Alumaluster 8oz (236ml): polished aluminium chrome paint for airbrush or spray gun. Superior reflective finish, high adhesion, no mandatory sealing coat required.
Alumaluster is a chrome painting system that lets you achieve a polished aluminium mirror-effect finish directly from a standard spray gun or airbrush. Its resin-based formulation with high-load metallic pigments gives you superior coverage and adhesion compared to other chrome paints on the market, with the added advantage that on many surfaces no final sealing coat is required.
Alumaluster is designed for any application where you need a high-impact chrome or metallic finish without resorting to electrochemical processes or electroplating. It is commonly used in:
Special effects and props for film, theatre and television (helmets, armour, props)
Cosplay and costume making with metallic finish
Vehicle, motorcycle and helmet customisation
Scale models, figures and miniatures with chrome finish
Decorating resin-moulded or EVA foam pieces
Sculpture and fine art finishing
Architectural and display applications
How to use it
Prepare the surface: clean the piece thoroughly and make sure it is free of dust, grease and moisture.
Apply a gloss black base coat: for maximum mirror effect, paint the piece with gloss black or use a compatible black resin directly. This step is critical for the final result.
Shake the product well: mix thoroughly before loading the spray gun or airbrush.
Set up your equipment: adjust the pressure and flow rate according to the type of gun. Start with low pressure and increase until you find the ideal spray pattern.
Apply in thin coats: apply several light passes, allowing each coat to flash off slightly before the next. Do not try to cover in a single pass.
Assess whether sealing is needed: on many surfaces and in many contexts the finish requires no additional protection. If the piece will be handled intensively or exposed to moisture, apply a coat of Imperiflex 640 flexible lacquer to protect it without losing the metallic effect.
Clean your equipment immediately after use with the appropriate solvent for resin-based paints.
Professional use. Alumaluster contains solvents and resins. Always work in a well-ventilated area or with local exhaust ventilation. Use a respirator with organic vapour filters, safety goggles and solvent-resistant gloves. Consult the SAFETY DATA SHEET before handling.
Usage tips
The black base coat is essential
The quality of the chrome finish depends directly on the base coat. A matt black will give a metallic grey finish; a gloss black that has been well sanded will give the maximum mirror effect. Take the time to prepare this base properly — it accounts for 80% of the final result.
Fine spray and light coats
Alumaluster works best when applied in thin, even passes. If you apply too much product at once, the finish loses reflectivity and can pool. The key is several light coats with a flash-off time between them (1–2 minutes at room temperature).
Protect the finish if the piece will be handled
Although Alumaluster holds up well without sealing on decorative pieces, on pieces that will be touched, used in cosplay or exposed to the elements, protect the finish with Imperiflex 640, a flexible lacquer that does not yellow or destroy the metallic effect. Avoid conventional lacquers with aggressive solvent bases that can attack the paint.
Frequently asked questions
Can it be applied with an airbrush or only with a spray gun?
Alumaluster is formulated for use with both an airbrush and a standard spray gun. With an airbrush you get greater control for small or detailed pieces; with an HVLP or conventional gun it is more efficient for large surfaces. Adjust the pressure and flow rate to suit your equipment.
Is a sealing coat necessary?
Not always. On decorative or display pieces the Alumaluster finish can be left without additional protection. However, if the piece will be subject to abrasion, moisture contact or frequent handling, sealing with Imperiflex 640 is recommended to protect the chrome effect without altering it.
What materials can it be applied to?
Alumaluster adheres well to resins, plastics, EVA foam, fibreglass, wood and previously prepared metals. The key requirement is that the surface is clean, dry and coated with a gloss black base coat. On porous surfaces, a sealing primer should be applied first.
What black base coat is recommended?
Any good-quality gloss black paint works as a base coat. If you are moulding the piece in resin, you can use a black resin directly so the substrate comes out of the mould already in that base colour. The glossier and smoother the base coat, the greater the mirror effect of the final chrome finish.
How much coverage does the 8 oz (236 ml) bottle provide?
Coverage depends on the type of equipment, working pressure and number of coats applied. For medium-sized pieces (such as a cosplay helmet) the 8 oz bottle is usually sufficient for full coverage in 2–3 coats. For larger projects, consider the 16 oz or 32 oz sizes.
Can it be mixed with other pigments to obtain different metallic tones?
Alumaluster is specifically formulated for the chrome/polished aluminium finish. Mixing it with external pigments is not recommended as it may alter the reflectivity and adhesion of the product. If you need different metallic tones (gold, copper, etc.), contact Feroca for available options.
Is it suitable for outdoor and weathering conditions?
On its own, Alumaluster is not designed as a long-term outdoor finish. For outdoor use or in humid conditions, it is essential to protect it with a coat of Imperiflex 640 protective lacquer, which provides weather resistance while maintaining the metallic effect.
How do you clean the spray equipment after use?
Clean the airbrush or spray gun immediately with the appropriate solvent for resin-based paints (a cleaning solvent compatible with solvent-based systems). Do not let the product dry inside the equipment as it can permanently clog the passages. Spray solvent through until it runs completely clean.
