the origin point of the wound.
  4. For stains and spatters, flick with a finger or a stiff-bristle brush from a distance of 10–30 cm.
  5. Adjust the amount applied according to the desired effect: more volume for active bleeding, less for a recently dried effect.
  6. If you need greater viscosity to keep the blood in specific areas, apply successive layers leaving a few seconds between each one.
  7. To remove from skin, wash with soap and water. For fabrics, machine wash at 40 °C with detergent. Always do a prior test on delicate fabrics.

Usage tips

Controlling drip and viscosity

Venous Medium Blood has a medium-low viscosity that favours natural drips. If you need it to stay more static (inside a raised wound, for example), mix with a small amount of Pasta Fleet Street Blood to increase body without losing the gloss.

Combining tones for greater realism

The Venous Medium tone is the most versatile in the range. Mix it with a few drops of Arterial Bright Blood to simulate a fresh active wound, or blend with Aged Dark Blood to age the effect and give a clotted appearance. Always test the mix on paper before applying to the performer.

Working on silicone prosthetics

On silicone skin prosthetics, the blood flows very naturally. To anchor it in specific areas without running, pre-dry the area with absorbent paper and apply the blood in thin layers. If the prosthetic has an open texture (such as a raised wound type), the blood fills the volumes in a very realistic way without needing a brush.

Frequently asked questions

Is this blood suitable for direct application on skin?

Yes. Clink St FX Venous Medium Blood is formulated for direct use on skin. It does not irritate and is easily removed with soap and water. As with any character makeup product, it is advisable to carry out a patch test on a small area before extensive application, especially on sensitive skin.

Does it dry out and crack over time or under lights?

No. Unlike other artificial bloods on the market, Venous Medium Blood does not dry out. It maintains a wet and glossy appearance throughout the entire shoot or performance, even under intense heat lights. This makes it especially useful for long takes or live performances.

Does it permanently stain clothing?

Not permanently on most fabrics. It washes off skin with soapy water and out of fabrics in a machine at 40 °C with detergent. It is advisable to wash as soon as possible after the session. Always do a prior test on delicate or light-coloured fabrics before the session.

What is the difference between the three tones in the range?

The Clink St FX range offers three tones for different moments of the effect: Arterial Bright is the brightest and most vivid red, ideal for impact wounds or active arterial bleeding; Venous Medium has a darker tone and is the most versatile for open wounds in general; Aged Dark is the darkest, perfect for simulating clotted blood, old wounds or death effects.

Can it be mixed with other artificial bloods?

Yes. Venous Medium Blood is miscible with the other tones in the Clink St FX range and is also compatible with Pasta Fleet Street Blood to increase viscosity. It is advisable to do mixing tests before the session to control the final tone and texture.

Is it suitable for use on silicone and latex prosthetics?

Yes. It adheres well to silicone and latex surfaces without altering or lifting the material. It flows naturally over the raised textures of wound prosthetics, filling the volumes in a very realistic way.

How is the product stored once opened?

Close the container tightly after each use and store in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Shake before each use to homogenise the colour and texture. Do not freeze.

Is it suitable for spatter effects and action scenes?

Yes. The low viscosity of Venous Medium Blood makes it ideal for generating realistic spatters. You can apply it with a stiff-bristle brush, syringe, or simply by shaking it from the container at different distances to obtain spatter patterns of varying scale.
