What it is used for

Telesis Top Guard is used as a preparatory step before applying prosthetics and adhesive pieces in special effects makeup and theatrical or film character work. Its main function is to prepare the skin to maximise adhesion and protect it from prolonged contact with adhesives and prosthetics.

  • Skin preparation before bonding silicone prosthetics
  • Protective primer prior to applying latex prosthetics
  • Reduction of irritation caused by contact adhesives
  • Improved adhesion in areas prone to sweating (forehead, neck, décolletage)
  • Long-duration theatrical and film character makeup
  • SFX makeup protocols on extended shooting days

How to use it

  1. Clean and thoroughly dry the skin area where the prosthetic will be applied. The skin must be free of grease, dirt, and residue from other products.
  2. Shake the Telesis Top Guard bottle gently before use.
  3. Apply a thin, even layer of Top Guard over the contact area using a clean sponge or brush.
  4. Allow to dry completely until the layer becomes transparent and non-tacky (approximately 1–2 minutes).
  5. Then apply your chosen prosthetic adhesive (e.g., Telesis Brisk) to the prepared skin and to the back of the prosthetic.
  6. Place the prosthetic in position and press gently to ensure full contact.
  7. When finished, remove the prosthetic with a suitable remover and clean the skin properly.
Warning: Telesis Top Guard is a topical product formulated for application on healthy skin. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Always perform a skin tolerance patch test on a small area before first use, especially on sensitive skin or with a history of allergy to acrylates. In case of irritation, discontinue use and consult a specialist. Do not ingest. Keep out of reach of children.

Usage tips

Skin preparation: the step that makes all the difference

The adhesion of any prosthetic depends largely on prior surface preparation. Skin cleaned and degreased with Top Guard ensures that the adhesive penetrates evenly and that the prosthetic holds throughout the entire day, even under studio lighting or outdoors.

Allow to dry completely before applying the adhesive

A common mistake is applying the adhesive before the Top Guard layer has dried completely. If the primer is still wet, it interferes with the adhesive and reduces bonding strength. Wait until the layer is fully transparent and leaves no residue to the touch before moving on to the next step.

Compatibility with different adhesives and finishes

Telesis Top Guard is compatible with the main prosthetic adhesives and fixation systems in the Feroca catalogue. For long shooting days or in high-humidity conditions, combine it with DRY topical spray to control excess perspiration during filming or performance.

Frequently asked questions

What does this type of product do before bonding a prosthetic?

It acts as a protective barrier between the skin and the adhesive, reducing irritation and improving adhesion. Telesis Top Guard creates a methacrylate base layer that prepares the skin surface so the adhesive grips evenly and lasts longer, especially in areas prone to perspiration.

Is it always necessary or only in specific cases?

It is not essential in every situation, but it is highly recommended for long shooting days, on combination or oily skin, and in areas of the face or body where perspiration may compromise adhesion. On sensitive skin, it also acts as an intermediate layer that reduces direct contact with the adhesive.

Is it compatible with silicone and latex prosthetics?

Yes. Telesis Top Guard is formulated for use prior to applying both silicone and latex prosthetics, the two most common materials in SFX makeup and professional character work.

How long does it take to dry before applying the adhesive?

Under normal room temperature conditions, the Telesis Top Guard layer dries in approximately 1 to 2 minutes. You should wait until the film is completely transparent and leaves no residue to the touch before applying the adhesive.

Can it be used on sensitive skin?

The water-based formula of Telesis Top Guard is designed to minimise irritation. However, on skin with known sensitivity to acrylates or a history of reactions to makeup adhesives, it is recommended to perform a tolerance patch test on a small area at least 24 hours before full use.

How is this product correctly removed from the skin?

Telesis Top Guard is easily removed with water and mild soap once the session is complete. If a prosthetic adhesive has been applied over it, first remove the prosthetic and adhesive with the appropriate remover before cleaning the primer off.

What is the difference between this product and a perspiration-control drying spray?

Telesis Top Guard is a preparatory primer applied before the adhesive to improve bonding and protect the skin. A drying spray such as DRY topical spray is used during the session to control active perspiration. They are complementary products that can be used together on demanding shooting days.

How many uses does a 60 ml bottle provide?

Yield depends on the application area and the number of layers. For typical facial applications (forehead, temples, nose, chin), a 60 ml bottle provides a generous number of sessions, as it is applied in a thin layer. A full facial application uses a very small amount of product.
