Telesis IPM Gel is the gelled version of isopropyl myristate, a reference conditioner and thinner in special effects makeup and prosthetics. Its gel texture prevents dripping or running during application, making it the preferred option when working on sensitive areas such as the mouth and eye contours. It contains no silica gel and is interchangeable with liquid isopropyl myristate in any standard application.

What it is used for
IPM Gel is primarily used in professional FX makeup and prosthetics. Its stable gel behaviour is especially useful when precision application is required or when liquid myristate would be difficult to control:
- Conditioning and preparing skin before applying FX prosthetics
- Dissolving and cleaning silicone adhesives such as Telesis 8
- Adjusting the viscosity of paints and pigments for intrinsic colouring in silicones
- Application around the mouth and eye areas where liquid product could run out of control
- Gentle release and edge conditioning on silicone prosthetics
- Thinning of cosmetic and FX products in custom formulation
How to use it
- Clean and thoroughly dry the skin area or surface you are going to work on.
- Take a small amount of IPM Gel with a spatula, brush or fingertip, depending on the application.
- Apply the gel directly to the desired area or mix it with the product you need to thin or reactivate.
- If using it as a thinner for Telesis 8 Thinner or silicone adhesives, add it in small amounts until you reach the desired consistency.
- For adhesive removal, apply the gel to the edge of the prosthetic or to adhesive residue and work gently until the adhesive releases.
- Remove any excess with a gauze pad or soft towel.
Usage tips
Quantity control
Being a gel, it is easy to pick up more product than needed. Always work with small portions: IPM Gel spreads well, and excess can leave the skin or prosthetic too shiny or interfere with subsequent adhesion if not properly removed.
Compatibility with adhesives
If you use IPM Gel to clean or loosen silicone adhesives such as Telesis 8, make sure to thoroughly remove any residue before reapplying adhesive. Isopropyl myristate acts as a plasticiser and can reduce bond strength if left in the contact area.
Storage
Close the container tightly after each use and store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight. The gel texture may be affected if the product is exposed to extreme temperatures.
Frequently asked questions
What is isopropyl myristate used for in FX makeup?
Isopropyl myristate is a cosmetic-grade ester widely used in special effects as a skin conditioner, silicone adhesive thinner and prosthetic cleaning agent. Telesis IPM Gel offers the same functions as liquid myristate but with a texture that enables controlled application.
What is the difference between the gel and liquid formats?
The main difference is consistency: the gel does not drip or run, allowing greater control during application, especially on vertical or delicate areas such as the eye and mouth contours. Functionally they are equivalent; Telesis IPM Gel can replace liquid myristate in any standard process.
Can it be used around the eyes?
Yes. The gel version is specifically designed for delicate areas such as the eye and mouth contours, where liquid myristate could run and make work more difficult. Even so, avoid direct contact with mucous membranes and the eyes.
Can it be used to remove silicone prosthetics bonded with adhesive?
Yes. IPM Gel is effective for loosening and cleaning the edges of prosthetics adhered with silicone adhesives such as Telesis 8. Apply a small amount to the edge of the prosthetic and work gently until the adhesive releases. Clean away residue thoroughly before a new application.
Does it contain silica gel?
No. Telesis IPM Gel contains no silica gel. It is formulated exclusively from gelled isopropyl myristate, making it suitable for cosmetic use and contact with sensitive skin.
Can I use it as a thinner for silicone paints?
Yes. Isopropyl myristate is a common thinner for pigments and paints used intrinsically in silicones. In gel format, you can better control the amount added and avoid the product spilling into the mix.
Is it compatible with all silicone adhesives?
IPM Gel is especially effective with silicone adhesives from the Telesis family. If you use another type of adhesive such as PROTAC (acrylic base), behaviour may vary. Always test on a small area before applying to the entire prosthetic.
How much use does a 120 ml container provide?
It depends on use. For spot cleaning and conditioning applications, 120 ml will last many working sessions. If used intensively as a thinner, consumption will be higher. The gel texture helps avoid product wastage.
