What it is used for

The Zombie Skin colour is aimed at representing dead, diseased or decomposing skin, but its muted greenish tone makes it equally useful for a wide variety of applications in scale modelling and miniature art:

  • Painting wargame miniatures: undead, zombies, demons and sickly-looking creatures (Warhammer, Zombicide, etc.)
  • Diorama figures featuring fallen or infected characters
  • Base colour or shadow tone on cool-toned human skin for fantasy miniatures
  • Putrid or necrotic skin effects on horror and terror scale models
  • Special effects (SFX) makeup on silicone or latex surfaces
  • Cosplay details on EVA foam, resin or plastic pieces with a degraded skin appearance
  • Quick colour sketches and prototypes on 3D-printed models

How to use it

  1. Priming: Apply a coat of white primer before using the Playmarker. This maximises coverage and colour fidelity of Zombie Skin. You can use any of the AK Interactive primer sprays available at Feroca.
  2. Activation: Shake the marker with the cap on for 10–15 seconds. Then press the tip against a test surface until the paint flows evenly.
  3. Application: Paint directly onto the miniature or piece with fluid strokes. The brush-type tip allows both broad areas and fine details. Multiple coats can be applied, letting each one dry before the next, to increase colour intensity.
  4. Blending and transitions: While the paint is still wet, you can blend edges with a slightly dampened brush to achieve smooth transitions between Zombie Skin and other colours.
  5. Drying: Touch-drying is quick (a few minutes under normal conditions). Allow it to cure completely before applying weathering products or varnishes.
  6. Finishing and further effects: Once dry, you can apply washes, pigments, powder or any AK Interactive weathering product without risk of lifting the base coat. If you prefer a matte or gloss finish, apply the corresponding AK Interactive varnish.
  7. Cleaning: Clean the tip with a damp cloth after each session. If the tip becomes saturated with pigment, replace it with a spare one (Playmarker tips are ).

Usage tips

Paint flow control

If the marker releases too much paint when pressed, do not shake it with the tip pointing downwards. Always store it horizontally or tip-up when not in use. If the paint flows with difficulty, gently press the tip several times against paper until the flow regulates itself.

Combine Zombie Skin with layering techniques

The Zombie Skin colour works very well as a base coat over which you can then apply highlights with lighter tones or shadows with dark AK Interactive washes. You can also use it as a thinned glaze over a light base to lower the colour temperature of a skin tone and give it a cadaverous appearance in a single pass.

Frequently asked questions

Can it be used on 3D prints without primer?

Technically yes, but it is not recommended. The Playmarker Zombie Skin adheres to plastic, resin and metal, but without primer coverage is lower and the colour may be affected by the translucency of the material. A coat of white primer ensures that Zombie Skin shows its true tone with greater uniformity.

Is it compatible with weathering products applied afterwards?

Yes. Once dry, the Playmarker Zombie Skin resists the application of washes, pigments, powder and other AK Interactive weathering products without lifting. If you want extra security before applying aggressive techniques, interpose a coat of satin or matte varnish.

Is the finish completely satin or does it depend on the surface?

The finish of the Playmarker Zombie Skin is satin due to the nature of its pigments. The exact level of sheen may vary slightly depending on the surface and the number of coats applied. In any case, you can modify the final finish by applying whichever AK Interactive varnish you prefer: matte, satin or gloss.

Can I refill the marker when the paint runs out?

The Playmarker is not officially designed for refilling, as the acrylic formula is calibrated for the marker's specific operation. When the paint runs out, the most appropriate course of action is to purchase a new Playmarker Zombie Skin. Feroca, as an official AK Interactive distributor in Spain, guarantees continuous product availability.

Is it suitable for painting silicone or latex SFX figures?

The Playmarker Zombie Skin adheres to a wide range of surfaces, including some silicone and painted latex formulations. For SFX on highly flexible materials, it is recommended to carry out a prior test on a non-visible area, as repeated flexing may crack the paint layer. Applying a flexible varnish as a finish improves durability.

How long does it take to dry between coats?

The Playmarker Zombie Skin dries to the touch within a few minutes under normal temperature and humidity conditions. To apply a second coat safely without reactivating the first, wait between 5 and 10 minutes. Full curing, which provides definitive water and touch resistance, occurs at around 24 hours.
