What it is used for
This set is designed for painting any green-skin figure quickly, comfortably and precisely, whether for wargame sessions, diorama projects or display collections. The six colours have been chosen to cover the full tonal range needed, from the deepest shadows to the highlights, including the characteristic skin tones of orcs and goblins. They can also be combined with other Playmarkers or with acrylic paints from the AK range to expand effects and transitions.
- Painting wargame miniatures: orcs, goblins, trolls and green-skin creatures in general.
- Quick sketching and tabletop painting with a clean finish and no need for a palette.
- Zenithal highlighting and colour layering over white primer.
- Gradient and blending effects between green tones using the wet tip.
- Touch-ups and corrections on specific areas of already-painted figures.
- Cosplay and SFX projects requiring a durable, fast-drying green skin colour.
- Education and beginner modelling workshops, thanks to the ease of use of the marker format.
How to use it
- Surface preparation: Clean the figure of any grease or dust. It is recommended to apply a white spray primer before starting to maximise coverage and adhesion of the Playmarkers.
- Activating the marker: Before first use, shake the marker well and press the tip on a test surface until the paint flows evenly.
- Applying the base coat: Apply the darkest colour (BLACK or DARK GREEN) in shadow areas and as a general base if you prefer a contrast scheme. Work by sections to maintain control.
- Colour layers: Add ANIMAL GREEN and LIGHT GREEN in progressive layers over the highlighted areas, allowing each layer to dry before applying the next. The paint dries quickly, keeping the process fast.
- Details and finishing: Use YELLOW for extreme light accents or disease effects, and LEATHER for belts, pouches and leather elements accompanying the figure.
- Blending and transitions: With the tip slightly damp, you can blend the boundaries between colours while the paint is still wet.
- Weathering and varnishing: Once dry, the paint withstands the application of weathering products, washes or any type of varnish — matte, satin or gloss — without issues.
- Cleaning: Wipe the tip with a damp cloth after use. If the tip becomes saturated with colour, it can be replaced with a new one.
Tips and advice
White primer as a base
Using a white primer is especially important with green tones, as it allows LIGHT GREEN and ANIMAL GREEN to show their full coverage and saturation potential. Without primer, lighter colours may appear dull or require more coats than necessary.
Application order and light control
For an effective tabletop result, start with DARK GREEN as the general base, build up with ANIMAL GREEN on mid-tone areas, and finish with LIGHT GREEN on the highest points of the figure. Reserve YELLOW for the most extreme light peaks or to simulate toxicity effects. BLACK is great for outline lines and deep shadows, and LEATHER for all the leather accessories on the figure.
Compatibility and palette expansion
The colours in this set can be mixed directly on the figure with other Playmarkers from the AKM range or with water-based acrylic paints from AK Interactive. If you need more references to complement your orc and goblin palette, you will find the complete Playmarkers catalogue available as individual units at Feroca.
Frequently asked questions
Can this paint be applied directly on plastic without primer?
Technically yes — Playmarkers have good adhesion on plastic, resin, metal and wood. However, for the best coverage and durability results with this set, AK Interactive recommends always using a white primer before painting. Especially with lighter green tones, the primer makes a notable difference to the final finish.
Does the paint withstand regular handling of figures during a game?
Yes. The acrylic formula of the Playmarkers is designed to resist handling, water and heat. For extra protection, especially on pieces used frequently in wargame, it is recommended to seal the figures with a matte or satin varnish once the paint is finished.
Can washes or weathering products be applied on top?
Yes, without any problem. Once the paint from the Playmarkers Set - Orcs & Goblins is dry, you can apply washes, filters, pigments or any AK Interactive weathering product without any risk of lifting or damaging the base colour layer.
Can the colours in this set be combined with other markers or paints?
Yes. The colours in the AKM104 are fully compatible with the rest of the AK Interactive Playmarkers range and with their water-based acrylic paints. You can mix directly on the figure while the paint is still wet or layer coats to achieve a wider variety of tones and effects.
