What it is used for

Pastel Pink is a soft and versatile shade within the AK Interactive pastel palette. Its desaturated character makes it a useful reference in multiple modelling and applied arts contexts:

  • Historical and fantasy figure painting: flesh tones, fabrics, trimmings and decorative elements in delicate shades.
  • Wargame miniatures: uniforms, cloaks, feminine or fantastical clothing elements that require light pastel tones.
  • Scenery and dioramas: interior walls, flowers, urban signage or any architectural element in a soft pinkish tone.
  • Scale vehicles and aircraft: cockpit details, identification markings or weathering effects over light backgrounds.
  • Cosplay and SFX: base or blending shade for skin finishes, prosthetics, prop elements with a matt finish.
  • Illustration and applied art: as a base or glazing tone on works over rigid surfaces.

How to use it

  1. Surface preparation: apply a suitable primer (preferably AK Interactive spray) over a clean and dry piece. Pastel Pink covers better over light or white backgrounds.
  2. Shaking: shake the bottle well for at least 30 seconds before use. The dense pigmentation of the Standard range requires a homogeneous mix.
  3. Thinning: for brush work, use the paint as-is or with a few drops of water. For airbrush, thin until you achieve a semi-skimmed milk consistency and adjust the pressure between 15 and 20 PSI.
  4. Application: apply in thin, successive coats. Pastel Pink, being a light shade, gains opacity with two or three coats fully dried between each one.
  5. Drying: the paint becomes touch-dry within a few minutes. Wait at least 20–30 minutes between coats to prevent the underlying layer from reactivating.
  6. Cleaning: clean the brush or airbrush with warm water immediately after use. If the paint has dried in the airbrush, use AK Interactive acrylic thinner.

Usage tips

Pastel mixes and gradients

The pastel shades from AK Interactive are designed to work together. Pastel Pink blends very well with whites or other pastel tones in the range to create smooth transitions on fabrics or skin. Always test mixes on a wet palette before applying them to the miniature.

Lighting effects and zenithal highlighting

Being a high-value colour (light shade), Pastel Pink works very well as a light colour or highlight over darker pinks. You can also use it as a zenithal airbrush coat over a dark base to mark the areas of maximum illumination before painting over them with a brush.

Controlling the final finish

The finish of this paint may vary slightly depending on thinning and the number of coats. If you need a fully matt finish for competition figures or to correctly receive washes and filters, apply an AK Interactive matt varnish once the piece is complete.

Frequently asked questions

Can this paint be used directly without priming the piece?

It is not recommended. Although Pastel Pink and the rest of the AK Interactive Standard range have good adhesion, priming the surface guarantees more uniform coverage, better long-term adhesion and a more professional result. Use a primer compatible with an acrylic base.

Is this paint suitable for airbrush?

Yes. Pastel Pink (AK11059) is suitable for airbrush. Thin it with water or AK Interactive acrylic thinner until you achieve a fluid viscosity, and work at a pressure of between 15 and 20 PSI for thin, controlled coats.

How many coats do I need for opaque coverage?

Light shades like Pastel Pink usually require two to three thin coats to achieve full opaque coverage, especially over dark backgrounds. Apply each coat well thinned and allow to dry between applications for best results.

What should I use to clean the airbrush after using this paint?

As it is a water-based acrylic paint, warm water is sufficient if cleaned immediately after use. If the paint has started to dry in the airbrush, use AK Interactive acrylic thinner to dissolve the residue without damaging the seals of the equipment.

Where can I buy this paint in Spain?

Pastel Pink AK11059 is available at Feroca, official distributor of AK Interactive in Spain. You can purchase it directly from the Feroca online store with shipping throughout mainland Spain and with a guarantee of an original product.

Is this paint compatible with varnishes and finishing products?

Yes. Pastel Pink is compatible with the varnishes and finishing products in the AK Interactive range. Always apply the varnish once the paint is fully cured (minimum 24 hours) to avoid reactivation or loss of finish.
