What it is used for
The Playmarker Red is designed to apply colour quickly, cleanly and precisely on virtually any surface commonly used in modelling and other creative disciplines. Its acrylic formula allows successive layers and blending, and tolerates subsequent weathering without lifting.
- Scale models: quick painting of details, markings and signage on military vehicles, aircraft or civilian models.
- Wargame miniatures: base coat on specific areas, layering colour and drawing fine lines on Warhammer and similar figures.
- Dioramas and figures: applying vivid colours to scenery elements, badges or uniform decorations.
- Cosplay and props: painting resin, foam or plastic accessories with precision and without the need for a brush.
- SFX and art: detailing on cured special-effects makeup, prosthetics or character pieces.
- Sketches and prototypes: quick colouring of 3D-printed parts or resin prototypes before a final finish.
How to use it
- Surface preparation: clean the piece of dust and grease. Apply a white primer by spray or brush to maximise the coverage of the Red and obtain the truest possible shade.
- Activating the marker: shake the Playmarker well before use. Press the tip onto a test surface until the paint flows evenly.
- Application: apply the colour directly onto the piece with smooth, controlled strokes. You can layer coats once the previous one is dry to build opacity or create transitions.
- Blending and transitions: while the paint is still wet, use a clean brush lightly dampened with water to blend edges and create gradient effects.
- Drying: the formula dries quickly. Allow to dry completely between coats before applying weathering effects, filters or varnishes.
- Weathering and finishing: once dry, the Red accepts any weathering product without risk of reactivating the base coat. Apply the varnish of your choice (matt, satin or gloss) to seal and unify the finish.
- Cleaning: remove fresh paint residue with water. If the tip dries out or becomes contaminated, remove it and replace it with a spare.
Usage tips
White primer for a cleaner Red
Red is one of the colours with the lowest covering power in acrylic paint due to the nature of its pigments. Always applying over a white base will save you unnecessary coats and make the Red appear more vibrant and even from the very first pass.
Compatibility with modelling techniques
The Playmarker Red is fully compatible with standard miniature painting techniques: layering, washes, highlights and weathering. You can combine it without any issues with the rest of the AK Interactive Playmarkers range to create complete colour palettes for your projects.
Frequently asked questions
Can this type of marker be used on any surface?
Yes. The Playmarker Red is formulated to adhere to plastic, resin, metal and wood. To ensure maximum adhesion and durability, it is recommended to apply a primer coat first, especially on smooth or porous surfaces.
Is the paint in this marker resistant to the regular handling of miniatures?
Yes. The acrylic formula of the Playmarker Red is resistant to water, heat and handling once dry. For greater protection on pieces that will be handled frequently, it is recommended to seal with a final varnish.
Can weathering be applied over this marker without lifting the paint?
Absolutely. Once dry, the Playmarker Red allows any weathering product to be applied — washes, filters, pigments — without any risk of reactivating or damaging the underlying colour coat.
What varnish is compatible with this type of paint?
The Playmarker Red accepts any type of varnish: matt, satin or gloss. You can use AK Interactive spray or brush-on varnishes without affecting the paint applied with the marker.
Can I refill the marker when the paint runs out?
The Playmarker Red contains approximately 5 ml of paint. Although the marker body is designed to be reusable, AK Interactive does not specify an official refill system for this reference. Check the availability of accessories at Feroca, official AK Interactive distributor in Spain.
Is a primer necessary before using this marker?
It is not strictly required, but AK Interactive recommends applying a white primer before using the Playmarkers to achieve the best results in coverage and colour accuracy. In the case of the Red, a white primer is particularly useful given the typical behaviour of red pigments.
