What it is used for
The Playmarker Silver is a versatile tool that covers a wide range of applications within scale modelling and visual arts. Its felt tip allows precise control of the stroke, ideal for both small surfaces and larger areas that require uniformity.
- Quick painting of wargame miniatures (metallic bases, armour, weapons)
- Applying metallic colours to scale military vehicles, aircraft and ship models
- Highlighting metallic details on resin and plastic figures
- Base coat or intermediate Silver layer on dioramas and scenery
- Quick colour sketches and tests before applying brush or airbrush paint
- Cosplay projects: painting accessories, helmets, foam or plastic armour
- Weathering and chipping effects over previous paint layers
- Use in SFX and props: metallic finishes on any porous or primed surface
How to use it
- Prepare the surface: Clean the piece of dust, grease or mould release residue. For the best result, apply a coat of white primer before using the Playmarker Silver. This improves adhesion and colour intensity.
- Activate the marker: Shake the Playmarker well with the cap on to homogenise the paint. Press the tip gently on a test surface until the paint saturates the felt tip evenly.
- Apply the paint: Paint with fluid, controlled strokes. You can layer coats once the previous one is dry to build coverage or modulate the tone. The paint allows blending between wet layers to achieve transitions and effects.
- Allow to dry: Touch-dry time is fast. Wait until the layer is completely dry before applying varnishes, washes or weathering products.
- Apply additional finishes if desired: The Playmarker Silver accepts any type of varnish (matt, satin or gloss) without risk of damaging the paint. This lets you adjust the final finish to your preference.
- Cleaning and maintenance: Always close the marker with its cap after each use. If the tip dries out or accumulates colour residue, you can replace it with a spare tip compatible with the Playmarker range.
Usage tips
White primer as a base
Although the Playmarker Silver has high coverage, AK Interactive always recommends starting from a white primer. Over white, the Silver colour gains luminosity and the satin finish is more consistent. If you start from unpainted grey or black plastic, you may need more coats to cover correctly.
Thin layers and controlled layering
The key to a uniform finish with any Playmarker is working in thin layers. Do not try to cover the entire area in a single pass with heavy pressure: you will get paint build-up and tip marks. Apply a first light coat, let it dry and repeat. Two or three thin layers always give a better result than a single thick one.
Compatible with weathering techniques
The Playmarker Silver withstands washes, chipping and weathering products without lifting the base layer. You can apply filters, pigment powder or oxidation products from the AK Interactive range over it without any issues. If you want to further secure the colour layer before weathering, seal it with a spray varnish before continuing.
Frequently asked questions
Can this marker be used directly without priming the piece?
It is possible to apply the Playmarker Silver on plastic, resin or metal without priming, as its acrylic formula has good adhesion on these surfaces. However, AK Interactive recommends using a white primer beforehand to achieve maximum coverage and the best representation of the Silver colour. Without primer the colour may be less uniform and require more coats.
Can the paint from the marker be thinned or mixed?
The paint in the Playmarker Silver is water-based acrylic, so you can lightly dampen the tip with water to thin the stroke or facilitate blending while the paint is still wet. It is not designed for extracting the paint and mixing it on a palette like conventional paint, although it is technically possible to do so.
How long does the paint in the marker last?
Each Playmarker contains approximately 5 ml of acrylic paint. How long it lasts depends on the size of the pieces and the pressure you apply when painting. By closing the cap firmly after each session and storing the marker horizontally or with the tip facing down, you can significantly extend its useful life.
Can varnish be applied over this type of paint?
Yes. The Playmarker Silver is fully compatible with spray or brush-on varnishes, whether matt, satin or gloss. You can seal the colour layer with no risk of the paint cracking or lifting. This makes it ideal for pieces that will receive subsequent weathering.
Is it suitable for painting wargame miniatures?
Yes, it is one of the most common uses of the Playmarker Silver. Its brush-type felt tip allows you to work with precision on small areas such as armour, weapons or metallic elements of miniatures. Being fast-drying and high-coverage, it greatly speeds up painting sessions.
