What it is used for
The Pink Skin tone is a rosy flesh colour particularly useful for depicting light skin tones, wounds, fantastical flesh and organic tissue. Its satin finish gives a slightly lively appearance, ideal for simulating the natural texture of skin on scale figures. Here are its main applications:
- Wargame miniatures: quick painting of flesh tones on fantasy, sci-fi or historical figures. Perfect for skin areas on them.
- Scale figure models: base coat or finishing on faces, hands and exposed areas of military or civilian figures.
- Dioramas: colouring of organic elements such as skin, wounds or soft tissue represented in resin or putty.
- Cosplay: direct application on 3D-printed or foam- and resin-modelled parts for realistic skin effects.
- SFX and special effects: representation of fleshy tissue, wounds or flesh tones on artistic character pieces.
- Colour scheme sketching and testing: thanks to its marker format, it allows you to try out the tone quickly before working with conventional paint.
How to use it
- Surface preparation: clean the piece of dust, grease or any release agent residue. For best results, apply a white primer before using the Playmarker Pink Skin.
- Priming the marker: shake the marker well for a few seconds. Gently press the tip on a test surface until the paint flows evenly.
- Application: apply with smooth, controlled strokes directly onto the piece. The paint can be worked in thin layers and, while wet, blended to create transitions and volumetric effects.
- Additional coats: once the first coat is dry, you can apply successive coats to build coverage or progressively construct shadows and highlights.
- Weathering effects: when the paint is completely dry, you can apply washes, pigments or other weathering products without any risk of lifting the base colour.
- Varnishing: if you need a different finish from the original satin, apply a matt, satin or gloss varnish over the dried piece. The paint is fully compatible with any type of varnish.
- Cleaning: as it is water-based acrylic, clean the tip with lukewarm water immediately after use. If the tip deteriorates, you can replace it with a new one.
Usage tips
Control the paint flow
If pressing the tip releases too much paint at once, apply less pressure or first make a few strokes on paper to regulate the flow. An excess of paint in detailed areas can cover up textures. It is better to start with a small amount and build up layers.
Take advantage of the open time to blend
While the paint is still wet, you can use a slightly damp brush to blend the edges of the Pink Skin and create smooth transitions towards other flesh tones or darker shadows. Work quickly, as drying time is fast.
Swap the tip for more precision
The felt tip allows you to adapt to the type of work at hand. If you need greater precision on very small details such as lips or eyelids on small-scale figures, swap the tip for a finer one or complete the work with a conventional brush using the same acrylic paint from the AK Interactive range.
Frequently asked questions
Can this marker be used without a primer?
It is possible to apply the Playmarker Pink Skin directly onto the surface, but AK Interactive recommends using a white primer beforehand to maximise adhesion and colour accuracy. Without a primer, the colour may be less opaque and adhesion on smooth surfaces may be reduced.
Does the paint from these markers withstand continuous handling of miniatures?
Yes. The acrylic formula of the Playmarkers, including the AKM010 Pink Skin, is formulated to resist handling, water and heat once dry. For greater durability, especially on pieces that will be used in wargame sessions, it is recommended to apply a protective varnish coat when painting is complete.
Can the colour be mixed directly from the marker with other tones?
The Playmarker Pink Skin can be mixed while the paint is still wet on the surface, using a brush or even the tip itself. You can also empty part of the marker's contents onto a palette and mix it with other water-based acrylic paints from the AK Interactive range to obtain custom shades.
Can I apply weathering over the paint from an acrylic marker?
Yes, without any problem. Once dry, the paint from the Playmarker Pink Skin accepts the application of washes, filters, pigments and any weathering product from the AK Interactive range without any risk of lifting or damaging the base colour coat.
Is it suitable for 3D-printed surfaces?
Yes. The Playmarker Pink Skin adheres correctly to photopolymer resins and FDM filaments commonly used in 3D printing, as long as the piece is clean and properly primed. It is a very practical option for quickly and precisely colouring cosplay pieces, props or 3D-printed figures.
