What it is used for

This set is designed for painting blue armour and metallic equipment on wargame miniatures, although its versatility makes it useful in many other modelling and creative art contexts:

How to use it

1. Prepare the surface: clean the miniature or piece and apply a white primer to maximise coverage and colour vibrancy, especially for the blues (Ultramarine and Sky Blue). Playmarkers can be applied over black or grey, but white is the background recommended by AK Interactive.
2. Prime the marker: shake the marker well for a few seconds, then press the tip against a test surface until the paint flows evenly. You will only need to do this the first time or after a period of non-use.
3. Apply the paint: lay down the first colour planes with uniform strokes, using the felt tip to cover flat surfaces or outline details. Work in thin layers; the high coverage allows you to build opacity quickly without overloading.
4. Wet-blend if necessary: while the paint is still fresh you can soften edges with a damp brush to achieve smooth transitions between Sky Blue, Ultramarine and Gun Metal.
5. Allow to dry: touch-dry time is fast (minutes). Wait until the layer is completely dry before applying the next one or before doing any weathering.
6. Apply effects and finish: once dry, the paint withstands further work with filters, washes or pigments. If you want a matt or high-gloss finish, apply your preferred AK Interactive varnish with no risk of damaging the paint.
7. Cleaning: remove paint residue from the tip with water before it dries. If the tip becomes clogged or worn, replace it with a new tip from the Playmarkers range.

Usage tips

Make the most of the set's colour scheme

The combination of Sky Blue and Ultramarine lets you build a complete blue armour scheme in three steps: base coat with Ultramarine, lowlights blended with Gun Metal in worn areas, and highlights with Sky Blue on edges and raised surfaces. Gold and Silver are reserved for filigree details, emblems and metallic parts that contrast with the blue.

Combine with the rest of the Playmarkers range

The colours in this set are individual references from the AKM range, which means you can purchase them separately when they run out or combine them with other Playmarkers to expand your palette. Red, for example, works very well for eyes, insignia and alert details over a blue armour base coat.

Flow and pressure control

The amount of paint that comes out depends on the pressure you apply to the tip. For fine details use light strokes with almost no pressure on the tip; for covering larger surfaces, press harder to load the tip. If too much paint comes out at any point, absorb the excess with an absorbent paper before continuing on the miniature.
