What it is used for
Zero Marble Matt Sealer Spray is designed for the special effects makeup (SPFX) industry and theatrical and film characterisation. Its colourless formulation and matte finish make it particularly versatile when a neutral seal is needed that does not alter the tone of the prosthetic or leave unwanted shine.
- Sealing latex foam, silicone and gelatine prosthetics on skin
- Setting artificial blood and wound effects to prevent them from running during performance
- Protecting FX makeups against sweat and friction
- Mattifying the finish of prosthetics prone to shine
- Daily use on long shoots or live shows thanks to its gentle formulation
- Sealing on sensitive skin where heavier sealers may cause irritation
How to use it
- Make sure the prosthetic is correctly adhered with an appropriate adhesive, such as Telesis 8 Adhesivo de Silicona, and that the edges are well blended with the skin.
- Clean and dry the area thoroughly: the sealer should not be applied to wet or oily surfaces.
- Shake the can well before use.
- Apply the spray from a distance of approximately 20–25 cm, using smooth, even movements, in a thin layer.
- Allow to dry completely before applying additional layers of makeup, paint or artificial blood.
- Repeat the application if greater durability or hold over subsequent products is needed.
- To remove the sealer, use the appropriate solvent such as Telesis Super Solv Plus.
Usage tips
Distance and amount: less is more
The key with any sealing spray is moderation. Apply thin layers and allow each to dry before the next. A thick coat can create a plastic effect, block skin breathability or alter the texture of the prosthetic. Two or three thin layers always give a better result than a single heavy coat.
Application order in an FX workflow
In a complete FX makeup process, the sealer comes into play after the prosthetic is adhered and the edges are blended, but before the final paint and any blood or dirt effects. If you are going to use artificial blood on top, apply a coat of Zero Marble Matt Sealer, allow it to dry, add the blood and then apply a final sealing coat on top to set it and prevent it from running with sweat.
Compatibility with adhesives and removers
Zero Marble Matt Sealer works well in combination with adhesives such as PROTAC Adhesivo acrílico para maquillaje FX or Telesis 8. To thin the consistency of Telesis 8 before application, you can use Telesis 8 Thinner. To remove the sealer at the end of the day, Telesis Super Solv Plus dissolves the product without being harsh on the skin.
Frequently asked questions
What is a sealer spray used for in FX makeup?
A sealer spray creates a protective layer over the prosthetic and makeup that improves durability, sets pigments and effects applied on top (such as artificial blood) and protects against sweat and friction. Zero Marble Matt Sealer also provides a matte finish without altering the tone of the work.
Is it safe for use on sensitive skin?
Yes. Zero Marble Matt Sealer is formulated to be especially gentle, making it suitable for sensitive skin and for daily use on long shoots or extended shows. Always avoid contact with eyes, mouth and mucous membranes.
How long does the seal last during a performance?
Once dry, Zero Marble Matt Sealer resists alcohol and the normal sweat of a working day. For demanding conditions (outdoor shoots, high heat, intense physical performances), applying two thin coats is recommended, refreshing the seal during breaks if necessary.
Can it be used on silicone prosthetics?
Yes, Zero Marble Matt Sealer is compatible with silicone, latex foam and gelatine prosthetics. It is especially useful for mattifying the shine that painted silicone prosthetics sometimes exhibit.
How is the product removed at the end of the day?
The manufacturer recommends Telesis Super Solv Plus to clean the sealer effectively without being harsh on the skin. Apply the remover with a sponge or gauze, leave it to act for a few seconds and remove gently.
Does it alter the colour of the prosthetic or makeup?
No. Zero Marble Matt Sealer contains no colour whatsoever, so it is completely transparent once dry. It only adds a slight matte effect which, in most cases, enhances the realistic appearance of FX makeup.
Can it be applied directly over artificial blood?
Yes. Applying Zero Marble Matt Sealer over artificial blood once it is in place helps to set it and prevents it from running or spreading uncontrollably during the performance. It is advisable to let the artificial blood dry before sealing over it.
How many applications does a 120 ml can provide?
It depends on the size of the area being treated and the number of layers applied. For standard use on facial prosthetics, a 120 ml can may be sufficient for several working days. Applying thin layers optimises the yield of the product.
