What it is used for
The Clotted Wound Filler is designed to create hyperrealistic clotted blood effects. Its dense texture and glossy finish make it ideal for applications where you need to simulate dried or clotting blood, not fresh flowing blood.
- Filling wounds and cuts in silicone or latex prosthetics
- Battle scenes, massacres and violence in film and television productions
- Special effects in theatre, opera and live performances
- Dark fashion photography, editorial and advertising
- Halloween makeup and horror cosplay
- Documentaries and historical reenactments
- Music video shoots and independent audiovisual projects
How to use it
- Prepare the application area: make sure the skin, prosthetic or surface is clean and dry.
- Apply the Clotted Wound Filler directly with a spatula, brush or finger, depositing it into the cavity or wound you want to fill.
- Shape the amount needed to achieve the desired volume and form. The product is dense enough to stay in place without running.
- Leave to air dry. During drying the product develops its characteristic glossy clotted blood texture.
- If you need fresh blood around the wound, combine it with Fleet Street Drying Blood Fresh for a more complex and realistic effect.
- To remove from skin, wash with soapy water. For fabrics, machine wash at 40 °C with conventional detergent.
Usage tips
Layers and textures
Do not apply the full amount all at once. Work in thin layers, allowing each one to partially dry before applying the next, to build depth and achieve a more three-dimensional effect. Mix the Clotted Wound Filler with a little Pasta Fleet Street Blood if you want a transition between dried and fresher blood at the same point of the wound.
Combining with more fluid blood
For scenes where the wound shows different stages, use the Clotted Wound Filler on the interior and edges of the wound (the older, clotted area) and add Fleet Street Drying Blood Dark at the extremities to simulate darker, dried blood that has run. The combination of both textures and tones makes the effect far more believable on camera.
Storage and preservation
Close the container tightly after each use to prevent the product from drying out prematurely. Store at room temperature, away from heat sources. If you notice it has thickened too much, add a few drops of water and mix well. Do not freeze. Once opened, use within a reasonable timeframe to ensure best performance.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to apply directly on skin?
Yes. The Clotted Wound Filler by CLINK ST FX is formulated with water-based ingredients and food colourings, making it suitable for application on healthy skin. Even so, if you have sensitive skin, perform a patch test on a small area before using it on larger areas.
Does it permanently stain clothing?
On most fabrics it does not stain permanently. To remove the product from clothing, machine wash at 40 °C with conventional detergent as soon as possible. Act quickly: the longer the product remains on the fabric, the harder it may be to remove completely.
What is the difference between this product and regular liquid blood?
The Clotted Wound Filler has a much denser and more viscous texture that simulates blood in the process of clotting or already clotted. It does not flow or spread on its own, making it ideal for filling cavities and wounds. Fluid bloods such as Fleet Street Drying Blood Fresh are formulated to run and simulate active, fresh blood.
Can it be used on silicone or latex prosthetics?
Yes. The Clotted Wound Filler adheres well to silicone and latex prosthetics without damaging them. It is especially useful for filling the interior cavities of sculpted wounds in prosthetics, adding depth and realism.
How long does the effect last once applied?
The effect remains stable throughout an entire shooting session or performance. As it is a water-based product, it may soften with heavy sweating or extreme humidity. If working in high heat or physically demanding conditions, check the makeup between takes and touch up as needed.
Can I mix it with other special effects products?
Yes. It combines perfectly with other water-based bloods and pastes in the range, such as Pasta Fleet Street Blood or Fleet Street Drying Blood Dark. Avoid mixing it with oil-based or alcohol-based products, as these can alter its texture and behaviour.
How much do I need for a battle or massacre scene?
The 60 g container is sufficient to detail several wounds on a single character or for touch-ups during a shoot. For productions with multiple actors or extensive scenes, plan for several containers. As it is a product applied in concentrated amounts to specific points, yield is good.
Is it suitable for use in the mouth or on mucous membranes?
Although the ingredients are of food-grade origin, this product is not specifically certified for intraoral use. Avoid deliberate ingestion and do not apply inside the mouth, eyes or nose. For mouth effects, consult products specifically indicated for that purpose.
