Set of 3 scale stamps 3D printed in impact-resistant resin, with ergonomic handle. 3 sizes for gradient textures on prosthetics and sculptures.

The Texture X-Cale Stamp set by TXTOOLZ is a set of 3 scale stamps designed to apply precise microtextures in hard-to-reach areas of your sculptures and prosthetics. 3D printed in impact-resistant resin, they offer three scale sizes to create gradient patterns impossible to replicate with conventional sculpting tools. If you work in special effects makeup, prosthetics or character sculpting, this set saves you hours of manual work with perfectly tileable results and no edge marks on the texture.

What it's used for

The set is designed to apply scale textures with full control over size and distribution. Stamps 001 and 002 allow very fine microtextures, practically inaccessible with standard tools, while stamp 003 generates a coarser organic texture, perfect for reptilian or alien surfaces. Common applications:

  • Fish, reptile, amphibian or fantasy creature prosthetics
  • Special effects (SFX) makeup sculptures
  • Texturing hard-to-reach areas: nose corners, behind ears, folds
  • Character sculptures with degraded or scaly skin
  • Creating alien or fantasy organism skins
  • Working on professional modelling clays like Monster Clay

How to use it

  1. Prepare your sculpture in Monster Clay Medium or in the Gray Medium version, making sure the surface is smoothed and at the appropriate working temperature.
  2. Choose the stamp according to the scale size you need: 001 for the finest, 002 for intermediate size and 003 for the coarser organic texture.
  3. Press the stamp firmly and evenly onto the sculpture surface. The ergonomic handle allows precise control even at difficult angles.
  4. Lift the stamp perpendicularly to avoid dragging the texture. Do not slide it.
  5. Repeat slightly overlapping each impression to achieve a continuous, seamless pattern (tileable).
  6. Work from the most accessible areas to the most difficult: start with flat surfaces and finish with corners, folds and recesses.
  7. If the clay overheats and the texture loses definition, let the piece cool down before continuing.
  8. To clean the stamp between uses, a little 99.9% isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth is all you need.

Usage tips

Clay temperature — the key to results

The texture prints best when the clay is slightly soft on the surface but not sticky. If it's too cold, the impression is shallow; if it's too warm, the texture loses definition. With Monster Clay, work at room temperature (18–22 °C) without applying extra heat before texturing.

Combine all three sizes for an organic result

A common mistake is texturing the entire piece with the same stamp. For convincing results, use the 001 in fine-detail areas (snout tip, eyelids, fingers), the 002 on the general body and the 003 on rougher skin areas (back, elbows, crests). The transition between sizes provides the gradient that makes the character believable.

Stamp maintenance and storage

3D printed resin is durable but can accumulate clay residue in the relief details if not cleaned properly. Use isopropyl alcohol after each session and a soft brush to reach the finest details. Store the stamps away from hard objects that could chip the resin.

Frequently asked questions

What materials does this type of texture stamp work on?

The Texture X-Cale Stamp stamps work primarily on professional modelling clays such as Monster Clay Medium or Monster Clay Gray Medium. They can also be used on uncured polymer clays and other soft sculpting materials. They are not designed for use on already cured or hardened materials.

What is the difference between the three stamps in the set?

Stamp 001 produces the finest scale, ideal for microtextures in areas of extreme detail. Stamp 002 offers an intermediate size for general surfaces. Stamp 003 generates a coarser, more volumetric organic texture, perfect for large reptiles, alien creatures or any surface requiring a rougher, more irregular appearance.

Can it be used in hard-to-reach areas of the sculpture?

Yes, that is precisely one of the key strengths of these stamps. The ergonomic handle and compact size allow you to work on nose corners, behind ears, neck folds or any area where a large roller wouldn't fit. It's the right tool when you need full control over where and how much you texture.

Does the texture stay continuous when the pattern is repeated?

Yes. The Texture X-Cale Stamps are designed to be tileable: they do not generate marks on the lateral edges of the texture, which allows impressions to be overlapped without visible seams. With correct technique (light overlap and even pressure), the scale pattern is continuous and natural.

How do you clean the stamp after use?

The most effective cleaning method is with 99.9% isopropyl alcohol and a soft-bristle brush. This dissolves clay residue without damaging the resin. Avoid metal tools that could scratch or chip the stamp's relief details.

Is it resistant to drops and intensive workshop use?

The resin used in the 3D printing of these stamps is specifically impact-resistant, making it suitable for continuous workshop use. Even so, as with any resin piece, avoid dropping it on very hard surfaces and do not apply extreme bending forces to the finest detail areas.

What type of projects is this set intended for?

The Texture X-Cale Stamp scale set is intended for special effects (SFX) makeup, prosthetics fabrication, creature and character sculpting. Especially useful for fish, reptile, amphibian, alien or any fantasy creature projects requiring scaly skin. It also fits into audiovisual production, video games (concept sculpting) and artistic collectibles.

What clay hardness is most recommended for texturing?

It depends on the level of detail. Harder clays, such as Monster Clay Medium, retain fine texture better once impressed. Softer clays are easier to texture but may deform when the stamp is removed. For stamps 001 and 002, a medium hardness offers the best balance between ease of stamping and definition of the result.
