Water-washable 3D resin, low odour and low shrinkage. 76 Shore D hardness, 120 cps viscosity. 1 kg bottle.

Phrozen Water-Washable Rapid Black 3D Resin is a UV-curing photopolymer resin designed for LCD/MSLA printers that eliminates the need for isopropyl alcohol washing: plain tap water is all you need to remove uncured resin residue. With low viscosity, low odour and a hardness of 76 Shore D, it is a solid choice for those seeking fast post-processing without sacrificing 4K detail quality.

What it is used for

This resin is designed for applications where post-processing speed and detail quality are the priority. Its Water-Washable formulation makes it especially convenient in workshops with limited access to solvents or where the use of harsh chemicals needs to be reduced.

  • Miniatures and collectible figures with a high level of detail
  • Product prototypes and design models
  • Lightweight engineering parts requiring low shrinkage
  • Architectural and visualisation models
  • Prop parts and special effects pieces that will be painted afterwards
  • Small-part serial production where a fast washing cycle is key

How to use it

  1. Shake the bottle well for at least 30–60 seconds before pouring the resin into the vat to homogenise the components.
  2. Set the print parameters in your slicing software according to Phrozen's recommendations for this resin and your printer's screen size.
  3. Start the print in a well-ventilated area; although the odour is low, good air circulation is recommended.
  4. Remove the part from the build plate using a spatula and nitrile gloves once printing is complete.
  5. Wash the part with tap water, gently scrubbing with a soft-bristle brush to remove uncured resin. Isopropyl alcohol is not required, although it can be used for a cleaner finish on complex geometries.
  6. Dry the part with paper or compressed air before post-curing.
  7. Post-cure under UV light (405 nm) for the recommended time to achieve the final mechanical properties stated in the technical data sheet.
Caution: Uncured resin is irritating to skin and eyes. Always wear nitrile gloves and safety glasses and work in a ventilated area. Wash water contains uncured resin: expose it to UV light before pouring it down the drain to neutralise it, or dispose of the waste in accordance with local regulations. Do not pour uncured resin directly down the drain.

Usage tips

Working temperature

Resin viscosity increases in cold conditions, which can affect vat filling and adhesion of the first layers. Work at room temperature (between 20 °C and 28 °C). If the workshop is cold, leave the bottle at room temperature for at least one hour before use.

Wash water management

Although water washing is convenient, the resulting water contains photopolymer resin particles. Collect it in a translucent container, expose it to sunlight or a UV lamp for several hours to solidify the residue, then filter and discard the solid as special waste. Never pour this water directly down the drain without treatment.

Storage and shelf life

Store the bottle tightly sealed, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Photopolymer resins degrade with exposure to ambient UV light. Once opened, use the resin within a reasonable timeframe (check the batch expiry date) and avoid leaving resin in the vat for extended periods when the printer is not in use.

Frequently asked questions

Is isopropyl alcohol required to clean prints?

No. Phrozen Water-Washable Rapid Black 3D Resin is formulated to be washed with tap water, eliminating the dependence on isopropyl alcohol in the standard washing process. That said, for parts with very complex geometries or internal channels, a final rinse with isopropanol can help remove residue from hard-to-reach areas.

What type of printers is this resin compatible with?

It is compatible with LCD/MSLA printers that use 405 nm UV light, which is the most widely used standard in the prosumer and professional resin printer market. Always check your printer manufacturer's recommendations to fine-tune layer exposure times.

Is UV post-curing essential?

Yes. Freshly printed parts have not yet reached their final mechanical properties. Post-curing under UV light (405 nm) completes the polymerisation and guarantees the 76 Shore D hardness, the 15 MPa tensile modulus and the rest of the values listed in the technical data sheet. Without post-curing, the part will be softer and more brittle.

Can the printed part be painted once cured?

Yes. Once post-cured and dry, the part accepts acrylic paints, spray primers and other common workshop finishes. It is recommended to lightly sand the surface and apply a bonding primer to improve paint adhesion, especially in black where tonal changes require good coverage.

What is the difference between a water-washable resin and a standard resin?

Standard resins require organic solvents such as isopropyl alcohol to remove uncured residue. Water-washable resins incorporate water-miscible monomers that allow washing with tap water, reducing the cost and hazard of post-processing. The usual trade-off is that the wash water must be treated before disposal.

Are parts printed with this resin brittle?

Not particularly. With an elongation at break of 18 % and an Izod impact resistance of 1.3 J/m, Phrozen Water-Washable Rapid Black 3D Resin offers acceptable toughness for miniatures, prototypes and lightweight functional parts. However, like any photopolymer resin, it is not designed for high mechanical load applications.

How long can the resin be stored once opened?

If stored correctly (bottle tightly sealed, away from light and at a stable temperature), it can remain in good condition for several months. Always shake before use to homogenise any pigments and components that may have settled during storage.

What other Phrozen resins are available at Feroca?

Feroca distributes several resins from the Phrozen range, including Phrozen Water-Washable Model Gray, Phrozen ABS-Like Matte Gray and Phrozen Aqua-Gray 4K, each aimed at different use cases and finishes.
