Flexible liquid polymer with glow in the dark effect. Cures translucent and luminescent. Green or blue. 60 ml. Bake at 135 °C for 30 min.

CosClay Liquid FX Glow is a flexible liquid polymer that, after baking at 135 °C, cures with a translucent, luminescent finish capable of glowing in the dark for hours. Formulated with strontium aluminate, it works both for direct casting into moulds and as a surface coating over CosClay polymer clay sculptures, making it a versatile tool for props, cosplay and special effects.

What it is used for

CosClay Liquid FX Glow expands the creative possibilities of any sculptor or prop maker. Its liquid nature and flexible cure make it equally useful for mould production and for surface finishes on pieces already sculpted with CosClay flexible polymer clay.

  • Casting into moulds to obtain flexible, highly detailed replicas that glow in the dark
  • Surface coating over polymer clay sculptures to add a glow effect
  • Detail enhancer: applied into cracks, textures and engravings to make them luminescent
  • Surface treatment on props, figures and cosplay accessories and special effects
  • Translucent colour layers over Super Sculpey or other bakeable polymer clays
  • Creation of translucent skin or luminescent organic tissue effects in FX makeup
  • Combination with other bakeable polymers to achieve localised glow zones

How to use it

  1. Prepare the substrate. If you are casting into a mould, make sure it is clean and, if necessary, apply a compatible release agent. If you are using it as a coating, have the clay sculpture ready without baking it yet.
  2. Shake or stir the bottle. The luminescent pigment can settle. Shake well before use to achieve an even distribution of the strontium aluminate.
  3. Apply or pour the liquid. For casting, pour directly into the mould up to the desired level. For coating or detail enhancement, apply with a fine brush over the areas you want to make luminescent. For thicker layers, repeat the process allowing a minimum rest time between layers.
  4. Remove bubbles. If surface bubbles appear, eliminate them with a heat gun passed at a distance or with a toothpick before baking.
  5. Bake at 135 °C for 30 minutes. Use a dedicated workshop toaster oven, never your regular kitchen oven if you share it with food. Place the piece on baking parchment.
  6. Allow to cool completely before handling or demoulding. The material is flexible once cold; when hot it can deform easily.
  7. Charge the glow. Expose the finished piece to intense light (sunlight or white LED) for a few minutes to charge the luminescent pigment. The more intense the light source, the greater the brightness and duration you will get in the dark.

Usage tips

Layer control for greater glow intensity

Luminescent intensity depends directly on the thickness of active pigment. If you need a more powerful glow, apply several thin layers instead of a single thick one: this reduces the risk of internal bubbles and ensures more even curing. Two or three layers of 1–2 mm, baked separately, give better results than a single 5 mm layer.

Compatibility with polymer clays

CosClay Liquid FX Glow is optimised to work alongside CosClay Sculpt, but is also compatible with other bakeable polymer clays such as Super Sculpey Beige or Super Sculpey Firm Gray. When used as a coating over an unbaked sculpture, you can bake everything in a single pass at 135 °C, as long as the base clay also supports that temperature.

Storage and shelf life

Store the bottle tightly closed, away from heat sources and direct sunlight. Residual heat can trigger partial curing inside the container. If the liquid has thickened but is not completely gelled, you may try to recover it with a warm water bath and gentle stirring; if it has already cured, the product is not recoverable. Once opened, use it within a reasonable time frame to ensure adequate fluidity.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it glow in the dark after charging?

It depends on the intensity and duration of the light source used to charge the pigment. With an adequate charge under direct LED or sunlight for 3–5 minutes, CosClay Liquid FX Glow can maintain visible luminescence for several hours. The first hours are the most intense; the light gradually fades over time.

Can it be used in silicone moulds?

Yes, silicone moulds are one of the most common options for casting this liquid polymer. As it is a bakeable material, make sure the mould can withstand temperatures of at least 135 °C. High-temperature platinum silicone moulds are the most suitable. tin silicone moulds may also work, but check the manufacturer's specifications before placing them in the oven.

Can the green and blue be mixed to obtain other colours?

Technically yes, you can mix both variants of CosClay Liquid FX Glow to obtain intermediate shades. Bear in mind that the luminescent result will also be affected by the combination of pigments, so the glow colour in the dark will be a blend of both. Always do a small test before applying it to your final piece.

Is the piece flexible once baked?

Yes. After full curing at 135 °C for 30 minutes, CosClay Liquid FX Glow cures with a flexible and durable texture. This makes it especially useful for props, cosplay accessories or pieces that may receive impacts or bend during use.

Can the cured piece be painted?

Yes, although as it is translucent and flexible, acrylic-based paints are the most recommended option. Bear in mind that applying dense layers of opaque paint will cover the luminescent effect, so if you want to keep the glow visible, use very thin layers or translucent-base paints compatible with flexible polymers.

Is it necessary to use a release agent to remove the piece from the mould?

It depends on the mould. With silicone moulds, a release agent is generally not necessary because the cured polymer does not adhere to silicone. With moulds made from other materials (resin, plaster, wood), it is advisable to apply a compatible release agent before pouring the liquid to facilitate demoulding without damaging the piece.

Can it be used over an already baked sculpture?

Yes. You can apply CosClay Liquid FX Glow as a coating over an already baked and cured polymer clay sculpture. In that case, apply the liquid with a brush, allow it to settle well into the textures and bake again at 135 °C for 30 minutes. The already-cured base piece handles a second baking cycle perfectly well.

What is the difference compared to solid polymer clays for sculpting?

CosClay Liquid FX Glow is a polymer in liquid format, which means it cannot be sculpted directly with hands or tools as a solid clay can. Its function is complementary: it is used for casting into moulds, coating surfaces, filling in details or creating translucency and glow effects that are not possible with paste-form clays such as CosClay Sculpt or Super Sculpey.
