What it is used for

ClearWater Super Fast is designed for thin castings and projects where waiting time is a critical factor. Its self-levelling finish and high transparency make it particularly useful for decorative and artistic projects requiring optical clarity. Note that the recommended maximum layer thickness is 2 mm; for thicker layers or deeper water effects, refer to other resins in the ClearWater range.

  • Jewellery and small pieces: gems, pendants, rings, inlays
  • Liquid art and fluid art on canvas or board
  • Coasters, trays and thin-layer decorative objects
  • Encapsulation of dried flowers, insects or small objects
  • Glossy top coat over decorated surfaces
  • Bonding and sealing of metals and small-format electronic components
  • Filling silicone moulds for figures and decorative pieces

How to use it

  1. Prepare the environment: work in a ventilated space, at a temperature between 20-25 °C and with controlled humidity (avoid very humid environments). Protect the work surface.
  2. Measure the components: use graduated containers and mix at a ratio of 100A:100B by volume. A precision scale is also valid if you follow the weight ratio indicated by the manufacturer.
  3. Mix: stir slowly and continuously for at least 2-3 minutes, scraping the sides and bottom of the container thoroughly. Avoid beating vigorously to prevent incorporating bubbles.
  4. Pour into the mould or onto the surface: apply the mixture to the silicone mould or prepared surface. The finish is self-levelling; manual levelling is not necessary.
  5. Remove bubbles: pass a soft flame torch or a heat gun at approximately 15-20 cm distance for a few seconds. Surface bubbles will disappear.
  6. Allow to cure: do not move the piece for at least 1-2 hours. At lower temperatures curing may take longer.
  7. Demould: once cured, demould carefully. If using a rigid mould, apply Release agent 34D beforehand to facilitate removal.
Warning: as an epoxy resin, ClearWater Super Fast may be irritating to skin and eyes in liquid state. Use nitrile gloves, safety goggles and work in a ventilated space. Avoid prolonged skin contact with uncured components. Once cured, the resin is inert and safe.

Usage tips

Temperature and bubbles

Ambient temperature directly affects viscosity and the appearance of bubbles. If working below 20 °C, slightly pre-warm component A (base resin) by submerging it in warm water for a few minutes before mixing. This reduces viscosity and facilitates degassing. When using the torch, apply heat in quick passes: excess heat can cause yellowing or deformation in very thin layers.

Pigmentation and additives

If you want to colour the resin, add epoxy-specific pigments to component A before mixing with B. The usual amount is between 2 and 5% of the total weight of the mixture. Do not use water-based pigments, as they can affect curing. For metallic or pearlescent effects, mix the pigment powder into component A and blend thoroughly before adding the hardener.

Multiple layers and thickness

The recommended maximum layer thickness is 2 mm. If you need greater depth (for example, to encapsulate bulky objects), apply successive layers waiting for each one to cure completely before pouring the next. This prevents excessive heating (exothermic reaction) that could cause internal bubbles, deformation or breakage of the piece. For deeper applications, consider other resins in the range with a longer working time.

Frequently asked questions

How long do I have to work with the mixture before it starts to gel?

The working time of ClearWater Super Fast is approximately 15 minutes from when you mix the two components. After that time, viscosity increases rapidly and the resin begins to gel. Prepare your moulds and materials before mixing to make the most of that window.

Can I make layers thicker than 2 mm?

It is not recommended to exceed 2 mm per layer with ClearWater Super Fast. Being a fast-curing resin, the exothermic reaction in thick layers can generate excessive heat, internal bubbles and optical distortions. If you need greater depth, apply several thin layers waiting for complete cure between each one.

Is it suitable for contact with food or beverages?

No, ClearWater Super Fast is not certified for food contact. If you need an epoxy resin suitable for surfaces in contact with food, see EpoFood, our colourless Food Safe epoxy.

Can it be used outdoors?

ClearWater Super Fast has high UV resistance, which delays yellowing from sun exposure. However, for long-term outdoor applications or those in continuous direct contact with water, it is recommended to apply an additional protective varnish once the piece has cured.

What moulds can I use with this resin?

Silicone moulds are the most convenient option because epoxy resin does not naturally adhere to them and demoulding is straightforward. You can also use polypropylene or polyethylene moulds. If you use moulds made of another material (wood, plaster, metal), apply Release agent 34D beforehand to prevent the resin from sticking.

Can I add dyes or pigments?

Yes. Use pigments specifically designed for epoxy resins, in powder or paste form. Incorporate them into component A before mixing with the hardener, at a proportion of between 2 and 5% of the total. Avoid water-based or oil-based pigments, as they can interfere with curing and cause the resin to remain tacky.

Why has my resin remained tacky after curing?

The most common cause is an incorrect mix ratio (too much or too little hardener) or insufficient mixing. Make sure to measure accurately at a ratio of 100A:100B by volume and mix for at least 2-3 minutes scraping the sides of the container thoroughly. It can also happen if the ambient temperature was too low at the time of pouring.

Can it be used as a coating over painted or decorated wood?

Yes, this is a common application in art and decoration. Make sure the surface is dry, clean and free of dust. Apply a thin, even layer; the self-levelling finish will do the rest. Keep in mind the 2 mm limit per layer. If the base paint contains greasy or silicone-based components, first carry out a test on a small area to verify adhesion.
