What it is used for
Designed for professional FX makeup artists, Arterial Bright Blood by Clink ST is the ideal choice when you need a fresh, glossy and high visual-impact haemorrhage effect. Its fluidity makes it easy to recreate drips, arterial spurts, splatter and stains with total naturalism.
- Fresh wounds and recent cuts on prosthetics and skin
- Drip and arterial spurt effects in film production
- Splatter and stains on props, clothing and set dressing
- Special effects makeup for theatre and events
- Complement to Venous Medium Blood to combine tones and add depth
- Direct application on silicone skin prosthetics
- Photography and music videos with controlled blood effects
How to use it
- Prepare the application area: clean the skin or prosthetic surface thoroughly to ensure good visual adhesion.
- Apply the blood directly from the container or with a brush, sponge or syringe depending on the desired effect.
- For arterial drips, tilt the surface and let the product flow naturally.
- For splatter, use a stiff-bristle brush or flick the product lightly with a finger or brush.
- Combine with Aged Dark Blood at the edges to add depth and transition between fresh and clotted blood.
- If you need dilution for watery blood effects (bloody sweat, tears), add a small amount of water.
- To remove from skin, wash with soap and water. For fabrics, machine wash at 40 °C with detergent. Always perform a prior test on delicate fabrics.
Usage tips
Combine tones for greater realism
Human blood is not a single colour. Use Arterial Bright as the base for active, fresher areas, and add Venous Medium in pooled or deeper areas. To simulate clotted or aged blood at the wound edges, incorporate Aged Dark. Combining all three tones from the Clink ST range significantly elevates the realism.
Controlling flow and texture
If you need a thicker blood effect that does not flow as much (for static wounds or vertical surfaces), mix Arterial Bright Blood with Fleet Street Blood Paste, which adds body and lets you sculpt clots or pooled blood without the product running. If on the other hand you need a blood effect that dries to leave permanent stains on props or clothing, consider Fleet Street Drying Blood Fresh.
Application on silicone prosthetics
On prosthetics made with skin silicone, Arterial Bright Blood adheres visually very well thanks to its glossy finish. Apply it in the final steps of the character makeup process, once the prosthetic is placed and intrinsic painting is done. If you are working on surfaces where surface beading is a problem (highly repellent silicone), you can use Non-Bead Silicone Blood, specifically formulated to adhere to silicone without beading.
Frequently asked questions
Does this artificial blood permanently stain clothing?
On most fabrics, Arterial Bright Blood by Clink ST can be removed by machine washing at 40 °C with detergent. However, some delicate or synthetic fabrics may retain the pigment. We always recommend testing on a discreet area of the fabric before use in production.
Is it safe to apply directly on skin?
Yes, Arterial Bright Blood by Clink ST is formulated for direct application on skin. Even so, for people with very sensitive skin or a tendency to allergic reactions, it is advisable to perform a patch test on a small area before full application.
How long does it maintain the wet appearance once applied?
Unlike fast-drying bloods, Arterial Bright Blood does not dry, so it maintains its wet and glossy appearance indefinitely as long as it is not cleaned off. This makes it ideal for long shoots or performances where the effect needs to be maintained without constant touch-ups.
Can I dilute this blood with water to achieve a more watery blood effect?
Yes, Arterial Bright Blood by Clink ST is water soluble. You can dilute it to achieve bloody perspiration, blood tears or very fluid blood effects. Add water gradually until you reach the desired consistency.
What is the difference between the three tones in the Clink ST range?
The Clink ST range offers three tones designed to be combined: Arterial Bright is a vivid, glossy red that simulates fresh oxygenated blood; Venous Medium is a darker, deeper red representing venous or pooled blood; and Aged Dark simulates clotted or aged blood with a very dark, almost brown tone.
What is the difference between this blood and a drying blood?
Arterial Bright Blood by Clink ST does not dry, making it perfect for live effects that must maintain a wet appearance throughout the performance or shoot. If you need the blood to dry and set on props or clothing, Fleet Street Drying Blood Fresh or Fleet Street Drying Blood Dark are options specifically formulated for that purpose.
How do I prevent the blood from beading on silicone surfaces?
Silicone is a hydrophobic material that can cause water-based products to bead and slide off. If you are working on silicone prosthetics and need the blood to adhere properly without beading, Non-Bead Silicone Blood is specifically formulated for this use and provides optimal adhesion on silicone surfaces.
Can I mix this blood with blood paste to create clots?
Yes. By mixing Arterial Bright Blood with Fleet Street Blood Paste you can increase the product's viscosity and sculpt clots, pools of thick blood or non-flowing blood effects. This is a common technique in professional FX makeup to achieve wounds showing different stages of bleeding in a single application.
