What it is used for

The AC100 system is the go-to material for moulded decorative objects with a stone or mineral finish. Its water-based formulation makes it safe for indoor use and compatible with pigments, fillers and mineral aggregates. This kit is focused on creating planters, but the same resin applies to a much wider range of projects:

  • Planters, plant pots and decorative objects for indoor and outdoor use
  • Replicas of naturally textured surfaces (stone, concrete, mineral)
  • Decorative wall panels and cladding
  • Decorative sculpture and moulded art pieces
  • Small-batch production of objects using silicone moulds
  • Workshop projects, advanced crafts and product design

How to use it

  1. Prepare your work area. Place the silicone moulds on a level surface and protect the table with plastic sheeting or paper.
  2. Mix the material. Combine the AC100 liquid (part B) with the AC100 base (part A) in the ratio indicated on the packaging. Stir slowly to avoid bubbles until you obtain a homogeneous mix.
  3. Add the pigments. Incorporate the included pigments in the desired amount and mix again until you achieve a uniform colour. You can combine them to create custom shades.
  4. Add the fragrance. If you want the aromatic effect, add a few drops of the Hidden Garden fragrance oil to the mix before casting.
  5. Cast into the mould. Pour the mix into the silicone moulds in a continuous, slow stream. Tap the mould gently on the table to bring trapped bubbles to the surface.
  6. Allow to cure. Wait for the curing time indicated before demoulding. The piece will be rigid enough to handle, but full cure continues for 24–48 h.
  7. Demould carefully. Gently flex the silicone mould to release the piece without forcing the edges.
  8. Apply the gloss sealer. Once the piece is fully cured and dry, apply the included gloss sealer with a clean brush to protect the surface and enhance the finish.
  9. Decorate and assemble. Use the natural and black sticks included to add the decorative finishing touch characteristic of the Hidden Garden kit.

Usage tips

Ratios and consistency

AC100 acrylic resin is not mixed with water: the liquid component (part B) is the mixing agent and determines the final fluidity. Always follow the ratio indicated on the packaging. If you need more working time, you can add a few drops of Acrystal retarder to extend the pot life without compromising the cure.

Bubble control and viscosity

For thicker pours or if you want to apply the material on vertical surfaces without it sagging, add a small amount of Acrystal thixotropic agent to the mix. Always mix slowly using wide circular movements; avoid rapid stirring that incorporates air. Tapping the mould on the table helps bubbles rise to the surface before the material sets.

Demoulding and finishing

The silicone moulds included in the kit do not require a release agent, but if you reuse the moulds many times it is advisable to clean them with warm water between castings. The included gloss sealer protects the characteristic porous surface of Jesmonite. If you prefer a matte finish, you can skip it or apply a very thin coat. Store unused pigments tightly sealed and away from direct light to preserve their intensity.

Frequently asked questions

Is the acrylic resin mixed with water?

No. The AC100 has its own liquid component (part B) with which the powder base (part A) is mixed. No water is added to the process. Following the correct ratio between both components is key to obtaining a clean cure and a strong finished piece.

Is it safe to use this kit indoors?

Yes. AC100 is a water-based resin with no solvents or volatile organic compounds (VOC), making it particularly suitable for working in enclosed spaces with normal ventilation. Even so, wear the gloves included in the kit and avoid prolonged skin contact.

Can I reuse the silicone moulds from the kit?

Yes. The silicone moulds can withstand multiple castings. Clean any cured resin residue with warm water before reusing them. With proper care they can last for dozens of castings with no appreciable loss of detail.

Can I mix the included pigments with each other?

Yes. The kit pigments are compatible with each other and with the AC100 base. You can combine them to obtain intermediate shades or create marbled effects by adding the colours at different moments before casting.

Does the fragrance oil affect the curing of the resin?

At the indicated amounts, no. The Hidden Garden fragrance oil included in the kit is formulated to be compatible with AC100 resin. Do not add more than the recommended amount, as excess oil can interfere with setting and alter the surface finish.

Can I use this material for planters with real plants?

Yes, although it is recommended to apply the included gloss sealer to the inner base of the planter once cured. This reduces porosity and protects the piece from prolonged moisture. For extended outdoor use, consider applying several coats of sealer.

What is the difference between this kit and buying AC100 resin in bulk?

The kit includes all the consumables needed for a complete first project: moulds, pigments, fragrance, sealer and tools. If you already have experience and want to produce in larger volumes, buying the components separately — AC100 base and liquid — is more economical and flexible. The kit is the ideal option for getting started or as a gift.

What other moulds can I use with AC100 resin?

Any silicone mould is compatible with AC100. You can also cast in polypropylene, polyethylene or treated wood moulds. Avoid untreated porous moulds or materials that may react with the water-based binder. If you want to make your own moulds, silicone is the most versatile and durable material for this system.
